I don’t wish anything negative for Valieva or any other skater, all of whom work so hard to get where they are. But if it is Valieva who is involved in this, and it turns out that she is not able to compete, I must confess that I would be delighted to see the First Alternate, Ms Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, have the chance at the Olympics she so richly deserves.

Not possible as Valieva already did the team event.

I'm afraid that don't be possible either way. Valieva conpeteted in TE si can't bw replaced even with possible DS and she might not have time to fly to China anyway.

1. why is the IOC just getting test results taken back in Dec? Would they not have these tests from the beginning or just before beginning of the Olympics?

2. Would this take her out of the individual event?

Boys and girls. Maybe you would have reduced the intensity of hysteria and waited for the official results?

This forum dedicated to figure skating - it is assumed that there are not random people here, but figure skating fans. If you are a figure skating fan and are adequate, you understand that Valieva did not need doping. Consequently, a reasonable, adequate fan will patiently wait for official explanation of this strange situation.
The rumors/speculation will continue, here or elsewhere, until an official statement is made. They need to do that sooner rather than later.

Ahh, here come the excuses. This is a +1 for the people that want the age limit raised, unless they have a mental illness a 15 year old should have a shred of brains to understand what they are putting in their bodies. And if they don't, well they are about to get a tough lesson
I don't disagree that if you are old enough to compete, you should be aware of what's going in your body, but if you are 15 and have been living sheltered in your training camp for 5-10 years and believe your coaching team has your best interest at heart so you are at your peak, you really may not know better. Having been around this sport for a long time, the really great talents tend to be socially awkward and behind because all they really do is skate/off ice MAYBE school.

I was really hoping it wasn't Valieva of all people...

IOC and ISU really need to release an official statement on this mess ASAP.
Sad if it is Valieva, but honestly, how fair is this for Liza and other older athletes who don't have the same stamina to do all the things that Valieva does in a program? Even Valieva's teammates don't do all of these transitions before their quad jumps. I look at Valieva and she is always breathing really heavily after these programs. It's clear that her content is very demanding. Whether she knows it or not, and I highly doubt a 15 year old will decide to dope intentionally, she benefits from the drugs. Obviously this will be even more consequences for Eteri and the adults involved in this than Valieva.

Since it´s Kami and she was in the TE I don´t think they are allowed to bring in the alternate :(:(:(

I doubt they will be allowed sub under the circumstances. It will likely have negative reciprocation for all Russian skaters.

Even if she's innocent, which I pervefly believe she is, I don't see a happy ending for her after what she's going through now.
Well, she is known as a rock. Her skill is so consistent. Seems she can do quads in her sleep. She could be just fine.

Crazy idea: could the conflicting reports be due to the fact there are two separate incidents?!
Not crazy. This is very possible, but anything to do with Valieva will overshadow anything else.

Inside the Games usually has a pipeline into the IOC, so even unverified reports from them should be considered seriously.

If trimetazidine or similar is the agent involved, Valieva has a real problem here. This would be considered performance enhancing in somebody without a diagnosed heart problem like angina. Angina patients aren't going to be doing quads and triple axels. By extension, her training situation and environment, and Rus Skating Fed will also fall under suspicion. If Valieva took the med in December, and the revealing test took place in late Dec or January, then it strains belief that her coaching team and Fed didn't know before sending her to Beijing.
What a mess.

If the Russian federation knew about the problem with a probe taken back in December and still put Kamila in the team event twice, this is a monumental blunder on their part.

Yes, why did they not leave her out of the Team event under the guise of saving her for the individual?

A skater as talented as Valieva will be forever tainted with this now… she won’t be remembered as much for her talent but for the scandal. I hope whoever had her take this gets a karma retribution. Can this impact Anna/Sasha competing? Can they be banned too? 😢

Oh dear, this is disappointing and worrisome and sad in all kinds of ways. Worst of all, it will cast a huge pall over the figure skating events. I don't know what to say or feel - I can't begin to fathom how all the skaters feel when they are all preparing for the biggest moments of their careers, cause this kind of news and inevitable media storm could affect everyone's mindset.

Yes, there are tests taking place outside the competitions. Athletes receive announcements when they should be available for controls.

And athletes in sports where there have historically been higher levels of doping tend to have higher levels of random testing. Figure skating is seen as 'low risk' so generally does fewer random out of competition tests. USADA actually lets you search and see the names and number of tests for athletes in their anti-doping pool. So you can learn that Nathan Chen was tested by USADA 3 times in 2021 but Kathleen Ledecky in the 'high risk' spot of swimming was tested 10 times with both of them being considered to be the best in the world in their sport.
