Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Shabotova didn't just say every Russian athlete is doping--she specifically referred to the Eteri girls at Sambo 70 needing to dope to get that good. And it's not partly why she's skating for UKR now, it's the reason. Sad how her Russian career was destroyed for speaking the truth (verified and undeniable at this point) about the Eteri school. Shame on RusFed.
Ah yes, i had forgot that.
She isn't the only one. Gubanova was less blunt but she kind off assumed that Zagitova's progress was due to doping. She said something like "girl was behind us (top girls) all the season, then after summer, she's surprinsingly able to jump all her triples consistently and beat everyone." In a tone that makes think that this fast improvement wasn't normal. I took that as a little bit of jealousy as she also said that if she was born in the first part of year like Zagitova she could have gone to olys and done well too.
This is returning like a boomerang. She was joking "they are doping with chocolate", but people keep repeating it like she made a serious statement. So no, she did not say "everyone is doping."
The Shabotova case was a 13 year old girl who was doing an instagram q&a with a lot of leading questions. She didn't know what she was talking about. It made an uproar for sure, and yes, it probably destroyed her career within Russia. The whole case was dismissed as nonsense from a naive 13 year old.

The power of social media blew this up to enormous proportions, and still today when people are mentioning Shabotova they associate her name with a drug case that never existed. Which is exactly what happened right here.

Social media speculations almost always become truths.
Ah. Well, yes social media is indeed the best thing to use to blow up something.

Once if I'm not mistaken, at 2020-21 japan nationals.
Oh, well quads at Nationals don't really count for much. It's Nationals and the scoring/tech calling is generous. If Rika were trying some difficult jump that nobody had done at Nationals before, and stayed on her feet, that doesn't mean it would be ratified internationally.

Although it might get certified! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

You're enjoying this a bit too much.
I'm not enjoying anything of this.

It's humiliating a teenage girl.

It's calling into question a coaching camp that arguably is mostly successful due to hard work.

It's potentially screwing Canada out of a medal and US out of a gold.

Don't get me wrong - I love drama, but this isn't good for figure skating.

I don't even enjoy the fact that Russia is being scrutinized for doping because we all know they'll turn a blind eye, no matter the results, and not actually enact any necessary or significant change.

No. I don't enjoy that.

I don't care about countries or allegiance... I just care that the results are fair. When it comes to scoring, I hope they are fair and equal playing field. But when it comes to doping I definitely hope it's an even playing field where doping doesn't come into play.

Considering the shipping delays I bet it wouldn't be delivered before the easter. But a glass of beer (or two) can solve that 🍺
Not in 1968

HANS-GUNNAR LILJENWALL (1968)

Doping control began at the Mexico City Olympics, and Liljenwall's problem sounds quaint compared to modern violations. The modern pentathlete from Sweden lost a bronze medal for alcohol after drinking beer to calm his nerves before the shooting competition.

Oh dear...the story has made our news here in Australia. :(

They were at least polite enough not to mention Kamila's name although they showed a photo so I'm not sure how that works.

But yeah they didn't sensationalise it or anything although it's the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation - our national channel) and they usual steer clear of that stuff.

Still depressing though.

Because Eteri secretly hates the Russian national anthem and she is trying to make sure it's never played at the Olympics again. Lol
And instead, they play Tchaikowsky 1st piano concerto, one of the most iconic piece of Russian music.

OK, words from Eteri:

I bet there will be precise translation soon, but preliminary summary based on my little abilities: do not expect any sensation from it, it's a general summary of the situation.

"A very contradictory and complicated situation has arisen. Very many questions and very few answers. I want to say that I am absolutely sure that Kamila is innocent and pure. This is not a theorem for us, but an axiom; it doesn't need to be proven. I understand that there is some kind of protocol of action that we can't do without. We have by no means abandoned the athlete, we are with our athletes in both trouble and joy to the end.

It is very unclear why an athlete with a dubious doping test on December 25 was allowed to participate in the Olympics. Either it is a fatal coincidence, or it is a very clever plan - well, I do not know, or both. I really hope that our leaders will not abandon us, defend our rights and prove our innocence.

Now our whole team is frozen in anticipation of decisions regarding Kamila Valiyeva. We are afraid of any statements, so as not to violate, not to harm. I do not know who decides what, but I hope that justice will be done".

Somehow I still don´t think here is doping involved... As far as I have understood she gave a negative result just before this positive one and also later a negative result. And if it gets proven that she is innocent I will feel very sorry for her as this time must have been awful for her and surely will affect her skating at the competition :(.

Thank you for the translation.

Drugs are often not detectable depending on the timeline and the amount taken. It takes only one positive test for a doping sanction.

For me, that's the "there was only one positive test" ... ermm... that just shows how doctors are usually smarter than WADA.
If the attitude is "there are only those who were catched and those who weren't catched yet" then I'm afraid there is nothing to talk about.

I am not conducting a witch hunt. All I am saying comes from watching documentaries about doping in which WADA explains how behind they are always : there are new drugs, new dosage, new ways to cheat testing etc... and though they are always researching to get ahead, as soon as they make headways, the people who cheat find new ways to cheat. So you will forgive me if I make this comment. One positive test is one too many.

Well, I fully agree with Eteri in that I am absolutely sure that Kamila is "pure and innocent" and that it's a very unfortunate coincidence that a doping test from 2 months ago was only analyzed now. But I sure do hope just like her that now "justice will be done" for those who have done this to her...*cough*
