Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

I'm not a Russian, actually my country UK has many problems with them. Sorry but this is the only fair decision. People cannot see it in their anger. Just talking about the provisional suspension the sample analysis was done way too late. A full case between the 8th and 14th is impossible to contest. So they took away her chances to defend herself and compete in the Olympics. On the provisional suspension to me being a minor is only a secondary reason.

Procedural issues cause these types of results all the time. Valieva deserves to compete as it stands and I'm happy the 25th skater will too.
I don't think it's anger. More like frustration at the frequency and the leeway that is being allowed when someone tests positive.

And more than anything, perhaps fear, because this might just be the Pandora's box to diminish any credibility that these sporting events have got left.

Firstly, speak for yourself.

Secondly, there are studies about it dating years before all this mess.
Once again you are not a scientist (some are doubting the effect).
You can believe whatever you want.

But CAS just told us that Protected Persons do not carry responsibility for being not clean, so they hardly can be responsible for the inverse either.

Anyway, I feel that responsibility squarely lies with Tutberidze and what she had been doing with her students (and, by extension, other athletes) has to bear consequences. The principle of natural justice applies. It gotta apply...
Let's hope they find enough evidence to take action against TT.

I decided not to write down my opinions in this special case, because I really don't have clear ones. I have just overall thoughts that age limit should be equal to all disciplines at all sports and not too young children to seniors, or some sports 16 and some physically most demanding 18. Some people say national heros would not have won if their is the age limit- well it was then and now is now. I don't much care who wins but I have always been more fan of older skaters than children. Of course I like some skaters more than others and am a little bit patriotic, because it is human. It is not I would like to somebody else from some other country to win, because teenagers can come and win when they are a little bit older, I cannot see anything what would prevent it if they just keep them fit. Rules should be equal to all competitors, in the name of fairness, whatever rules, including everything.

Also things like this can happen. Kaisa Mäkäräinen from Finland won world cup in biathlon 2013/2014. She lost that won last year because somebody else's doping cart and cancellation of results. Kaisa did not loose points, but Tora Bergen from Norway got more points and won. I told this just to you know things can happen many years later.

According french media, the medicine is used to treat angine and it’s not proved it increases performance like steroide.
Someone was suspended 4 years for taking a medicine which couldn’t make a snail advance.
No matter what TMZ is used for, it’s a banned drug in sports. Even if it’s only used for an ingrown toenail, it’s still a banned drug. These are the rules, we may not understand why, they are still banned.

It's on the banned list, believe that.

What else is there to figure out?
And it can also be lift, the same with Nurofen who was banished but allowed later.

In kami’s case, maybe she took a medicine or substance who is mistaken for Trimetazidine.
Anyway, I don’t want to throw stones without knowing the other side of the story.

This decision is disgraceful. It is fine to cheat and abuse children?

It is bad enough that in Russia there are cheaters who pervert and make a game of figure skating, but now the regulatory bodies and governing organizations that should stop this madness prove to be too corrupt and politicized to do ANYTHING. What about the talented Japanese ladies (who do 3A and backloaded jumps), what about Loena H (a beautiful well rounded skater) all of whom engaged in fair sport and could be deserving of Olympic medals in their own right if they skate well enough, who will all be overshadowed and relegated to automatic 4th place or lower by girls who have been given drug regimens for years to keep them in pre-pubescent bodies and be able to train at unreal levels. Girls who we know won't last long after this Olympics but will be replaced by the next in line and we will look the other way and act like the child abuse is fine and then at the next Olympics it will be the same story.

I am so sick of corruption and politics ruining my enjoyment of figure skating competition and tarnishing its reputation. I don't even want to watch the ladies event tomorrow because it is not exciting when you know all the athletes will most likely be competing for 4th place.

famous lip balm story. my favoirte.

You know what really yanks my chain about this situation? (Anger is NOT directed at Kamila, btw)

That the other skaters/teams have now been or will be denied their medal ceremonies because the Russians can't abide by the rules. Even if the ROC team keeps the gold, the US and Japanese teams will never get that medal ceremony moment back. If by some fluke the ROC girls don't take all 3 podium spots, as long as Kamila is on that podium, if a non-ROC skater joins her, they'll be denied their medal ceremony moment too.

These people work their whole lives to have that moment, and the Russians' inability to compete without breaking the rules just depresses me. If the Russians get off with yet another limp, damp Kleenex slap on the wrist, I'm done.

And yeah, that lab who delayed reporting the test results should hang their heads in shame.

Let's hope they find enough evidence to take action against TT.
My prediction: The team doctor Philipp Shvetsky will be used as a scapegoat. He himself will even admit publicly that he made a big mistake with the athlete. Then he will be formally fired, but really rehired somewhere at least equally nice (probably outside sports this time, because he will get a ban).

Then a new doctor will be hired and everything will continue like normal.

Not that I will believe them of course

Anything could be lifted but why would it be? there's no indication of that happening at all.
the only other medication that she could've taken that has the ability to create false TMZ
in testing she didn't take, and if she did, she didn't report it so she would still not be on the right.

Okay, I've read the entire thread.

Vulgar national bias, lynch trial - accusing Kamila and Eteri-team of all sins without any investigation, complete disregard for common sense, formalistic-bureaucratic thinking and at the same time hypocritical lamentations about "poor clean athletes". I hoped that at least in a specialized forum I would get away from such primitive reactions. Well, I was wrong - nothing new.

But what happened today gave a drop of hope. I sincerely didn't expect it. THIS what it was new.
It's been a disgusting reaction towards this girl for several days and you outlined it in your post perfectly so I won't repeat it. You would think the 15 year old super talent was some kind of violent criminal or something.

Except if all these people who are disgusted with KV skating because she finally had some legal representation if they ever got into a legal problem do you think they would want some legal representation for themselves? Of course they would. But not for a 15 year old who was convicted on social media before having a chance for her team to present anything in her defense to Cas?

And for Johnny and Tara of NBC sports who are so upset about KV skating they should learn the IOC rule book. this 15 year old girl is of minor age she is not subject to the discipline such as suspension or stripped of a medal that adult athletes that test positive are. Those are their rules and the IOC must abide by them. Now if KV was already 16 when when the sample was given on December 25th 2021 we have a different story and she would be treated as an adult athlete that failed a doping test.

This situation was created by the slow work or of the Stockholm lab and because Rusada did not follow up on it and a timely matter.
If the positive test came back by early or mid January KV would not have going to Europeans and probably the Olympics and Liza would have.

I don't know what to expect in the ladies event. A lot of the ladies not just the Russians have been there a long time and it probably worn out and want to go home. I can't imagine how angry sasha and Anna are being in Beijing for so long and not even getting in the team event.

I also didn't think we should raise the age limit to 18 or whatever, if you look at someone like Alysa Liu I think its fine for her to be here, but now I suppose that we should raise the age limit to prevent incentivizing child abuse in Russia.
