2021–22 Canadian Figure Skating

I do, too, otherwise we'll go down to 2 spots for ice dance. This is our strongest discipline, yet it didn't feel that way tonight. Yet another issue to add to my growing list of worries since these cursed Olympics began...

i am thinking some teams may not go to worlds... we will see

This is very worrying...we might go down to one pair and one men's spot and a year where we won't even have 3 spots in ice dance which is Canada's BREAD AND BUTTER...the only discipline we could make inroads in is ladies (which is shocking)...

I said the EXACT same thing to my mother (who's a casual viewer of the sport) after the free dance was over, explaining to her that we might lose 1 spot for 3 disciplines. Canadian figure skating is in deep trouble.

It was be even more disastrous if some of the older top skaters don't even bother going to Worlds such as MTM...or even Keegan and G/P (I'm pretty positive Schizas will be going considering she is only at the beginning of her career)... I'll be especially surprised of James and Radford somehow show up...

look guys, about spots... i hope we keep what we have... but then again.. if we lose some because our athletes do not perform properly, then the athletes do not deserve more spots... for a while we had only one woman, and clearly, we didn't need any more than that... then we had 3 and clearly, until Alaine had troubles, we used them well. If Piper and Paul don't go to worlds and we lose a spot, then FSB and LALA can compete next year with the other teams and the best two will go to worlds...it's all good the only place i would be worried is Men... we need our very talented but inexperienced young men to gain experience. Pairs? it will be very hard to lose spots there... our teams just need to make the free skate... yeah i know... it's not guaranteed...

IMO G/P did themselves in with their pumpkin costumes and quirky RD, followed by a lackluster FD to horrible music.

I think the RD was fine, but the costumes really threw it off. I know they’re supposed to be Elton inspired but they don’t match the Elton songs they were skating to. When I first saw them in the orange jump suits before knowing their music I was expecting something really energetic, but they skate to the slow blues part and it just didn’t fit. I thought they looked great in the dark blue costumes for the FD so I don’t think they needed to be changed to pink. Unfortunately they just seemed overshadowed by the other skater’s programs.

the only thing we know is that Skate Canada has assigned them to do it. They haven't said anything yet as far as I know... I hope they do because finishing like this is not good... that was their worst competition in a long time... a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes

yes but charlie was burned out ... there was no way he could compete anymore. He was just exhausted mentally and physically... he did what was right for him... too bad it didn't work out but i wouldn't say it was a break-up... charlie was just ready to retire...

Based on what? Lubov had great lift positions. That's about it. Her jump landing % was abysmal.

yeah... it does now look like Skate Canada had some good reasons not to honour his 2020's win... do I recall properly that he was sent to 4cc and under delivered?

And we get back to the beginning : Skate Canada needs to nurture the talent better. They need to send them to more events !

To be fair it’s been very hard to send anyone to any events due to Covid. I think Keegan was the only skater to get to compete internationally in 2020.

Huh? I didn’t say I was excited or happy about it. I was just pointing out the possibility. This is a Canadian discussion group and that decision impacts the Canadian team, so it’s valid news.


Anyways, looks like Keegan has confirmed he will continue!

Surely Keegan would want to go to keep as many places for the team as possible…he’s such a team guy
