Senior Men Short

Jeff really was that much better. He wasn't skating so much as he was floating out there.

Tomorrow night's FS is going to be fun!!!

I have to agree Jeff deserves to be on top right now. As great as Patrick skated, Jeff was really in a class by himself, and his choreography and maturity put him over the top.

During the CBC main network broadcast, Kurt Browning said Jeff's program felt more like a skating exhibition than an SP and Jeff skated as though no one else was in the building. IMO, that's probably the highest complement you can give to a skater performing a clean SP with required elements.

But a clean SP and second place for Patrick against this type of field is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, either!

I can't wait for the long programs...and I'm very glad I'm not a judge at this event right now!

Great competiton. Chan moves with such maturity! World class performance for Buttle.

They have only two spots at Worlds, but if Buttle and Chan make the 2008 team they will have a great chance to win three spots for 2009.

Thanks for the reports. Sounds like Buttle rocked the house. Chan showed that he has the mettle to be a champion. FS should be very exciting.

Yeah, Jeffrey!! You're back!!!

There is one thing I don't get though...
I saw the protocol and it says 3F+3T+C 9.5-0.5=9.0
What is +C? I've never seen this mark before. Does it mean combination...?
And I'm just wondering why he got -GOE. His jump looked just great to me.

I think +C just means it was a jump combination, as opposed to +SEQ. I've only seen it in Skate Canada's protocols for National competitions, I think.

Yay for Jeff, this was an awsome SP for him. He really proved why he was the champ. One thing that buggs me regarding Chan, though, is his tech score. Yes he has supertior footwork and spins, but his jumps aren't spectacular, and he did have the fall of the 3A. I agree that he should be in 2nd, but i fel that his TES scores should have been closer to thos of Chipeur, who also had a stumble but not a fall, and had amazing explosive jumps and the same combos as Chan, or Mabee, who has pretty good footeork/spins/choreo and nailed the jumps.

Because the judges in Canada are ready to give the title to Chan.

Horrible call... Patrick Chan was terribly overmarked considering a couple of other skaters' performances.

Vaughn Chipeur, relatively speaking, under-marked a bit. I would think Canadian judges would have thought of his performance differently, had he done better in GP series - namely NHK.

I think so too. Vaughn Chipeur's jumps are huge!! I really liked his SP.

Vaughn needs a lot more work in presenting his program, his flow and choreography, and musicality. He won't be able to challenge Jeffrey and Patrick until he improves that area of his skating. To challenge for the top spots in the world, he, along with the other Canadian men, need to be attempting a quad in the SP and in the LP, like Stephane Lambiel, Brian Joubert, and Evan Lysacek do.

First of all, FUMIE_FUMIE, YOU ROCK!
Thank you so much!

Was Jeff's performance that much better than Patrick's, or were the judges determined to give the first to Jeff?

Jeff is poetry in motion. Patrick's skate was good and he is very quick, but as Kurt so aptly put it "Jeff looked as though he was skating an exhibition, he was in the zone." Jeff just floated through it, like a pro. It was beautiful.

Wonderfully put, I could not agree more about Buttle´s sp!!! I have not seen the others, yet.

Glad to see the results. Buttle is back and Chan is holding his own. I have to say I wish Canada had 3 skaters to send to Worlds. I like Chippeur from what I saw in Quebec City last November.

I hope there are some youtubes of this. I'd like to see Andreev, too. Wasn't he supposed to team up with Jennie Kirk? What happened?

He made a huge improvement in his flow, musicality, although you can still see he is just a masculine skater.

Some of Canadian skating followers have seen/heard him doing quads, a rumour goes that they are gigantic like his 3A. See how he progresses.

Got to see Fedor Andreev's SP on the late night CBC broadcast — he looked fantastic. Probably the most beautiful triple axel of the lot. He has everything to be one of the top competitors in the world — though he could use a bit more speed, perhaps, if I'm being picky, probably a function of the fact that he just returned to competition. There's too many great men I'd love to see go to worlds. I hope Andreev at least gets 4 Continents.
