2022 Worlds Pre-Game Chat

Lol in before everyone claiming of breath of fresh air and rejoicing for lack of overscoring , I just need to remind you to look at Mariah score in Beijing. Girlie was scored above Yelim, Leona, and Gubanova with that free skate. She had no 33 jumps and basically struggled to even stay on her feet with lots of shaky jumps and yet her PCS doesnt take a hit (she had much better hallelujah performance before) . This is all just for her to be put in 10th place, imagine what would USFS do to put their girl on 3rd ?

Crazy talk. If USFSA is going to pull some sort of freaky underhanded deal-making shenanigans, I hope they don't waste the effort on Mariah Bell.

Nice girl, but let's be honest. Middling international results, no real competitive future. She's got other things to do, and I wish her well.

Okay, it seems I understood @Arigato correctly and the post I reacted to was about Han Yan, so Sui/Han are safe I guess?
Yes, Surimi you were right. I’ve read Han and thought about Cong Han 😊 he’s always on my mind 😅 and I should refrain from posting after 11 pm, it’s too late for me

I agree. The current Senior Ladies Mariah, Karen and Bradie have all had their time in the sun and done their best. Alysa, Lindsay, and Isabeau are the future for the Ladies and that's where the focus needs to be the minute that Worlds are over.

Suddenly, there is a shift from Karen to Mariah on PCS boost. That's why I feel like Karen's chance for medaling at World is gone. Karen's also got lots of under rotation calls at Olympics this time. Mariah becomes a new favorite for the international judges now.

OMG If you use the olympic results the US in pairs i think would be favoured for gold. Now that is one event where the calibre is or will be low. Sure they caan skate nicely but when you are missing the top 5 teams wow. I wonder why MTM didnt try to win a medal. Unless they are mentally destroyed??? CAn you imagine two american teams on the podium in ladies and pairs and dance and men!!!!

I hope not. I think the Japanese, the South Koreans and, yes even the Europeans, also will have something to say! (or rather: skate).

They will skate, yes. For me, the scoring fairness litmus test will be Grassl, Litvintzev, Ryabova, You and Gubanova. If all of them are scored low, despite skating clean… well, I wouldn’t call scoring improved then.

I'm so excited for the singles! Especially because I hope this event will be drama-free.

If anyone is going to knock Shoma off the podium, my money is on Junhwan, who is having the season of his life, or Vincent, if he delivers like he did at SkAm. Honestly, after all he's been through, he deserves it. I've never been a Vincent fan but that poor boy has been to hell and back over the past few years. I could see Ilia with a top five finish if he skates clean, and sneaking onto the podium only if others have serious mistakes. I think Nathan and Yuma are pretty solidly 1-2 barring a disaster. Yuzu was the only one scoring close to them this season.

For the women, I so badly want Rino or Mai at Worlds, but I also hope Mana can have a redemptive skate. I appreciate that JSF is taking a gamble, but I would have given her either Worlds or Olys, not both. I think the only person who can challenge Kaori for gold based on scores and consistency will be Wakaba, but no matter who wins I will be thrilled. Bronze (and maybe silver?) is a whole other matter. I think Young, Yelim, a 100% clean Mana, Loena, and Alysa will all be challenging for bronze, which will make the event so exciting.
It will be exciting in a different way. I agree all the Japanese ladies, Koreans, Loena, Alysa and heck even Karen or Mariah could medal. But look at pairs - yikes. USA could win gold and silver. Why MTM didn't try I don't know - well I kind of understand but this is the greatest opportunity for teams to medal.

Real tea: Mariah was the better skater this season. Karen had multiple opportunities to deliver at the Olympics and as much as she is the best skater artistically (IMO) of the US women, she just is unable to deliver technically. And even PCS won't save her if she's doing her usual underrotations and other critical errors like her loop. Mariah didn't do a 3-3 but she at least CAN do a 3-3 that is reliably ratified. Alysa should also be out for blood too... she pulled 219 earlier this season, and if she just does what she can do (avoid the 3A and go clean in the SP), she has a shot to medal.

Speaking of shots to medal, I really wish Mai were skating - she really could have pulled off a podium finish. Augh, stupid JSF.

I have just read that the two major Japanese airlines have stopped flying to Europe: https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/japans-jal-ana-cancel-flights-032342025.html
I hope the Japanese skaters can still come using other airlines.
They have cancelled and rerouted flights, not "stopped flying to Europe". You make it sound like all flights for the foreseeable future have been cancelled. That is not the case; they're taking it one day at a time. I expect some more cancellations but also more flights re-routed.

The original article I linked didn't contain any info about rerouting, and certainly not in the headline, otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. It has been edited in the hours after I posted it, as you can see below the article. Which means *I* didn't make the article sound more dramatic than it was, thank you nicely.

I am glad alternative routes can be found, and Japanese skaters can hopefully get to Europe in safety.

MTM have been underperforming all year, at least internationally. And they don't seem happy with one another. Every time one makes a mistake, the other looks daggers. They've been placing behind the US teams and the Japanese team, too, as well as behind James/Radford. I don't see any chance for them to have medaled at Worlds; I think the Olympics was their swan song.
Lots of luck to Walsh/Michaud at Worlds---they're going to need it.

How would that work? Would the judges have to get together to figure out the exact numbers they would need to put her in 10th place? As if that is such an honor.
