2022 Worlds Pre-Game Chat

Unpopular opinion maybe but Green and Parsons should be sent to Worlds this year. They have waited in the wings for four years and keep proving themselves. Wish USFS would give them a chance.

I like them, but if no one withdraws, it wouldn't seem right to kick H/B off the team since they skated well at the Olympics. Hubbell/Donahue will be retired next year so G/P will move up to at least #3, I assume.

Maybe not an unpopular opinion, but they haven't waited four years, at least not together. 2018-19 was their first competitive season together. Of course, both had skated before with siblings.

I'm very excited about their prospects, and their time will come, sooner rather than later.
actually, it was 2019-20 :censored: no doubt they'll have their moment eventually

I wonder if the Russi
We also need to remember that all the Olympic Skaters were training intensely leading up to the Olympics and I think they'll be ready to go for Worlds after a couple of days training.
Huh? Its going to take more than a few days of training to be competitive even for Nathan. But he is so far ahead f the rest. And there is still time for him to pull out. His deciding to compete I guess is none of our business. I am sure he has his reason and that he weighted the pros and cons ie detriment to his marketability if he loses etc. He isn't going to school this year I believe so that makes it a it easier.

One can assume Chock and Bates and or Hubbell and Donohue will retire so Green and Parsons (there is the original GP still competing and hopefully will get a bronze. I understand C and B would not want to retire with a world medal almost certain. H and D also have almost a guaranteed medal too. They said they are going for gold and honestly things are easier with no Russians but the French on home territory won't be beaten. First PC are too strong and second the rest are too prone to errors.

I can't agree with you about training time. The amount of muscle memory that Nathan has developed over the years will serve him well. I'm more worried about how these skaters will handle things mentally. Nathan is on top of the world right now and he waited and trained so hard to make his dreams come true. Getting back in to competition mode in his mind with all the attention he's been getting might not be easy.

Knowing what we know about Nathan, it wouldn't surprise me if the only reason he wanted to go to worlds was to nail that 4T-1E-3F he missed at the olympics, and not trip up on his step sequence like he did at nationals and the olympics.

Until the ISU and OG committees do something about federations, coaches and athletes that cheat, approved by gov't officials believing in Gold or nothing philosophy, this sport is ruined. In the interim. my Congrats to the Canadian Figure Skating Team for achieving OG Bronze medal, fairly and drug free. And to the MANY others that were denied their moment, based on previous Russian practices over the years .

The Team medals were awarded? When did that happen? AFAIK, the US team hasn't received their Team medal yet.

Anyone remember the twitter handle of the group/person who publishes those nice time conversion charts?
UTCs are so clumsy.
Also trying to figure out if Peacock doesnt stream, then NBC USA looks like it is doing a fair amount of coverage.
Seems like if someone wanted to make money they could make a USA app downloadable on Roku and charge money to see it....

Where is Malinin hype? I don't see Malinin hype :scratch2:
For some reason I can't get out of my mind the disney or some kind of cartoon music immature program by his mom against the elegance of Michelle Kwan and Maria Butyrskaya. I think USA is going to dominate, japan will win its firt pairs gold, and while we will miss the competitiveness of the Russians the world will go on - for now.

Hopefully, that will give him reason to come back in the future!

If it were me, I'd never put Butryskaya and elegance in the same sentence. The elegant, neat and tidy, way Malinin lands all his jumps is so much more elegant than MB, who used to basically impale herself on her landing leg, as I recall. And her scratchiness, every stroke.... Just sayin'.
Malinin's jump technique is artistry in action. As is his joy. I can't wait to see him at Worlds.

Some said that technical side of that program was mature indeed :rolleye:
Malinina skated a lovely Free program at 1999 Worlds and finished third overall in the Free. She skated to music from Aladdin and the program was not immature at all (save for the Egyptian arms).

The Women's event there resulted in one of those weird OBO flip flops that allowed a mediocre Julia Soldatova to win Bronze. I don't remember exactly how it played out but Malinina, Gusmeroli, and Soldatova were involved and it was frustrating. 1999 was my first time attending Worlds and I was totally confused by the change in the standings. Btw, imo, Butryskaya had the Free skate of her life and totally deserved the Gold.

Back to Malinina--say what you want about her artistry--which I think was fairly good--that woman could jump. Her skating technique was excellent and it looks like her son has inherited her talent. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in Montpellier!

Well dont fight with Mr.rice. But MB was magical in 1999. Even if Kwan has been on it would not have been an easy win. But ilia is still bit green to say he is king.
