Anna Shcherbakova

It really shouldn't be on someone who has done nothing wrong to course correct relationships. Anna skated, and she skated the best she had done all season. The rest was up to everyone else. I won't comment on what others are doing negatively, except to say I'm grateful to see such outright support from the person who can most closely relate to Anna's experiences - Alina Zagitova:love:! I also have no doubts that Anna will have zero trouble maintaining friendly relations with people who skate with other coaches, such as Kostornaia. Anna has proven to be able to do this with anyone, but it's a two way thing...

This is much worse than the situation in 2018 partly because Anna and Sasha are or were like best friends.

I think the psychological trauma is not with Anya. No matter what's happening around her she stays calm and focused and gets the job done. If she had finished 2nd at the Olympics you would not have heard a peep out of her.

I also think it's terrible the fed did not put Anna or sasha in the team event free skate. I think that's a point of bitterness for the girls.
i know this is Anna's FF but i think this is a big part of Trusova's reaction and anger, this was the cherry on top- in addition to not having any international titles like Anna and Kamila, Anna got gold in the individual, Kami got gold in the team, and Sasha was the only one without a gold.

And Anna or Sasha should have done the frees skate in the team event. I'm sure both Anna and sasha were very angry about that. The federation should have put one of those super girls in the free skate just to spread the wealth around and honor what they have done for Russian figure skating.

Anna was brilliant with the greatest long program ever after Sasha had the most incredible long program ever for the ladies.

Anyone who was emotional or upset after the event should be forgiven. These girls were put through a lot and this was their Olympics. Anna handled everything classy as usual nothing seems to upset her. But she is only human and I'm sure she was angry about being left off the team event because then she would have 2 gold medals.

It's interesting what you're saying but how do you think Anna could help Sasha? Even if they're very good friends (I don't really know how deep their friendship is though), Anna is the person who actually beat her... And I think what even makes it worse for her is the way she was beaten, 'cause I'm sure that after her best ever LP, Sasha was 100% sure that the only person who could beat her was Kamila and definitely NOT Anna... So I don't really see how Anna could help her in this situation... A (sport) psychologist would be a better way of help I think.
Unfortunately, Zhenya Medvedeva, when she said that the Russian mentality is not compatible with a psychologist, was right in many respects. Why do I think that Anna could help Sasha? You know, there is some kind of inner light in Anna. I don't see this to such an extent in any other of them.

I don't know if you've seen the movie "Bridge to Terabithia" - here it shows a girl who is somewhat similar to Anna, who could pull anyone out of such a state. Actually, I used to think that such people can only be in movies or books. But Anna is real, and it's just incredible.

Of course, I don't know how close friends they were. But in any case, they know each other better than anyone else.

I've seen that movie. Good comparison.

And the actress' name is also Anna.. or rather AnnaSophia.. but she's also very special, like our Anna, the movie is so good very much thanks to her.. ;)

Several photos of Anna taken in different years

BTW among other things there is one big resemblance of Anna and Alina's experience. I remember how before the 2019 worlds there were so many voices about "why Alina should not be sent to worlds", sometimes very disrespectful and impudent. And Alina won then, left her opponents in silence. Anna had very similar experience now before the olympics and with the same final result.

I haven't seen this film yet, but I will, thank you for recommending it. :)
I totally agree with you that Anna has some kind of inner light in her and I wish it was able to kind of sweeten Sasha's bitter feelings...

Their common "thing" was the infinite trust in their team and in the plan, that the coaches had set for each of them. They were the only ones to listen and "obey" even when it was difficult and contra-intuitive.

Among other things. And they benefited from it.

There are many similarities, even though I of course acknowledge how different they are too. Some of the things I've thought about are:
  • Only skaters to do 3Lz-3Lo at their competitions, including Olympics
  • Worst jump is 3S
  • Queens of transitions and off ice dancing
  • Both assigned to IdF and CoC in the Oly year, winning both (that CoC became GP Italy is not Anna's fault lol)
  • Both struggled with development in learning their jumps, then had explosive progress in a short period of time
But the primary thing is personality. Even though those are also quite different, they both share maturity beyond their years, compassion and aversion for drama. They are both diplomatic and respectful towards others around them, including their competitors. They both have very down to earth families.

In summary: GS user Fool loves the last two Olympic champions and has random thoughts

I was going to post this earlier (meaning around the Olympics), but somehow forgot as everything else happened. Sharing it now. It's not that insightful perhaps, but I transcribed and translated the Norwegian commentary from Anna's SP at the Olympics.

The Norwegian commentators on Eurosport are:
Lise Røsto Jensen - ISU level judge
Espen Røtterud Runås - I’m sorry, I don’t know this man’s qualifications, but based on the way he speaks, he seems to have very good knowledge of ice dance in particular (could easily deconstruct the patterns, wow lol!) but basic skating too, down to the jumps.

Disclaimer: If the language is awkward it’s because of my translation, not the way they spoke.

Lise: Anna is the third Russian who trains in Sambo-70 in Moscow who we will see tonight. Shcherbakova who is the reigning world champion and current silver medalist from Europeans.
Lise: Dangerous Affairs is the name of the music.
Espen: Playfully easy 2A.
Espen: 3F.
Espen: Flying camel spin.
Espen: 3Lz-3T.
Espen: Comb. spin.
Espen: Incredible step.seq, into layback spin.

[after the skate finishes]
Lise: Anna delivers a very solid SP here. No 3A here in the SP, she does not yet master this element, but otherwise solid elements where she should receive high marks for quality.[Fool’s note: this is how they refer to GoE]
Espen: And she delivered not just the technical elements here, but she is also an amazing figure skater when it comes to the five components. Especially the components for composition and interpretation. [She] has incredible timing to the music throughout this whole program. [There are] many stylish choreographic touches throughout this program which truly highlights the nuances in the music.

[During replays]
Espen: Starts off with 2A, does not master the 3A. And here, the 3F, no problems.
Lise: She also has a difficult exit and the arms over the head.
Espen: She has also landed 4F and 4Lz previously, and is planning this in the Free [program here] too.
Espen: Watch the immersion in the performance. Many interesting moves. She takes advantage of the range of movement she has around her, which enables her to create a lot of variety and she creates good contrast in the movement. She should be rewarded well on the five program component scores.

Anna will be a team captain together with Mark:
