We have different attitudes to skating (team vs. not) and that's OK
. but we both love Toller. I think Corey is a skater who could pull this off.

Why is there no assignment for Maria Pavlova and Balasz Nagy from Hungary when there are quite a few lesser skilled pairs who received an assignment? Are they still together ? They could jump pretty well and have good twist which is more than you can say about a lot of these pairs. They would have been in the mix for a medal. They are the next biggest thing from Hungary and deserved to have an assignment.

Thank you so much for that revelation!!! I had no idea! Corey is my new fave Canadian skater for sure! 'm so intrigued and I'll probably watching with tears in my eyes.
You know what is funny? When I, aged 12 watching Toller in Innsbruck, swore I will never ever support any other skaters in my life than Canadians and here I am being a mega Team Russia fan... I later learned how much Toller admired Russian skaters and Russian culture, I think he wouldn't be cross with me. Corey all the way!!!
You've given me a purpose to watch ISU skating next season, you're a legend el henry!
P.S: Be careful with northern England generalisations, the Northerners are very tribal (and I have enough mates from both sides of the Pennines who never hesitate to letting me know
)

Same. But at the same time, I wish I was living in Sheffield just to take advantage of this. But heigh-ho.
Aha - but Sheffield gets Deniss , Roman and Corey, and Isabeau - so still lots of great skating to enjoy!Was thinking that when scrolling through the assignment list. If only Sheffield could poach the respective men's and ladies' listing. Or if skating was still big in UK as it is in Canada or US.
How many host spots can one country get, if there are not skaters who would get the spot based on ranking? Or does it depend on ranking? I am too lazy to find out myself, because I can ask it here
3 host picks per discipline. If they don't use them, these spots are filled through the "normal" selection procedure: after having guaranteed 2 spots for those who earned them at Worlds and one spot for those in World Standing top 24 and previous Season Best top 24, they pick from previous Season Best top 75 list. To be considered there is a minimum score to have been achieved in previous season: it is equal to 3/5 of highest score per discipline at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships of previous year.
Great debut for Anastasia Vaipan-Law and Luke Digby - especially for Luke, as he's skating in his home town!

I liked Roman before Olympics. I still do, but not in competition sphere. He's bombed too many times. I feel I'd be left disappointed.
Corey, I wasn't familiar with him, but I liked what I saw on youtube right after the assignments were announced.
Love Deniss, but sadly it'd only be him and Grassl in the men I'd be looking for. Same as in ladies with Young and Mai. For 8 mins of each event, not sure how worth it of an event it could be. Although, just realised/remembered Bradie is there too. I guess ladies is very worth the event. Men's though, still on the fence.
But most importantly, I really hope they're not disqualifying athletes based on positive covid test, at least in the UK. Had some in Wimbledon, and it made no sense, since pretty much all restrictions are lifted in the country. If it was in Canada or US where there probably are still restrictions, I could understand.

I agree about Toller and Russia, and I also like to think that Toller would have appreciated what Jason is trying to do.I do not have the disappointment of an entire "team" being unable to compete, but the skater who makes my heart beat fastest will not be in the GP this year. I can't pretend it will be the same. But I will still have skaters to watch and enjoy, and it may be better for my heart, because I won't be soooo invested in how they do.
