LOL....you are probably right. I acutally spend time figuring out how much double sided tape they use. Sometimes I think that a "flash" is right around the corner.
I believe last year you made an astute observation that Mao's neck is a bit stiff (paraphrasing, correct me if I am wrong), and I agree. About emoting (with facial expression on Chopin); I actually love Mao's Chopin interpretation, esp last years sp. I think overall she does a good job interpreting with the light ethereal quality of her skating ( I mean blades across ice). This year's Chopin, BTW who chose such a hideous version, the piece is most beautiful when it is played with solo piano as originally composed by Chopin, but Mao's choreographer chose a piano + cello version, the cello provided a bass line, like a passacaglia. The poetry and romance of the piece is totally ruined (at least for me). So for me, it just turned into an appreciation of the tech part of Mao's jumps, spins, spirals .
Ms Saigon, Alain Boubli had music that ran the gamut of happiness, love, fear and disaster.
Maybe they are too young, but they have to start somewhere. That is why I like Nagasu (off topic). Her programs are always age appropriate, and she works hard on presenting different genre of music from broadway to ballet. Further off topic, Zhang OTOH has been skating basically to the same style of music, soft pretty (she does a good job), but so far I see Nagasu exhibiting more versatility.
I like Sarah Meire, but I really don't like how she exaggerates her smile, she opens her eyes too much looks like she is scared. I think she should just follow the music, let it tell her when to smile and make it more natural. She's a good skater, and I think this is very distracting from her performance
