Ladies' SP

Please!!! Comments about the mexican girl Mary Ro reyes !! I know her and this is her second international competition.. I just want to know how did she look like ..

On a side note, was any body else bothered by the way Nagasu lands all of her jumps on the inside edge and quickly switches to the outside edge? Her jumps look fine to the naked eye until you see those uneven tracings on the ice.

Yeah, I've noticed too. She does this consistently. And in the second half of her LP, she tends to under-rotate on top of landing on an inside edge. I think it must be the position of her landing hip during the jump and on landing, she's not turning it out enough or something. But judges seem to turn a blind eye to the inside edge, as long as she doesn't under-rotate.

Yes, it is required to do a loop. I was talking about yesterday's men's lp.

I tend to forget that not everyone does a 3R like Asada or Denise Bielmann. The moment people start to skim the ice before take-off, I take as a sal unless there's a tell-tale spring as they jump. ;)

Wow, the American youngsters are not only extremely talented, but sooooooooo competition tough. They all put out their best in the SP! That's really amazing.

They would have come in 1-2-4 at 4CC after third (Mao Asada would've been 3rd).

American ladies definitely have a bright future on the international scene! No other country boasts such a promising crop of teenagers right now. 2010 is starting to look very good for the US. It's also really good that these three, plus Ashley Wagner, are pushing each other to improve their skating. None of them can rest on their laurels and hope to coast, because the domestic competition is so tough. It's probable that two of them won't even make it out of National's next year, unless Ashley can create some miracle at WC this year. It's so sad, but at the same time it must be so motivating for all of them!
All the present Amercian Ladies, except for Kimmie, entered in Worlds are totally new to that competition. The European, Japanes and Korean Ladies are all seasoned World skaters. That's way it is this year.

She was in the earlier first group to skate. You'll have to ask those who watched the 4am EST group.

Ladies' LP skating order is out, here's the last group:
20 Mirai NAGASU 65.07
21 Yuki NISHINO 54.15
22 Elena GLEBOVA 53.05
23 Jenni VAHAMAA 50.30
24 Rachael FLATT 60.16
25 Caroline ZHANG 62.60

The last group will have a hard time following up after Mirai, if she skates the lights out. But I'm so glad they're not using the stupid deterministic reverse-order rule!

It's interesting how there are clearly two top tiers, one with SP scores in the 60's, one in the 50's, and the rest in 40's.

Pecking order is what I call it. lol. We still have the final flight under COP. Thanks for the info regarding skate order.

:frown:What happened to Samson? 14th?

No 2 spots for Canada next year and likely not the # of JGP assignments.........:cry::cry:

living up to expectations, american girls 1,2,3. Glad Caroline skated well, but Marai is our very own yu-na. she will be pretty near impossible to beat. With caroline skating last... all the pressure goes to her.

Actually, someone on another thread posted the season best ISU scores ( before JW ) of all the competitors at JW. Samson is 14th on that list so based on that, she finished where expected. Although we Canadians do know she is capable of better especially in the short program which is her strength.

Right now after Samson is 10th on the country list so Canada would have 8 JGP slots if the standings stayed as they are. Hey this season we only had 7 JGP slots so that is an improvement ( even though not much of one). Hopefully she skates well enough to maintain the 8 slot position ( I don't think she can catch the 16 JGP slot region).

I adore Mirai.. She could easily become my favorite, even over Yu-na. But, Mirai has had some real issues with the long program, I think it's growth related, so I'm not really sure about her because of that... She was better though at nationals, so we will see.

I worry about her too. Her mom said in an interview that skating after Yu-na at CoC made her really nervous and thus making uncharacteristic mistakes (she had two falls in the LP). She skated her best LP at National's, but that was before Rachael, Ashley, and Mirai skated, so we'll see if she can pull that out again. If she can skate her best, I think skating last might slightly play in her favor, since there's a clear appreciation of PCS with skating order -- yes, even within the last group! Maybe it will all balance out.

Anyway, it's good that she gets practice skating after amazing performers, because if she wants to succeed on the big stage, she needs to develop nerves of steel asap!

What good is getting an extra slot if all it is used for is to send to the JGP Seniors who can't land jumps and will age out quickly?

Skate Canada has to do some serious thinking about what is going to happen when Joannie decides to hang up her skates. She will be 24 at the Olympics, and at some point she's going to want to stretch her horizons. Despite all the hopes, Cynthia is still not a consistent jumper, and Mira is, well, Mira. She's probably pretty close to being about as good as she can be.

Skate Canada MUST develop its younger skaters, and that means sending them to the international events. No, they won't bring home medals at first (and anyway, the Seniors haven't brought home any medals either). But they need the experience and they need to be developed as skaters.

Totally agree, but knowing Skate Canada the first skaters to get JGP slots next season will be Kang, Tisluk and Szmiett. All 3 have had ample opportunities to prove themselves and have gone on to implode regularly.

I agree an extra slot is of use only if SC uses them correctly. That means looking at our top novice, junior ( and in some cases pre-novice ) skaters for selection. They can't do any worse than the 3 I mentioned previously. More on this in a related thread on the edge.

Please, no Kang, no Tisluk, no Szmiett. I will be very blunt today. Any berth given to any of the skaters mentioned in your post should be considered wasted.
