Kazuki Tomono

Be completely honest do you think Kazuki will get to go to 4CC or Worlds? What decides that again? I strongly believe he has what it takes. He medaled at his first event in France. This season he has gotten so much stronger. Yes, he couldn’t get on the podium at NHK but he was super close.

I think he has a fair chance, provided he's clean. If he goes clean, he should easily defeat Kao and Shun on PCS. If Kazuki makes mistakes and doesn't qualify for the main team, I can see him as substitute for 4CC and WC. He's fairly reliable, so he'd be a reasonable choice. Plus even if Kao and Shun are chosen instead of Kazuki, they're injury-prone, and Kazuki as a substitute might still go in the end. But that's wild speculation. I can see him placing 4-6th at Nationals.

The criteria for the Japanese Skating Federation is exclusively the results at Nationals, whatever happened in the GP series is irrelevant for them.

This year, with Yuzu out of the picture and Yuma coming back from injury, the result is more uncertain than ever - the only 'guaranteed spot' is Shoma because he has a higher scoring potential and higher PCS than anyone else in the field. Yuma would be the other 'guaranteed spot' if healthy but he's coming back from a double fracture which is always difficult and we don't know what shape he's in. Other than that, Kazuki, Kao, Sota and Shun have similar scoring potential but can also be inconsistent. So, whoever goes clean among them is more likely to qualify. We can also have Koshiro and Tatsuya as dark horses!

There's also the aspect Sumiri mentioned: Kazuki tends to be very healthy while some of other guys are more prone to injuries. So, even if he doesn't podium at Nationals, he might still make it as an alternate!

So, in my view, Kazuki has a good chance, but so have the others. It's really up in the air and that makes it more exciting IMO than last year when the podium was pretty much guaranteed for Yuzu, Shoma and Yuma.

I kinda wonder if Hanyu will make a video wishing everyone at Nationals good luck? I can see him doing that with the skaters mentioning their reactions to it.

Kazuki tweeted..and also put on Instagram that Now Voice has been updated and he anwered questions.
Thanks! Here's his IG story about it. He looks happy!

His 10th article on nonno has also been published!

He's going to be rather busy the next couple of months, so possibly not.

Best of luck to Kazuki, in any case.

I really don't think so, because now Yuzuru Hanyu is out of the Japanese Skating Federation.
This doesn't mean that he's not interested at all, of course. I'm sure he will watch the skates, either in streaming or later.

How fun! Flea markets are awesome. I wonder what the ones in Japan are like. When I’m there in a few years I’ll definitely need to go to one.

I literally LOL'd at that part :ROFLMAO:

I loved this latest article too. Normally I don't relate much to the fashion bits, but this time I really enjoyed it because I also love UNIQLO fleeces! I didn't know much about the Barbour brand so that was interesting. I feel like I learned something about my own culture/country through Kazuki 🇬🇧

There were some really good insights about his performance at NHK Trophy, and it was so heartwarming to read about his happiness when he saw MIYAVI had seen his EX!

The Ehime pics with Koshiro and the Sapporo pics with Sota are so cute. In fact, looking at the Ehime pics made me think of Tsurara, a Japanese fan that was very active in this thread a few years ago. She is from that area IIRC and a huge fan of Koshiro, too. I hope she is well and got to see these pictures

Finally, after giving marriage advice in a previous edition, Kazuki hands out solid parenting advice! He is really wise beyond his years.

I just looked at the pics - what are those bread(?)sticks? Do you know? Or read the translation, unlike me 🙈

Guys!!! My prayers were answered! Kazuki was selected to represent Osaka at the National Sports Winter Festival (aka Kokutai) in January, together with Nobu :love2:

Of course, if he gets selected for 4CC, he will most likely WD from Kokutai, but if not, at least we know there will be a really fun competition waiting for him! He said before he always has a lot of fun at Kokutai, and the combination of Kazuki and Nobu's personalities in the K&C will have the power of a thousand suns ☀️

Speaking of Osaka, he hosted an ice show yesterday, apparently attended by 1,200 people 🤯

Kazuki Tomono (24 = Ueno Shiba Skating Club), who ranked 5th in the 2018 World Figure Skating Men's Championship, skated at the "Autumn Challenge Sports 2022" event hosted by Osaka City held at the Maruzen Intec Osaka Pool on the 11th.

Tomono performed “Happy Jazz,” which he has used in the short program this season. He mesmerized his fans by performing to the clapping of about 1,200 people. An ice show in my hometown of Osaka. "I'm surprised to see so many fans and people who come to experience it, and I feel like I've grown." He was also inspired by the high level of junior and novice athletes, and said, "I hope that through figure skating with me at the forefront, Osaka will be able to revitalize sports." The show, which lasted about an hour, ended with Black Biscuit's "Timing ~Timing~". It is composed mainly of Tomono, and all the performers show off pop choreography. “I don’t have many opportunities to be in charge of the finale, so it was a good experience,” he said. Regarding the song selection, "The songs from the early Heisei era and the Showa era are popular, and the young children will understand, and the parents' generation will feel nostalgic. It's really fun, and I thought it was a good song, so I chose this song."

Tomono will participate in the "91st All Japan Figure Skating Championships" (21st-25th, Towa Yakuhin RACTAB Dome, Osaka). ``I want to do my best so that I can perform to my satisfaction,'' he said. "I will do my best to stay focused and achieve good results at the All Japan Championships." The ice show featured 10 athletes, including novice, junior, and Kansai University athletes. After the event, a skating experience class was held for children from 5 years old to elementary school students.

It is such an opportunity, to be able to skate Happy Jazz without the pressure of competition! And with more spectators than Grand Prix Final after all! Will a video be released?

It was a really local event, so no videos as far as I know 😕 You're right, drawing in this amount of people is amazing!

On a different note, check out this cute reel with KanaDai and Kazuki! https://www.instagram.com/reel/CmBoX8oJOoa/
They were promoting the Ice Explosion show that's gonna take place in January 😊

Wow awesome job Kazuki! 👏🏻 perhaps one day I’ll be able to attend one of his shows in Osaka if he continues to do them while he competes and after he retires. I plan to move to Japan in a few years to teach English to both children and adults.
