My guess about Brooke and Ben is probably that they (Skate Canada) really wanted to give Kelly Ann and Loucas a spot at 4CC... They were very close about 1 point away from bronze... spread the wealth would be my guess.... And as Skate Canada probably believes that Lia and Trennt can improve with the opportunity and visibility at 4CC as they are unknown as a brand new pair...

I hadn't seen the post in this thread so I opened a thread in Canadian Nationals... I cannot delete it myself... so if Moderators think it's overkill, then please delete it ;)

Glad Lia and Trennt are getting the opportunity to get more international competition exposure with 4C. I am surprised that Deanna and Max are going but perhaps Brooke and Ben will be able to step in if Deanna doesn’t feel recovered enough.

oh wow was not expecting them to split Wesley and Gogo like that. I guess Gogo is being considered for senior world as well after that FS so 4cc will be a trial for Conrad and him.
yup... Skate Canada often does this... I dislike it but in this case, it's not a bad idea. I would have prefered they sent Stephen to junior world and hope he podiums there. I am not sure about Aleksa really.

that's what I think too... I think it keeps the 4 teams focused and training instead of thinking about the next season. Brooke and Ben can step in at 4CC and then, if anything happened to any team for worlds, Loucas and Kelly Ann could step in then. Lia and Trennt are on a fast learning curve and the two events back to back should be a good thing.

It would probably be smart for Deanna and Max to skip it anyway. I can't imagine that skating at altitude would be good for Deanna, especially since she's said she's had trouble breathing. But, I can only think that, whatever they do is their choice.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put Deanna and Max pending she feels better and that Brooke and Ben are already in line to sub. I think it secures a spot for Loucas and Kelly Ann that way and 4 teams instead of 3 will get a championship and the chance of earning valuable ranking points/season's best scores for next season.

I like it though of course, I hope that Ben and Brooke are dealing well with this decision.

Stephen has competed at JW three times, and though he hasn't medaled, he may just be ready to be fully senior and not be super interested in JW again. Whereas Wesley has only done JW once. Who knows. Or maybe that's part of SC's reasoning. And they don't seem to want anyone at both 4CCs and JW.

I'm not sure about Aleksa either, but between those things it kind of makes sense. And it means another skater getting championship experience.

yeah... making 4CC a skate off between Conrad and Stephen (I mean, I think it's what it is though it's not formally announced) doesn't make sense to also send Stephen to Junior worlds where he would have to tweak his programs and then perhaps tweak them back for Senior worlds if he does win the skate-off... It makes for a very long season.

I am biased towards my son so I would have given him 4CC and Worlds right away of course, and then, it would have made sense to have Corey at 4CC and both Wesley and Stephen at JWC... but yeah.... I think Stephen may not feel happy about that version of things.. and clearly, his LP was one of the best skated LP by a Canadian man in a long time... though his SP, well.. no comments :)

I think 4CC is his final chance to show he can put out at least a half-decent short. I think that's what Skate Canada wants to see. Nationals was not the first time this season that he seriously botched it. I don't think it even matters (unless he totally bombed) what he does in the LP. They do not want to send someone to Worlds who is likely not to qualify for the LP.

And I think Conrad needs to have another competition like he had at Nationals to prove this wasn't a one-off.

yup... Conrad's 236 score was by far his personal best... Let's hope he can replicate this !

About the pairs, I would also note that Laurin/Ethier are missing their worlds min in the SP by a hair (0.07) , so sending them to 4CC gives them another shot at it
With Deanna's health uncertain (though presumably with so much time before worlds, she will be better) I'm sure they want to hedge their bets as much as possible, in case they need a replacement.

well well well... Brooke and Ben are not named as subs for 4CC (see the thread)... there are NO alternates. I wonder if they simply decided not to go.

Gabby is on the sub list.

Men : they put Beres Corey and... Roman....

I thought Keegan was on the list.

Where are those lists? (subs)

edit: ah you probably mean the isuresults page entry list, not any list that was copied here or from Skate Canada. Got confused as well 😅
I'm sure they won't really need a substitute but it's just a mindset helper I think, just a "I could be needed, so I'll do this instead of that" kind of thing.

I don't mind the three of them staying "extra" healthy, keeping themselves away from covid a bit more than they would probably already do etc. An interesting mix for sure.
