2023 U.S. Nationals Sr. Men's Free Skate

Torgashev was just amazing this afternoon. He was genuinely shocked at his free skate score. It was great to see him back in the hunt for Podiums. Hoping they send the top 3...
Torgashev’s last competition was Junior Worlds 2020. If they name him to Worlds, he would have to get his minimums first. I think they’ll name Naumov instead. Pulkinen was the “favorite” for the third spot, but he blew it by placing 9th and he doesn’t have a strong enough BOW that justifies ignoring Nationals results and sending him anyway.

Have we figured out if there's an event where Andrew can get the scores he needs? WTT is after Worlds. They have already named the 4cc team. Do you think they'll make a change so he can get them? This is kind of like Ross in 2018. He kind of came out of nowhere to take the Silver and they still bumped him from the team.

Its too late for 4CC. There are several senior B's to attend , the last one that counts for Worlds is the Challenge Cup, Feb 23.

That's kind of late to place him on the team at this point. WTT is also a place where he can get his minimums isn't it. Even if he doesn't go to worlds, it will set him up very well for the next GP season.

I kind of disagree with you on Camden’s BOW. He was fifth at Worlds last year and, but for what I will always consider to have been some very questionable judging, would have been fourth.

He is also a beautiful skater, but that is of course beside the point :)

Camden finished 8th this year at Nationals, not 9th, but unfortunately even though I really like Camden, I have to agree he blew it. I think he'll still be named as an alternate for Worlds like Max Aaron was constantly an alternate. He'll probably still be named for 4CC. But I don't mind if Liam Kapeikis gets sent, good experience.

I have no opinion on whether Torgashev should be selected for Worlds and given the chance to earn the technical minimums.

i was busy today so i only saw the protocols... Mailinin 3lz-3a-3t sequence for a whopping 19 points in BV... WAAAAAH!!!!!! who needs quads when you can sequence like that... of course, he has quads too ;)

Sad for Camden but it seems that his glorious skating at worlds last year may have been the exception to confirm the rule of his inconsistency. Sad because he is probably my favourite American skater.

Congrats to Jason for his comeback after half a year off... and to Torgashev for an even more special comeback... it shows a lot of determination to come back after such a long injury break.

Happy for Naumov and Jimmy because I had put them in 4th and 5th in my prediction game ;)

I will watch some later if individual videos come by

Jason should Have won! He is the complete skater! I just don’t agree with the scoring system! It seems that there is too much emphasis on jumps! There is so much more to “figure” skating!
He is not complete. He doesn’t have quads. He doesn’t even try them.

Are we gonna be able to see the gala?
I’m not. I went on a let’s play where to catch the Uber adventure and got back here and collapsed. The $25 parking fee didn’t include in/out privileges so I guess those people have to sit in their cars for 2 hours waiting for it to be 5 so they can line up again. Does anyone know why they do this?

He doesn’t have 4CCs minimums and nowhere to get them before 4CCs. Is there anywhere else he could actually go and get them?

Jimmy Ma placed higher than either of those skaters. What is your rationale for not sending him?

Just caught up myself. I should have known a clean short for Ilia meant a messy long. :( Congrats on the win though Ilia - hope after the initial disappointment in his performance wears off he can be happy and proud of his first national title! Like he said - use this as a learning experience.

Jason was so beautiful - darn that last flip... but what a difficult entrance into it. I really did not know what to expect from him this week after not competing all season, but he looked so great here... I do believe you could see he was skating without pressure and it gave him such freedom!

Wow Andrew! He won the freeskate, deservedly so - amazing! So glad to see him back - he must be over the moon.

Max - a shame about the fall but still really beautiful skating - so fast too! Glad he got on the medal stand with pewter.

Jimmy Ma - so good! And Yaro shocked me - landing quads! Samuel in the top ten - what a great debut!

So sad though for Tomoki, Camden and Liam.

The deadline is passed for 4CC... it was even passed at Canadian Nationals.... Fiona Bombardier doesn't have them (never competed in seniors internationally) and is in the same situation... It is possible to get minimums for Worlds but no longer for 4CC.

I would be assuming Jimmy Ma is a lock for Four Continents. The question is who gets named for 4CC besides Naumov and Ma IMO.

WTT is in April so after Worlds
