Improvements? should she be pleased?

personally i think it was a little better than nationals, in that there were only two falls, not three and that she did a 3/3 (which i really hope for all fairness was downgraded).

Her SP i have to say was no better, and i did not see the sensitivty to the music that I saw in the nationals LP. The navy blue grandma dress and messy hair didn't help. remember that she did not even try the second 3/3 or the famous 3 axel. I think that her footwork looked a little lost at times she did not seem to really sell the program at any point. I think that this freeskate was a poor choice for her, i hope next year she picks a better piece of music that she can relate to more and that she can put the second 3/3 back in. She will need it.

I too felt it was better than the disaster she had at Nationals, but maybe it's because I was preparing myself for the worst to come. She didn't seem to be bothered with her low scores, which bothered me because that is not what I would expect from an elite competitor.
I never liked her programs this season, but the short was somewhat better because the excitement of having landed the jumps showed through her performance. Why she dumped "Ever After" for that crap "Nessun Dorma" I will never know.

nothing like kick a girl when she's down, or worse beat an already dead horse...

I think it was nice to see her not ready to just curl up in a ball and cry. She didn't just BOMB like Nationals, she was lovely in teh short, and I thought she looked just fine in the LP

no it wasn't perfect, but it was better than nationals, and I'm sure that's why she was okay with it.

What did you want her to do, throw a tantrum because she didn't skate better. She said so her self that she's found the love for skating again, hopefully she'll rest up this summer, train, and be back.

It's interesting to read the different opinions on this board. I, for one, liked both of her dresses and I think her hair is nice.

I thought her short program was great and under marked. She nailed all of her jumps, and I think got called for an underrotated 3F that l thought looked completed. As for her presentation, I must say I enjoy her skating. I don't feel anyone, really, in this current crop of skaters really "relates" to their music very well, so I do not believe this is a glaring issue in Kimmie's skating. Let's face it, there's nobody out there right now who emotes and relates to their music like Michelle did, or Sasha did.

I also didn't get the impression that Kimmie didn't care about her scores. In fact I'm pretty sure I saw tears in her eyes sitting in the K&C after the long program looking at her marks. She is a fierce competitor, and of course she wants to do well. At the same time, she has a great positive attitude, and that is something you need to excel in any sport. You won't get anywhere if you keep beating yourself up after every mistake. This is a sport and ice is slippery. Things happen. Skaters have competitions and seasons where things just don't go right. It doesn't mean they should give up and not try anymore.

This was a definite improvement over Nationals. Considering that in her past two long programs, she had fallen on the 3 exact same jumps, it was absolutely great for her to land her 3-3 and 3F here solidly in the long. That was perhaps a mental hurdle that she was able to leap over. The underrotations and wrong edge stuff can be worked on in the offseason, but the important thing for Kimmie was to get some confidence back and she accomplished that here. Yes, there were the two falls, but the rest of her program was solid and very nicely done. So I will agree with Dick Button on this one... She skated well in this competition and it's an improvement. She can build on this for next season. If I was her, I would definitely come away from this Worlds feeling better than I did at Nationals. 7th at Nats to 7th at Worlds? I'll take it.

Thank you! I think this experience for Kimmie was definitely a positive one. She needs to rebuild her confidence. I hope she'll continue to train with Richard Callaghan and build on this experience. I liked her costumes, BTW ( that deep shade of blue).

I agree with Toni, too!...for Kimmie to not just want to curl up in a ball and not even try would've been something to 'complain' about. I can't say that I would've been able to continue to World's if I'd performed the way Kimmie performed at Nationals (of course, I'm not a skater and I know my limits, I'd never make it in the skating world). Kimmie went forward, put the past behind her and conquered some demons in her World's performance. Good for her! It can only hopefully help the next season start off on a good note!

I thought that both she and Bebe were underscored in the short. I thought Kimmie held back a bit in the LP but she did not give up. I thought the LP dress looked great on her. What next year holds, who knows. Maybe RC can help her with her jumps. And her confidence. I already see a bit of an improvement. I still think she's a contender for a Nats medal and trip to Worlds next year. I like her personality and hope the best for her. She represents her country well by being a good athlete and a good sport.

P.S. NJsk8fan, I love the cat!!!!!

I hope Kimmie stays with Callaghan for the entire next season. If she does, I'll bet her jumps get back to where they should be, and I'll bet that he'll bring back the triple axel. I still think she's a sweetheart, and I'm old enough to be her grandfather.

I thought she skated a bit tenative. An example would be: waiting to fall or something to happen.. But I am glad she went out there and skated. I feel it is very hard to balance college and skating. Plus, is she ready to move on in her life??? She already has the Worlds Gold Medal !! Without 3/3's it will be hard to compete with the younger world crowd.

I think it is so odd that I always hear without 3/3's it's going to be hard to compete with the younger crowd... Kimmie, is only 18....so I guess she's old and needs to retire..LOL I thought it was funny when they were calling Julia Sybastian from HUN grandma.. Yes, Kimmie may be past her prime due to the fact puberty has set in and she doesn't have that thinner child body.. Maybe she has accepted this fact already.. She does already have her World gold.. Hopefully, Flatt, Nasagu and Zhang will rise to the Sr ladies podiums next year.. After they turn 17 I guess it's all downhill for them too...LOL

I think she did a bit better in the short, she seemed to have more speed there. Although I have never liked her 3-3 jump (it looks as if she is fighting to land it), but I thought it was OK. The interpretation wasn't my favorite, but the thing is that I remember Michelle's The Feeling Begins, so I compare Kimmie's with that one.

The FS, well, I never felt Nessum Dorma was a piece for Kimmie. That version of the aria is not my favorite, and I don't think Kimmie related much to the music. I'm sure she likes it, but just didn't get it.

Overall, she did better than Nationals, but she still has many areas to improve to e able to compete with Asada, Kim, and even skaters in the US that are starting to get noticed. Hopefully next season she will find a better music that its her better.

Kimmie

I think she has already had a wonderful career-the type of success that most skaters only dream of. Olympics, Worlds, Junior Worlds.
But I think it is over.
I think she lacks the natural athletic ability to compensate for her new size. While the rest of her skating is 'nice' it is not at the same level as those at the top. When she was 15 and 16 it was her jumping ability that kept her on top. I would say that Ashely has more of a chance to move up, because Ashley gets nice air on her jumps.
She is a cute girl with a cute personality, but she ought to seriously consider moving on to new phases in her life and skating career.

I loved her blue dress, not much the red one. But I think overall she's done "pretty well" comparin to Nationals. On the other hand, I happen to love her programs and her music choices that coz of her sudden problems and struggles werent performed to their potential. Im so sorry for Kimmie, since she was headin to be a better competitor with new combos and stuff & this puberty happened and all her deductions, i cant even imagine how frustratin this season has been for her. My best wishes for the next season, and hopefully she'll stay with Callaghan and get her confidence back and that she's got time enough to adjust to her body.

If Arutunian can get back Jeffrey Buttle's triple axel, Callaghan has some hope of getting back Kimmie's 3/3's and triple axel. He also has a shot at fixing her flip technique. I thought Kimmie was showing greater power at Worlds, and certainly a better attitude, less falls, and better jumping.

I'm not giving up on Kimmie at all, yet.

Perhaps dealing with growing and still trying to continue college is just too much to deal with at the same time.

I think she's got a ways to go yet as far as confidence goes and developing a mature style. She's athletic, but in my opinion, is missing grace and a flowing movement with the body, especially her arms. I though she was placed just a- bout right for what she delivered. 42

Thanks...I'm on a cat forum as I have 3 cats and when searching for some fun graphics I found this one...my real name is Pat.

I love Kimmie. I think she's a great kid and a wonderful champion, and I think she has a lot of untapped potential. I think she can still achieve quite a lot if she can get her confidence back on track.

Kimmie skated a very beautiful SP and would have skated the same for the LP except for the spills. She is a good skater. Those who hold the opposite view have their own standards for what is good.
