Same old same old..After Oly and lots of splits/retirements people were like: omg, no pairs left
New pairs suddenly form: omg, the level of pairs?

Strange but the post on Wasa Pairs seem to be removedSad for matte ferland... i really liked them.. best wishes to IF
The number does not equal quality, I guess that's what people have in mind. It's good to see new pairs formed, but the sheer number does not necessarily mean the quality of the discipline will be getting any better overnight. Currently, there are very few top teams, lots of average teams, and then some that under normal circumstances would never make it to any Championships. I do hope year after year the discipline will be getting stronger, Conti/Macii are the best example that everything is possible. After Oly and lots of splits/retirements people were like: omg, no pairs left

I know a lot of people do not want the Russians back for various reasons but if yo counted them in the scenario the quality goes up considerably. The real drop off is Canada and China right now.The number does not equal quality, I guess that's what people have in mind. Canada? With teams finishing 4th and 6h at worlds??? Both at their first worlds??? and a couple promising teams as well close to top 10 level. It looked really scary for a little while after the Olympic season but pairs is definitely not a discipline I worry about as a Canadian skating fan... singles, fine... pairs and dance ? very competitive.I know a lot of people do not want the Russians back for various reasons but if yo counted them in the scenario the quality goes up considerably. I have to agree about Canada doing just fine in pairs - and dance for that matter. When after the retirement of Kristen Moore Towers / Michael Marinaro you still have:Canada? I have to disagree with this, yes even ordinary people do care for quads and 3A. I remember the year Trusova came to Nepela Trophy her first year in seniors, the stands were twice as full as the year before and many of those people had no idea who any of the other skaters were, they were there for the quads...The level is not problem to big audience. It does not count if some say the people who do not know enought are not real fans. The sport needs regularly people's money. In Finland local ice hockey games can have 10 000 people in audience. In FS only worlds if there are japanese skaters. I don't want to to watch the sport when it is dangerous. Maybe those who want dangerous tricks have enough money to give to the sport to get what they want. Ordinary people do not care if there are quads or 3As. If some do not want ordinary people to be in the audience, then support the sport yourselves.
Absolutely, the quality would be elsewhere with Russians in...the Russian nats competition in pairs last year was for me personaly the Europeans in pairs, that's where the quality was, but since it looks that we are heading into another season without Russians...I know a lot of people do not want the Russians back for various reasons but if yo counted them in the scenario the quality goes up considerably. The real drop off is Canada and China right now.
Perhaps many in the audience were Russian? I recall years back when I was at Nepela, there were quite a number of Russian fans eager to see Kolyada, Medvedeva, BobroSolo and the pairs. And it stuck with me that they mostly cheered just for 'theirs', not for the rest of the skaters. I'd say many of them come to events to see their own stars, not to enjoy musical skating or quads or anything else specifically.I have to disagree with this, yes even ordinary people do care for quads and 3A. If they were, their Slovak was pretty darn good, wouldn't be able to understand them otherwise, my Russian is pretty rusty. The audience is usually mainly full of Slovak families with children.Perhaps many in the audience were Russian? There was and still is a previous clip on WASApairs Instagram of Thierry and Gabbie executing a throw jump. Thierry is mentioned by his first name in the caption. Everyone who follows pairs closely, know who he is. I posted about this in the U.S. pairs thread a couple of days ago. So obviously, the next question was whether they were trying out and on the verge of pairing, which seemed likely. Fans on other platforms have made comments too.Strange but the post on Wasa Pairs seem to be removed![]()

Another (even more extreme) example is the pairing of Hase/Volodin, who didn't make an official announcement, nor were there any pictures or videos of them together before Nikita was released by the Russian fed. There were rumours from the beginning, and they were at Nationals (outside of competition, not filmed and pictures weren't released until much later), but if somone doesn't follow (German) pairs skating closely, they were probably clueless (and it was easy to miss even if you were invested in the situation)There was and still is a previous clip on WASApairs Instagram of Thierry and Gabbie executing a throw jump. Among people at the Colorado rink, in addition to people close to Thierry in Canada, they are aware of what's going on. However, since I don't think there's been any official notice that Matte/ Ferland split, and neither SC, nor US figsk has mentioned anything about this new I/F pairing, a public announcement by WASApairs is likely seen as jumping the gun.
In the age of Internet and social media, it's really difficult to keep things underwraps and well-coordinated among different entities. So, until all the ducks are in a row, we won't hear more. After all, Thierry has to be released by SC, so there's courtesy or protocol involved in making announcements I suppose.
Quite often, everyone already knows about pairings before official public announcements are made. For example, I.AM only recently posted an official announcement about Olivia Smart & Tim Dieck, an ice dance pairing we've known about for awhile.

Another example is the pairing of Katie McBeath & Daniil Parkman, which has been kept fairly quiet, but it's still an open secret. Nothing will be announced I would imagine until negotiations between U.S. figsk and the Georgian fed regarding Parkman's release, reach a certain point. Not that a release would be expected before an official announcement, but there are likely logistics and protocols involved.
They can still do US Nationals and other US competitions, correct?Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov have teamed up, with Alisa switching from Germany to the USA: https://matchtv.ru/figure-skating/m...uristka_Alisa_Jefimova_budet_vystupat_za_SShA
Alisa has already received her release from the German Fed, but will be unable to compete internationally next season.
