2023 Lake Placid Ice Dance International | Jul 31 - Aug 2

Here reporting to you live from Lake Placid!

Music so far-

Carhart/H — Queen medley
Chung/Mackenzie—familiar; Human League maybe? Depeche Mode? Someone like that

Group 2 Int Juniors now taking the ice. Lots of disco-y looking costumes. Wasn’t that the 70s, though?

Any reports on scoring for the teams that have gone already? 🙈 The live scoring website isn't updating (yet, hopefully?)

Neset/M are several orders of magnitude ahead of this field. Him especially—he has beautiful leg extension and quick feet. Music, Scorpions/Joan Jett
Other music:
Goodstadt team- B52s (without the zany, sadly)
Gover/F —Blondie Call Me/Joan Jett (decent speed, he slipped)
Peals—Janet Jackson (currently second)
Stanley/S of Mexico-Hungry Eyes/Danger Zone (lively—nice job by a team new to me)
Tibau/D Pointer Sisters

Late 70s early 80s. Yours truly had a "boy girl" party with a disco theme in about 1981.

Browns 75.26–I’m Still Standing by Elton, combined with something I couldn’t identify (and I lived through the 80s)
Israeli brother sister team ALSO did George Michael. Again, I wouldn’t think of this for siblings!
Diana Davis’ skating skills have improved since I saw her last (Skate Canada two seasons ago.) They are deservedly behind the Browns and ahead of the Israelis.
I think Wolfkostin/Tsarevski are going to be fabulous! You can tell that they are not used to each other yet. But already she is better with him than she ever was with Jeff Chen—and Dmitri does not look to have lost any of his former flair.

Jr and Sr Canadian teams seem to be having a rough time at Lake Placid.... Unfortunately, without a livestream, it's hard to say what is happening. 😬😬😬

Seems that they were scored very similarly to how they were scored at Dallas Classic, they just avoided the extended lift deduction and Yahli didn't have any issues with the twizzles today (which gained them basically three points off the bat).

A strong statement to be sent to JGPs if they keep this up in the Free.
Good for Jeffrey and Yahli! Obviously, the field is different from Dallas Classic, since some of the top U.S. juniors are competing in the LP international junior comp event.

Really happy to see The Brown Sibs leading in the RD. Maybe finally they will get acknowledged this year. Frustrating heretofore. And Wolf and Tsar would have been fourth using their scores from the other end of the comp. Not bad at all. While Jeff and Co. would have not fared well in this end of the Jr comp. Did Jeff shoot himself in the foot? Hoping not. Oy.

That's good to hear about the Browns. Going to IAM was a great help.

Looks like their recent training moves may be paying off - go Browns!
Now back at the hotel. This was my first time seeing the Browns live. They take the ice with a bit of attitude—not arrogance exactly, but as if to say, We Are Something Special and We Are Going To Show You Right Now. And then they proceed to do it. Just amazing performance skills—you can’t take your eyes off them. I am so glad training part time in Montreal hasn’t beaten that out of them!

Another team that looked good tonight was Pate and Bye! I’ve not been a fan in the past, but they have clearly upped their game since I saw them last, skating more freely (and faster!) than before, with a top-notch program to Bobby Brown’s My Prerogative. Though they still remind me of teddy bears, they could not have pulled this off even a year ago, so, well done.

May I also say that one thing I love about this year’s RD theme is that everyone is using the ORIGINAL versions of their music—I assume they have to, but still! And the choices are more creative than we might have expected. Tonight I heard not only INXS, Prince, George Michael, and Janet/Michael Jackson, as you might expect, but the B52s, Blondie, Billy Idol, Men Without Hats, the Pointer Sisters, Run DMC, and many more!

I can report on the Canadian teams! Quite a few had good music choices—Goodstadt team had Love Shack by the B52s, and how can you mess up something like that? Gover team had Blondie’s glorious Call Me mixed with Joan Jett, another winner, and I thought they had good speed, but he did have a slip.

I thought young Hensen/Lickers had flair but were hampered by a program with about 10 music cuts that looked to have been edited with a meat axe. I was disappointed in B/B, thought their goth-styled program (to INXS) didn’t suit them and was way, way overdone, plus, he slipped (one of those little Madison chock “is it or isn’t it a slip” things that sometimes get called, and sometimes doesn’t. I remember thinking, I know many Canadians expect these two to rocket up the standings and overtake the LaLas, but based on what I’m seeing here, that’s not happening.

Sounds great. Also, I am jealous.

Never heard any Canadians -though there are over 40 Millions of them, say that BB would overtake LALA... as a matter of fact, it will be good if they can overtake a team like Fabbri and Ayer... Just wondering where you heard that? Here? ;)

I agree with you about H/L : all the pieces they had were on my wish list... but NOT TOGETHER :) what an awful amount of cuts... crazy...
