Dubreuil/Lauzon v. Virtue/Moir in Vancover

Virtue and Moir will be next olympic champions, Dubreuil and Lauzon are okay their main strenghts throughout the years was their lifts, although they did improve their speed and footwork tremendously I don't see them coming back and winning Virtue and Moir grew up with this new system they know it very well.

You gotta admit this would be a dream team for Canada in those Olympic Games. Both team could challenge for possibly places on the podium.

I would have to say D&L, but I know the judges just seem to adore V&M. I find D&L much more interesting and enjoyable to watch, and they have such great lifts! Also, I think performing with SOI (I just saw it this evening in Albany) has really improved the way they perform, they really know how to play to a crowd!

I'd just like to know the answer to the first question - will D and L be coming back at all?????????????

I wish they would skate in 2009 so Canada could qualify 3 spots but I am not sure they will...............

If Canada sends C&P as their second team, I think they'd have a good chance of regaining three spots (if D&L choose not to return).

To me V/M's twizzles are amazing; nimble and light; complicated yet precise. However, All three teams of the Shpilband camp seem to have this strength. What stood out about V/T for me was their genuine connection depicting the storyline as well as their understanding to the inner articulation and harmonic rhythm.

On the other hand D/L was the first team that made me understand that lifts can express the music as well as the story. Their lifts had thrown such a huge impact on me that I remember thinking ... GEE~ they are like a master artist with the best paintbrush who can draw anything on the ice! Also, their connection is so mature and natural that one doesn't even feel the need to mention about it. In other words, D/L is a more complete team of their own. However, they are visibly weaker in the department of twizzles and footwork sequences... even I can tell that they need quicker rotation and precise synchronization.

Both teams seem to have strength and weakness when they are compared element by element. It seems to boil down to V/T's momentum and youth versus D/L's experience and maturity. It will be a feast to watch when two teams collide.

Will D/L have strong enough desire to come back and win? I'd say please come back not only for the win but for the love of figure skating. No matter what and how you do, there are fans who love you very very much!!!

Actually D&L almost don't twizzle at all. They produced linked three turns most of the time instead of a proper twizzle. However, their lifts were the best.

You can say that again. They were the peak of the show for me (and there was a lot of good skating). Exhilaratingly beautiful.

i guess. but show is different from competition.
how old will they be?
i dont want to see another Petrova/tikhonov

In 2010 Dubreuil will be 35 and Lauzon 34.

Petrova/Tikhonov were 29 and 36 in their last season of competition.

... and, shows can be more demanding in many ways, too.
Performing once in front of an audience can be equivalent to five-hours or more practice sessions. Performing the same program night after night and keeping it fresh is even a bigger challenge. From what I hear, D/L has been performing superbly in their shows. Believe me, that is much easier said than being done.

That is just not true. Practice sessions can last for hours, while a show number last no more than 4-5 minutes. The skaters in a show aren't doing the same hard-core tricks they would do in a competitive program. The biggest difference is the stress from competition is totally absent. Skaters can focus on entertaining, and don't have to concern themselves about tiny bobbles that could mean the difference between a medal and no medal in competition.

Would you say it differently if they start performing an Olympic FD caliber program in the show every night? How are D/L not keeping up with their tricks in their show programs?

I get butterflies whenever I get to perform for the audience. I want to do well. The kind of butterflies that I get doesn't seem to change whether or not I am being judged. Audience is always supportive, but it takes a lot of practice and experience for the performer to take advantage of it.

I still think one performance is worth several hours of practice sessions. Sometime we get too used to the TV commentators. They analyze and dissect the performance and makes the viewer think that those guys need to practice more... without noticing the fact that they are learning a great deal at the very moment of the performance.

There is an excitement that a show performer feels that comes from the performance itself and its reception by the crowd, and that is nothing like the nervousness of a competitive performance that is being judged.

One is happy and exhilarating, the other is stressful.

Skaters in a show don't have to prove they are better than the previous act or the act next to come. They just have to please the audience.

I have performed as an actor many, many times, and believe me, the rehearsals are far more draining and exhausting than the show.

nothing's really confirmed yet for D/L is it?
like if they come back for 2010 then they're going to have to fight as hard as sasha will have to when/if she comes back
and really, think about how akward it would be IF the 09 nationals it's VM(1) and DL(2) concidering how VM have always looked up to DL

This is exactly what my psychiatrist said to me.
Boy, I should have come to the Forum before talking to him.
He also said performing in a competition is a lot different situation~
Glad that you mentioned that you are an actor, so I know that you are not him
