2023-24 NQS/ Qualifying Competitions for US Nationals

Qualifying to Nationals (because its easy for me to forget and finding the correct document sometimes is a bit of a scavenger hunt)

SINGLES

Junior: maximum of 18 entries from the Sectional Singles Final Top 4 athletes per section Top 2 novice athletes per section invited to skate up to junior IF any athletes qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final of Figure Skating who are registered to compete junior domestically, they will receive a bye to the U.S. Championships (in addition to the 18 from the Sectional Singles Final), if they withdraw prior to or at the Championships their byed spot will not be filled as the maximum entries is 18

Senior: maximum of 18 entries inclusive of Byes and Sectional Singles Final Athletes receiving a bye per the U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook or approved bye criteria (will be published no later than July 1, 2022) Top 2 athletes per section from Sectional Singles Final Plus, next best scores nationwide until maximum is met

ICE DANCE

Junior: maximum of 10 entries from the U.S. Ice Dance Final Top 10 teams from U.S. Ice Dance Final IF any teams qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final of Figure Skating who are registered to compete junior domestically, they will receive a bye to the U.S. Championships (in addition to the 10 from the U.S. Ice Dance Final), if they withdraw prior to or at the Championships their byed spot will not be filled as the maximum entries is 10

Senior: maximum of 15 entries inclusive of Byes and the U.S. Ice Dance Final Teams receiving a bye per the U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook or approved bye criteria (will be published no later than July 1, 2022)Plus, next best teams from U.S. Ice Dance Final until maximum is met

PAIRS

Junior: maximum of 8 entries from the U.S. Pairs FinalTop 8 teams from U.S. Ice Dance Final IF any teams qualify for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final of Figure Skating who are registered to compete junior domestically, they will receive a bye to the U.S. Championships (in addition to the 8 from the U.S. Ice Pairs Final), if they withdraw prior to or at the Championships their byed spot will not be filled as the maximum entries is 8

Senior: maximum of 12 entries inclusive of Byes and the U.S. Pairs Final Teams receiving a bye per the U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook or approved bye criteria (will be published no later than July 1, 2022)Plus, next best teams from U.S. Pairs Final until maximum is met

I am very confused with this one. The advancement criteria they put out are different from the Rulebook for junior pairs.

JUNIOR PAIRS Maximum of 8 available spots at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships ... The top eight total combined junior scores from the nation in the U.S. Pairs Final

THE 2023-24 OFFICIAL U.S. FIGURE SKATING RULEBOOK

2502 Pairs teams qualify for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships:
A. For the junior events by:

1. Placing in the top 12 in junior at the U.S. Pairs Final;
2. Earning a bye: a. For qualifying to compete in the same event at the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final (not including alternates); b. As a member of the United States Figure Skating Team who meets the approved criteria per rule 2511.

Teams qualifying under this subparagraph (2) have the choice to compete at the U.S. Pairs Final but do not lose their bye to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, regardless of placement, nor displace a team who would have placed in the top 12 at the U.S. Pairs Final if said team had not competed. At such final the top 12 places plus the competitor(s) who receive a bye will advance to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

The Rulebook says top 12, but the Advancement Criteria says top 8 -- so which is which? Why is there a discrepancy? Can teams outside of the top 8 file a request to be included in the championship because of what the rulebook says?

That's interesting. Add to the mix that Flores/Wang will have a bye due to qualifying for the JGP Final.
 
I am guessing 8 is correct and the 12 was copied into that 500 page document from last year's wording. And even the wording within each announcement is wonky because it says a total of 8 spots are avail but top 8 from the Pairs final go...so now that we have F/W in JGPF, do they take only top 7 from final or end up with 9 teams at nationals?

I've been looking for the last few days, and I can't find anything on event pages, USFSA site, or google search. The one for Boston I copied from posts yuki@thelake posted in the pairs threads.
 
I am still on the hunt for the IJS leaderboard for the invitation-only Pacific Rim Advanced Novice happening this week as well

Not only are the results pages very difficult to find if they don’t appear in a Google search (especially the non-qual results), but to access the NQS standings you have to enter a member number & password on the cluttered EMS website like it’s a giant secret. And the site logs you out after a few minutes, so you have to enter your password over & over every time you want to see the standings. It’s like they don’t want anyone to actually follow this sport.

Don’t even get me started on why the hockey games at these rinks are streamed for free and we can’t get the comps streamed….yes, the music is part of it but…not the thread for it. Thank you for all the links!
