I would have given the edge to Lia and Trennt... I guess we could consider them a new team since they haven't been on the GP circuit yet. The Germans have great throws and their twist is superior but I wasn't impressed with their LP as much as I liked their SP. Overall, I feel the P/M had the best event of the teams there. It's not a big deal getting silver but if they do not qualify to GPF because of that, sigh.
While I liked the Germans in the SP, I felt they lacked flair in the LP and as it is 4 minutes, I was bored really early on. They ran out of steam too at the end losing levels etc. I was looking at the scoring and considering ordinals, I found it interesting that in the old-fashioned 6.0 ordinals style of scoring, P/M would have won both the SP and LP. Yet, they finished just behind the Germans in both programs. Sounds like a couple judges really scored them lower than average compared to the Germans.
I don't think there is much to say about the rest of the teams. It was a very weak field with the absence here of the world champions. THe USA number 1 team (Liu-Nagy) is very very promising. Their twist is perhaps one of the best in the world. But until they can land SBS triples and throw triples... ( I think they landed only one triple - the triple throw salchow) in the entire competition, I won't get invested in them. I can see why they already gather many fans. They have a special energy and look. He is a wonderful pair skater and she is very at ease in the air. I wish them time. With the retirement of KF and the injury of CH, they are, with KO, on top of the food chain in USA pairs... and that may be too much pressure for them yet. If they had time to learn throws properly and work on their SBS triples, that would perhaps bear fruit. The good news for them is that they cannot have another GP (not eligible for the replacement list) so they do have time until Nationals.
The rest of the LP was disaster after disaster with teams having major scary mishaps on lifts and falls on jumps and throws. Not an event I will rewatch.
