The 2023 NRW Trophy is set to take place Nov 16-19, 2023, in Dortmund, Germany. The event will the Singles (Women and Men) and Ice Dance disciplines in the Novice, Junior and Senior categories, and will be conducted in accordance with the 2022 ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the ISU Special Regulations & Technical Rules for Single & Pair Skating, the Technical Rules for Ice Dance 2023/24 (ISU Communication 2560), and relevant ISU Communications.

I wonder who will competing here and if there is a stream. I already know the Dutch entrants (all girls both in the advanced novice and junior section) but it would be interesting to know more. As well as knowing if there will be a stream or not!

None of the Dutch women/girls seen to be confirmed yet. Strange, because the young ones are already mentioned on the Dutch website to going there. There were even some sr women on the list, not mentioned on the Dutch site, but not conformed either. Gues I will just have to wait and see for the confirmation to come. But it's great to see the entrees and scoring!

Wow! It has taken me until now to realise that the NRW Trophy is no longer being held as 2 separate events!

I only noticed there now that they stopped having the Ice Dance competitions as a separate event in 2016. Admittedly, I did notice that they were holding a Summer event and an Autumn event the past few years, but it didn't twig with me that this was instead of having the Ice Dance competitions separate from the Singles / Pairs competitions.

Now it looks like they have cut down to just one event for this season.

I wonder if this is a result of decreasing entries, or increasing costs, or both. Whatever the reason, it's worrying.

Day 1 of the NRW Trophy starts with all the Pattern Dance segments. I've made it no secret that I don't like it when this is done, but they are arranged so that each level has a double bill. First up, we have a group of two Basic Novice partnerships.

Just a quick note to let you know that to get the stream to play, you have to de-activate your ad-blocker.

I didn't even know that Opera had a built in ad-blocker until I got that message!

It took a while, but I eventually worked out how to disable it. And the stream is playing away with no bother now.

When the second partnership were waiting for their scores, a song started playing over the tannoy with the first line "Everybody's talking about sex".

Erm, these are young children that are on the ice. This song is totally not appropriate!

See, this is what I don't like about the organisers having each level doing both sets of Pattern Dances back-to-back.

Basic Novice and Intermediate Novice each have 2 partnerships competing. And in each case, the PD1 start order is reversed for PD2.

So, the second partnership to go in PD1 only have a Warm-Up to separate doing their two programmes. Meanwhile, the first partnership to go in PD1 have a longer break in between doing their programmes.

That is not fair.
