Interview with Piper

She is healthy. She is happy.
They are excited to be going to Nationals as last year, they missed it, in 2022 it was without spectators and in 2021, canceled.

So it's the first time for them with a crowd since 2020 !!!!
Can you imagine?

Also, they said they had time this year to adjust their programs technically and artistically. I am looking forward to seeing them this week.
They are happy with their results so far this season : this is where they wanted to be.

New video posted from Romsky.

He explains why his skates didn’t make it to Warsaw!!

What bothers me the most is his analysis where he gives five tips to not lose the skates, like this is rocket science (I thought these tips are actually common sense… especially air tag bit 😳). Every athlete I know that travels internationally does this with their equipment.

Also, his attitude was “argh… my skates are lost…. I have a day or two….. I’ll just chill…..” nothing gets resolved …..
next day “argh….. they don’t know where my skates are? ….. I’ll just chill….” No!!!! Ask for a manager and get them to locate the skates. He ended up actually going to Munich where he tells someone that he is a figure skater and he is missing his skates and they went …. Oh!! Yeah…. Here are the skates… here you go!!! This could have been resolved easily over the phone.

Why is my Romsky such a mental headcase? 😵‍💫

The worst part was that this was the video about Warsaw and how much he learned from the experience and doesn’t even account that he then goes on to miss his next event… Golden Spin.

He mentioned that domestic events are no issue. But, I’m going to be praying he figures out how to get himself and his skates to nationals… because I can no longer take even his participation at events for granted.

Edit: step 1: make sure Romsky and his skates arrive
Then, step 2: hope that he doesn’t get nervous with a skating meltdown
(I’m going to be a nervous wreck next week 🙏)

We don't know whether he was really that chilled... or whether he tries to not go nuts when things happen he can't change. Maybe he did everything he could. I have had my life experiences with people telling me it's impossible to do anything about it and when they are very firm and you are young... you may not know that you have to try put some serious pressure on them. It doesn't necessarily make him a "headcase"...

I am super excited to see them at nationals. I think they have hands-down the best pair of programs this season (closely followed by LaLa), so I can't wait to see them perform.

It is a video filmed after the fact, so we're also getting an edited version of what happened when he is chill enough to talk about it. I don't think he'd include the parts where he was running around going nuts if that did happen.

Bev Smith interviewed Roman about the first half of his season. It includes what happened with Zagreb. He was supposed to connect in Munich (again), but they couldn't land due to snow so he ended up in St. John's where it snowed again.

He also won't be doing a 3A in the free, but will do it in the short.
Makes me feel better about his Zagreb non participation. Too much snow ❄️

I’m nervous about his 3A in the short. It seems to be his most difficult jumping element.

SP: 3Lz-3T, 4S, 3A (I wish he would just go for the 2A if he isn’t confident with the 3A)

FP: 4S-2A seq (saw him practice this combo in a video), 3Lz-3T, 3Lz, 3Lo, 4S, 3F-2T, 3S

In the free skate, he mentions two 4S’s and then just triples. So, the above is my prediction (not sure about the order)

“Whatever happens, we’re not travelling with you,” they say. I can’t blame them 😝

That's ambitious to do two 4s... at least he is doing 4s+2a seq if you are correct, much more manageable than the 4sEu3s.
I doubt he is doing the 4s so late in the program too. I am wondering if he does have a 3 jump combo because if he doesn't you will be upset ;)

I think we may see an even easier layout in the LP. I find this one a bit risky : what if he misses on the 4s or cannot tag the 2a ? He would need to place a 2a somewhere.. maybe in lieu of the 3s.
I am curious about the lutzes and flips too. Wasn't he saying one of these jumps was harder now after the injury? I may be imagining too much. The reality is that we haven't seen him in so long.

Regarding putting the 3a in the short : could be stamina but also could be the simple fact that some of the other guys are planning two quads and a 3a layout.. so with just one quad, if he were to only attempt a 2a, he may be in trouble.

Mind you, Roman can spin and Gogo and Conrad are definitely not awesome spinners, though the latter has improved this season.

Ok... i should have read bev smith's article before posting...

Mea culpa... it is indeed the 3flip and 3lutz jumps that give him issues with the ankle.

From the Bev Smith article

To help him on his way, Slipchuk got Sadovsky two senior B Challenge competitions; the Warsaw Cup in Poland Nov. 15 to 19 and the final one of the season, the Golden Spin of Zagreb Dec. 6 to 9.
So now we know whom to call whenever Conrad and our women do not get Challengers ;)
But the voodoo dolls weren’t finished with Sadovsky yet.
I wonder who is practicing voodoo against Roman... Seriously. Stop it.

Yes. The combos… I missed a jump for Roman!! 🫣 (me, of all people). I blame it on Romsky infuriating me after watching his video 🤭

He was practicing 4S 2A sequence… maybe he can add another 2A

He was practicing 3A eu 3S instead of his usual 4S eu 3S (an ugly combo for Roman); but, now with no 3A in his free skate, I don’t know 🤷 I think that was his ambitious layout with 2 3A’s

Recently saw him, 3F/3Lz 3T/2T combos in practice

3A is his least successful jump in practices. I think he wants to go as clean as possible… 🤞
Hoping he finishes top 2 at Nationals

Yup. Those were the last jumps be got back as he felt the most pain. But, in second last video, he mentioned he doesn’t feel pain on those jumps on the ice, only feels slight pain off ice on those jumps.

Maybe he is doing a 2aEU3s :cautious:

I like that combo. But, reading the article, it says “He will keep the triple Axel out of the long program. “We’re going to focus on getting a strong performance my first time out,” he said. He plans on two quad Salchows and really clean triples the rest of the way. “We can build on that,” he said.

So, 4S 2A 2A, 4S and then clean triples the rest of the way… so, 5 triples
3Lz or 3F (combo), 3Lo, 3Lz or 3F combo, solo 3Lz or 3F jump (can only repeat one more of these jumps), 3S?

He could also not use a 3-3 combo... not needed really in his case with a simpler layout if he wants to be unclean.
4s-2a, 4s, 3lz-2t-2lo, 3loop // 3lz-2t, 3f, 3s

True. Very different layout. I think he is hoping and aiming that this is enough to get a 80 TES score to land in the podium.

He would be wasting an opportunity to land 3T combo though…☹️
But, that layout is not bad.

I thought about the 3A in the SP. An individual 2A is about 4 points. If he goes for 3A and falls, it would only make a difference of 2 points lower than if he went for 2A. But, if he lands 3A, he could be 4-6 points higher than landed 2A. So, worth the risk.
