so yeah... i am missing watching nationals this weekend LOL

so i was looking at podiums photos and .. 5 out of 6 medallists in singles are juniors... crazy isn't it ?
3 out of 3 in men is particularly insane.

btw... today, in 2017, i was in Ottawa for a very special date with my chiddy. will never ever forget that. 4 sal was a bonus (and well nic's 4 loop too)

Cross-posting here:
Dana Sabatini-Speciale / Nicholas Buelow (CAN, (Jr) Ice Dance) and Ashlyn Schmitz / Tristan Taylor (CAN, Pairs) have split.

Dana and Tristan are both on Ice Partner Search: Dana's profile & Tristan's profile.
Oh, and because I don't know if this was known before: Lily Wilberforce/Joshua Dore (Jr pairs, competed at Next Gen earlier this season) have also split, as she's on Ice Partner Search as well.

not surprised at all about Dana and Nicholas... age eligibitly and height differences ...
Ashlyn and Tristan have had a couple tough seasons...
Not sure I know Lily and Josh other than by name for the latter.

For what it's worth..
Piper and Paul are still on the 4CC entry list and are featured on the Press Release on the same Canada website

The Skate Canada website is just as reliable as a politician in electoral campaign making a bunch of promises they will not realize... so it's certainly a mistake.
Piper also just had a story about which nail polish she should choose for 4CC so maybe they meant to remove Lala since they have withdrawn and accidentally removed Psquared.

Jordyn Lewis/Noah McMillan also ended their partnership. They were part of NextGen, but couldn't compete this season due to an injury if I remember correctly?
I came here for this. I’m so sad. I thought they were SO promising last year on the JGP so this makes me really sad. I think @4everchan said that Noah had an injury this season which is why they hadn’t competed so I was also wondering if the injury is the reason for the split. Shame for Noah if that is the case. Jordyn’s post makes it seem like she will continue toskate? I think she has been doing synchro while Noah was injured so who knows if that means she will return to ice dance or stick with synchro.

Sad for my beloved LaLa but then, we want Marjo to skate when she is healthy and not before. I am hoping it will be enough time for home worlds though... because that happens once in a career...
It seems like the Canadian ice dancers can't catch a break. Last year it was Piper and Paul with all the momentum who got hit with Piper's cancer. This year it's Lajoie/Lagha who had so much momentum going at the start of the year I thought they were definitely moving up and now it looks like they've had a pretty serious injury. I hope they can be back at 100% for worlds. Not just for themselves, but with FB/S being such a big question mark, spots for next season are beginning to look like a possible concern.

Funny but if spots are lost, usually it means that the country doesn't need them.(except when a dance spot was lost for last year's worlds).. in this particular case, it could be very true... also, we may not need a spot for piper and paul ... i think they go season by season... they could easily make Montreal worlds their swan song.

If Jordyn wants to continue with Ice Dance, I wonder if she and Christian Bennett would be a good fit.

Both of them have had their partner retire due to serious injuries recently, both will have to move up to Seniors in the next season, both are on the taller side (Jordyn is 175 cm, Christian 187 cm), and both of them are based in Ontario (though London, ON and Toronto are still a bit of a drive away from each other).
It would just be a question of if either of them would be willing to switch coaches, and of course, if they work harmoniously together.

Also, if Ashlynn Schmitz wants to keep doing pairs, and doesn't have a partner lined up, there's a relatively tall (185 cm), if unexperienced Canadian man searching for a partner: Samiir Andjorin, who used to compete in Jr pairs a few years back but has been partnerless for a while.

Thierry Ferland also appears to be at liberty

He's too short for Ashlynn, I think they're probably about the same height.

For a country with so many tall singles skaters, Canada has a remarkable number of short pairs men.
Also Thierry would probably want a stronger partner, closer in age.
With the number of women single skaters, and with the influence of Lia and Fiona... I wouldn't be surprised to see some more movement from singles to pairs within the women.

I also think it's clear Thierry is NOT relocating. (but I may be wrong about this)

I think Spain, for many years, is the cautionary tale for spots...Both of those teams absolutely deserved to be at worlds, in my opinion.

I could see Piper and Paul call it a day if they won worlds this season for sure. I would miss them like crazy. And if the speculation about Papadakis/Cizeron coming back to take another run at an Olympic gold is true, I could especially see some of the current top teams that have been around a long time bow out rather than get knocked down.

The other thing is that Lajoie/Lagha was the unfortunate team left out of worlds last season, and for them not to be able to compete for a second year in a row would be devastating. But of course future health is the most important thing.

And I'm thrilled for Lauriault/Le Gac to be able to skate at 4CC. I love their free dance.

Agree on all fronts. I keep forgetting about Spain but at the same time, we could say the same about Japan... the reality is that if one team cannot place in top ten, then should they have two teams ? Perhaps. The maths sometimes just don't work out.. but in general, it does ;)

If P/C come back, other than the Italians skating at home games, I could see a bunch of senior teams call it a career... including Chock and Bates, Piper and Paul and FBS. With Hawayek-Baker also dealing with concussions complications... The worlds following the Olympics could be a brand new crop... I would suspect P/C and the Italians may not go to worlds that year ... So who is left ? Fear Gibson, LaLa, the younger American teams, the Czech, Lopareva-Brissaud... it will be very interesting for sure.

And possibly some Junior teams (Neset/Markelov, Grimm/Saviskiy, maybe also Tkachenko/Kiliakov) moving up, though how much they can contend is of course dependent on a lot of factors.

If we start looking at the younger teams... we would have to look at B/B, L/Q, DM/LM etc etc... I guess the field remains very very deep.
