Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

Lets be honest here, the biggest problem is the country she represents in todays world state of mind... Otherwise, her 'punishment' would be different...
Because is what you want to believe, I will no try to change your mind, if Russia has a bad reputation is due to it's own fault, but a ban for a ilegal substance doesn't have nothing to do with the country the girl is representing

I know what i know... And by watching the sport for that long i can know clearly if something is a skaters fault, or the coaching team, or the parents, or the die hard fans, or the whole nation... For that matter, Russia has a bad reputation, as German, USA, Kenian or other athletes from the other countries have, only if you research on that subject... As the current world women track and field 100m champion used a prohibited substance, but i guess, it is not a big news for the media to discuss it...

Its hanged, not hung. And yea, she should be banned from competing, not from life. As someone else made examples of what life is: hobbies, education, friendships... she is banned from literally everything how is she not even allowed to just train??

Projecting and zero points made
You are incorrect in your grammar point, as hung is the most versatile past participle of the English verb hang. "Hanged" is used in some English variants to reference killing, but that's about it.
However, there is no killing going on in the Valieva case, and no one is getting hung or hanged. As the CAS statement mentions, it was their conclusion the doping was deliberate and knowing, and that the youthful age of Valieva was irrelevant. There's no death here, but merely a requirement that she not participate in the sport for 4 years. It's possible she'd be unable to affiliate with other skaters, too (this happens in track and field), but I believe the specifics of the ban aren't clear yet. But, no one is getting killed, drawn and quartered, garrotted, crucified, guillotined, water-boarded, lynched, or suspended from a tree: that would indeed be unjust.

Gosh I cant with the internet how does your opening statement just blatantly state my entire point as the exact opposite of what I've said like 10 times and the hivemind just spams +rep I actually dont know dude.

Perhaps a good thing, I am so shocked I cant even be mad just slightly laughing and flabbergasted.

I know that feeling, hon!!!

The ban from skating shows only affects state-sponsored shows (and any other shows with semi-direct ties to sports federations like galas organised by the ISU or ISU members), which luckily for Carolina are almost none of the shows in Europe, and unluckily for Kamila are almost all of the shows in Russia.
What about those shows run by Plushenko or others. including overseas ones (I know there are very few countries Russian shows can go, but he has taken some to China, for instance. On the other hand, the Chinese authorities may not want/approve that.)

I do not understand why in any circumstance an athlete should be banned from training because it literally destroys their life. Just competition ban, yes, Kamila SHOULD BE BANNED FROM COMPETITION. Nobody has told me WHY ANYONE would get banned from training, thats impeding on personal life and its too far and I dont get it.
I think everyone is saying it because your argument makes no sense. What on earth would she be officially/elite training for - alongside all the girls she knows will be able to compete instead of her - if she can't do that or be in shows? What use is such intense training you can't use? If she did keep going at that level, it would to my eyes be highly suspicious, especially given how little we can trust Sambo to not try and fudge the rules at least domestically.

That's really a question and partially at the feet of the Swedish lab that didn't process the test in a timely manner. While it doesn't excuse the doping, had they appropriately handled the test and communicating the results Valieva would have never been at Beijing.

Hopefully that lab error in processing/notification was addressed by WADA to the facility
I couldn’t find a time requirement for them to return results. Do you have a link? I thought it has pretty much been acknowledged that RUSFED dropped the ball here by not prioritizing her samples. That’s their job.

Lol it makes perfect sense and you know it, its not about intense training for competition its that she has no ice time at all, thats her life. She cant even go jump or skate for fun because, well, its her life. You can decide you think she deserves it but fact is theres no legal supporting reason to infringe on her personal life like that outside of pure competition which is what she got popped for. She doesnt have to train 100% and be at prep state, her life is still skating and an athlete of her caliber being forced into a public skating session isnt reasonable.

Even if she was training elite level, "suspicion" doesnt mean anything. The RusFed will either break the rules or they wont, in which case nothing matters anyways.

And either way even if you have a counter argument just say it, like you did, why did the other people all have to just blatantly lie about what I said? Like literally state the opposite of what I did. "I do not want Kamila to get special treatment", meanwhile "you sound like you want Kamila to get special treatment" or whatever like ok.

1st FFKK (or whatever the name is) is deciding their national teams after the Europeans.
2nd All the medalists tested after the Europeans were negative.
Conclusion / I dont see how is that simply ROC or Russada mistake, even i dont like how those and same organizations in the other countries are working... The LAB in Sweden is the one to blame the most for me...
The Russian Federation did not do their due diligence and prioritize it for the lab. Do you have a document that says a timeline requirement for drug results?

She can skate in places where no RUSFED athletes or coaches are present. This is where the tight integration of the Russian system turns out to have a downside. Are there Russian shopping malls that will have a sheet of ice so the general public can do recreational skating? (I’m thinking of places like the infamous Clackamas Town Center rink) Those kinds of venues would not be covered by the ban. She might also be okay getting ice time off-hours at like a purely KHL practice rink, if that hockey team would allow her to rent time.

No I don't. To me (and it appears others) it's a ludicrous argument.

{edited to delete probably inflammatory stuff}
Im not making an argument though, I'm asking for clarification which is yet to be offered. If something is apparent in a rule book then they have the burden of arguing the reason for it and nobody has done so

And nice appeal to consensus thats a really robust standpoint

I think everything has been demonstrated already when people had to put words in my mouth to even make a response. Everybody knows the truth even if it wont come out of their mouths.

1) When your life is competitive figure skating as you say it is for Kamila, you are aware that getting a doping infraction will nix your access to skating. It's a risk that was taken by her and/or her team. You risk getting burned when you play with fire.

2) The reason for the ban (training included) is very simple : it's a question of sports integrity. You cannot have people who have received a doping infraction keep their usual training at their usual venues or any venue where other eligible athletes are training. 1) By respect for clean athletes training there who may not be thrilled having to train with someone who cheated. 2) To keep the reputation and integrity of the sport, in the sense that someone under a suspension for doping, shouldn't be associated with eligible athletes sharing the same coach and medical team. How would that look like ? Seriously. It would give the impression that doping is accepted and correct. 3) To preserve the reputation of the sport for sponsors and fans.

This is why these rules are there. It's not only to punish an offender but to protect everything else.

Apparently, ICO has notified USFSA that USA is Team Gold Medalists, so the idea of a vacated title is over. Will be interesting if/when news breaks concerning the other medals.

Christine Brennan reports:

I’m not sure where the idea of a ’vacated’ Olympic event came from because, unlike the Tour de France, the IOC has a history of being willing to roll down medals infinitely. I mean look at some of the ‘official and we mean it this time’ results from any numbers of Olympic weightlifting events.

The initial shock has worn off now. I watch a lot of sport and have for many years, and for me personally one of the saddest days following sport in my life. Never did I think there could be something worse to happen to her than the cruel timing of what happened mid Olympics. Still a child for another three months as well.

I never thought it was much of a possibility, but it has been discussed because there is a vacated title on the books right now.

When Tonya Harding was stripped of the US title n 1994, they did not reassign the medals. That title remains vacant to this day.
