Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

I have no doubt the Russian federation, the IOC and the ISU have planned for all scenarios including filing appeals which is their right. If an appeal succeeds (as it did here for WADA), then that sets precedents for future cases. I also suspect all parties including Valieva were made aware of the decisions long before they were released to the public giving them time to plan accordingly.
Care to explain why you keep arguing this decision was made long ago over and over? Because I don't see what that has to do with anything.

The Canadians had already hung the bronze medal around their own necks lol.

I can see why the ISU went down their path it means it has no effect on the places below ROC, and logically, Kamila skated there in good faith, ROC picked her in good faith, it is not their fault that the Swedish lab violated the WADA code by not returning the result within the 20 day limit.

Canada just need to let it go, Russia as well. It's a hollow gold for most of the USA team anyway. Had the result been given to Valieva 30 hours earlier after sitting on it for 6 weeks, Valieva would have been replaced and Karen Chen would have easily been beaten by Shcherbakova or Trusova.

In 2023 PanAm games Brazilian Edival Pontes lost his medal because of positive test, but his team (Taekwondo) keep their gold medal

article about this - https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/colu...o-doping-e-brasil-pode-perder-ouro-no-pan.htm

In 2020 Youth Olympic, in FIGURE SKATING competition of mixed MOC Ukrainian pair was DQ for doping, but their team keep bronze medal

So Russia have enough precedents to show to keep gold medals.
That would be the same Russia whose 4x400 in 2008 was later DQed entirely over Tatyana Firova‘a failed drug test?

Precedent changed going on 20 years ago.

I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night I eventually was able to sleep for a couple of hours, but I feel devastated still. It's kind of embarrassing and can't admit it in real life of course, but I can't help but feel her pain. It's one of if not the most unjust things to happen to someone in sport in my lifetime. It's the same feeling as a sudden death in a way.

Maybe when the release the details of the ruling it will make sense, but I don't know how a 15 year old swimmer caught multiple times is allow to give an explanation which amounted to shrugging her shoulders and saying it was contamination or sabotage I don't know (does not even try to offer an explaination), she receives a reprimand and WADA accepts this, but Kamila for something very similar a once off positive test of a trace amount it's a punishment that would be punitive for an adult. I know most people couldn't care less and would give her 40 years if they could, but where is the consistency?

Unfortunately this is why some people start to suspect it is political because how can they demand 4 years for one 15 year old girl, but accept a reprimand for a swimmer caught for doping on two separate occasions.

I completely agree. Very, very sad news :'(

Nice going ISU you had a slam dunk and finally do the right thing and you still screwed it up. Only good thing is that Russia being awarded the Bronze probably feels like a humiliation for Russia and i doubt their team will show up for the medal ceremony.

The sheer audacity is almost admirable. ROC needs to quit the nonsense before their clownery backfires.

They already lost if part of their defense is the results of other cases without understanding the context. The context of their own case is in the insignificant detail that Valieva’s results are null and void beginning from December 2021.
it's just complete delusion. i hope it backfires on them.

What more do you want? Valieva the greatest talent in history has no results from age 15-19 in her peak, Russia stripped of a gold they would have won just as easily with Shcherbakova or Truova if the result WADA sat on for 6 weeks (they had to return it within 20 days but didn't violating their own code) was returned a mere 30 hours earlier.

You should be dancing in the streets celebrating, popping champagne -- THIS IS YOUR MOMENT!!! Russian skating has been humiliated, don't complain enjoy it. This is what you have waited for!!

Instead you're upset that Maddie Schizas is denied an Olympic medal.

You can't win them all.

It was set before she popped. You think they just going to erase the entire memory of her from earth over this?

Yeah, I don't know what some of these people are arguing. Of course she's going to keep the Rostelecom Cup world records and all her results from before the positive test. The ISU would have to strip all the results of Carolina Kostner for aiding and abetting her drug cheat boyfriend if they went down this path.

It would mean any athlete who tests positive to a trace amount and is suspended would have their entire results of their career removed.

She's already giving back all of her prizemoney from the Russian championships 2022 onwards, do they want every trophy since 2012 handed back as well?

I thought many of these people would be happy this is their day to celebrate, but even a 4 year ban and Russian stripped of team gold is not enough.

You're making it really hard not to take potshots.:coffee:

Valieva, the greatest talent in history?
She had one senior season, was found doping and her programs were horrid Danny G programs.

And Canada should have that medal. The ISU is just sucking up to Russia as usual. I dread the day they come back to international competitions when we have to deal wit hall the drama all over again.

Longevity doesnt equal talent, greatest by all objective metrics is something else, I'd say Yuna, for ladies... but are there actually people who dont think she was the most purely talented? And calling In Memoriam a horrid program is just dishonest, you do not believe that. Everybody raved about her before consensus told them to change their opinion.

You are forced to comment in their paradigm too, its the best we can do, or you will get dinged for conspiracy. I'm on tier 100 cordiality and still 1vX with only one person even trying to actually discuss honestly. People literally lie about what I said, get the consensus anyways and then go silent. And they still want to drill you into the ground. I told you in messages, eternal hunger, its blind, we all know.

Is she also prohibited from training or just banned from domestic and international competitions? (Sorry I just found out the news)

Surely her record will not stand--will it?

Her Rostelecom Cup world records will stand for many years, the short program is 87 that can be broken you would need someone with a perfect 3A and incredible skating skills, but the free skate and overall score won't. They'd have to change the scoring rules, but it would still stand forever under old scoring rules.

The ISU have not given a favour to a Russian trained skater all season. Please, stop with the conspiracies.

Kamila in the 2022-23 season was incredible, despite a difficult puberty retained the 4T and actually improved it. The 170 at the free skate of the Russian championships was 100% on merit it was an amazing skate, the highest free skate in the world for the season (and probably this season as well -- so far).

Kamila's Girl on the Ball is a figure skating standard, and even her Exogenesis is a beautiful program that brought her many medals. In Memoriam is absolute perfection.

I can't believe that you aren't celebrating 4 years she got the maximum. Enjoy your moment. You won!
