2024 Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy is the fifth event of the 2024-25 ISU Grand Prix series and is scheduled to take place November 15-17, 2024. The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series consists of six international senior invitational events and culminates with the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December.

Competitors collect points in their individual Grand Prix events towards the qualification for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Only the top six skaters/teams in each discipline can qualify for the Final.

Skaters are seeded and invited to the six Grand Prix of Figure Skating events based on the results obtained at the 2024 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. Skaters/teams who have placed first through sixth in each of the four categories are seeded and assigned to two events. Skaters/teams who have placed seventh through 12th at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships are selected for two ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events. Skaters with a top 24 Season Best Scores (from the 2023-24 season), as well as those placed in the top 24 of the ISU World Standings, can also be invited.

In order for a skater/team to be eligible to compete at an ISU Grand Prix event, a minimum total score must have been achieved in the 2023-24 or current 2024-25 season in an ISU event (Grand Prix, Junior Grand Prix, Championships) or a Challenger Series event. Exceptions apply to host country skaters, previously ranked skaters or split ranked couples who return with new partners.

Invitational for Synchronized Skating:
Synchro Tour Finland – Short Program

So they have to put synchro everywhere and probably because of this FD is on Sunday. It means I will not go, because I will not stay (pay much for) another night at hotel and take a day off from work just because of traveling, do not want pay all-event ticket either if I will miss FD. Better stay at home and hope something can be watched through Youtube or TV. Chances are still possible. Tickets are not for sale yet, but should soon be.

That FD on Sunday threw a bit of chaos in my initial bookings, but I planned my annual 2-weeks leave at work including the week of Finnish GP and the next one where Warsaw Cup takes place.
These will be some crazy two weeks on the road, but I hope to see/meet as much of my GSer friends as possible during my annual Finnish vacation (I love it there and I will be coming back if possible :))

I talked with my boss today and maybe I can arrange to be out office also Monday. I am still thinking. Maybe I will change my mind and try to go to place.

Finland's TBD spots go to Janna Jyrkinen and Olivia Lisko as expected, as they were 1st and 2nd at test skates.

No gala listed - is it unusual for a major event not to have a gala?

Yes, it is unusual. Finns' needs to put synchro everywhere goes too far. I gave them feedback that is a mistake not to have a gala.
Edit: ID timing is so late that I decided not to go. I don't stay another night just because of 10 id pairs, I would have stayed if gala was there but in this case, no.

I wonder what skaters think if there is no gala? I think quite often they are excited when they have been invited. Well, I will save money and maybe go to watch EC on January instead if my working situation allows it. This time again I watch Finland's GP through TV.

Maybe Tallinn would be better host next time also for GP?

Edit: I understand the time schedule, but do not quite understand the decision to skip the gala if it is really so. The most people in the audience come from Helsinki/Espoo/Vantaa and nearby area of those cities and the schedule is mostly made thinking about them. There can be last minutes ticket buyers who live nearby and many go to watch to ID and people go to watch Synchro. Popularity och synchro comes because there will be so many other synchro skaters and their family members.

Edit2: Synchro is removed from Sunday and seems it is only on Monday. It is not scheduled on the Fed's competition calender any more either. But no gala mentioned either at the moment.

Do you think, there is any chance that gala will be added? I love the ID line up and we have initially rebooked the hotel to stay a day longer and see the ID on Sunday and possibly also the gala but the more I think about it, the less I'm sure about that decision.

We will see tomorrow when tickets are for sale. It is just a decision by organizers to have a gala or not? I have still not finally decided not to be there but if the schedule is how it is announced now, only dance on Sunday my decision is no. But if there is gala and prices are reasonable, I may think again if to go and stay until Monday.

The start of the ticket sales has been postponed until August 21st. I heard from the Finnish Fed that ISU has not yet confirmed the competition schedule. I wonder why. I also heard that the omission of the Gala is due to the new policy of ISU. Some of the GP organizers leave it out this season and the rest next year. So maybe Finland is not the only one without a gala, I have not checked that. In addition, there will be no All Event tickets for the Finnish GP at all, only day tickets.

Thank you TT_Fin na Lyyli, I guess I will play the waiting game until Wednesday when tickets are out and decide then based on schedule/price. Another bad news with no All Event ticket. :(

Let´s hope the tickets prices will be reasonable. The seats on the upper rows should at least be clearly cheaper than the ones close to the ice. I hope you end up coming to Helsinki! The line-up is great here I think.

IIRC Skate Canada also skips gala this season...

wow, I feel sorry for the skaters affected. They won't be getting money for their gala performances. And for the audience members who were looking forward to the gala.
And now also no all events... With Finlandia Challenger, having an all event ticket meant being able to access practices. So if that's the same for this GP, it means very little chance for fans to greet skaters from relative proximity.

BTW and thanks in advance for anyone willing to educate me: what is the new rule about galas/exhibitions? Is there now a choice from organisers' standpoint whether to have gala or not and previously it was mandatory?

Wow, if there won't be any ability to attend official practices before competition, I'm already crying to bring back Espoo rules nd organisation...what a bummer if those day tickets won't grant accessibility for practice before competition. Gah, if that's the case, I would even pay separately for practice tickets, just sell them! Grrrr....
