Kazuki Tomono

Thank you for sharing! Here's the tweet:

It's so fun to see the similarities, but also the differences between them - they share similar interests such as interior design and fashion, but they go about it in different ways! Dai seems to be more emotional and 'extreme', and Kazuki being more cautious. I think it's this interplay of similarities and differences that makes them such an interesting duo ☺️

Meanwhile, Daiichi Juken posted these pictures showing the design of the TOMONO CURRY package. So cool!

Daiichi Juken tweeted that they were going to a business meeting with media people in Tokyo... I wonder if it's related to Kazuki? 👀

Speaking of Kazuki, where is he and when is he going to choreograph his free... He's competing in less than two weeks! :drama:

Soooooo World Figure Skating Magazine released more info about Kazuki's talkshow on 18 August:

Remember I lost my mind when I saw they would host the event in Ginza? I'm even more blown away by the venue: https://grapeejapan.com/188939

It's an enormous beer hall that's also a heritage building, and I read that World Figure Skating magazine has hosted an event there before: Nathan Chen's book launch. Yes, Nathan Chen, the reigning Olympic gold medallist 🙀

The tickets are also not particularly cheap, about $63 per event? Although it includes a souvenir and a picture with Kazuki. Not to mention there are two events, on prime time slots, on the Sunday after the Obon holiday.

So... yeah. I'm absolutely gobsmacked by the sheer scale of this 'party' 🤯

Some of you might have seen that JSF cancelled Japan Open this year. No explanations given, but it's likely it has to do with finances, which to me suggests perhaps they will also be stingy with international assignments after all 😢

I keep thinking how amazing is that, in this context, Kazuki has managed to be busier than ever, expanding his range of merch and activities despite a having had a less than ideal season. I know it's frustrating at times when it seems he is doing too many things and not focusing 100% on competition, but figure skating is a sinking ship and he is right in trying to build his brand as much as he can before he retires.

I hope that Kazuki Tomono will get all the assignments he needs to optimise his season.
At least, let's be cynical, as he was less likely to be invited, he's not a direct loser from this cancellation.
Yes, it seems that he's doing well in the current trend of lesser popularity of competitive Figure Skating. I would say, he deserves it!

Guys, tickets sold out in 3 minutes!!!

THREE. MINUTES.

The demand for him is unbelievable, if JSF can't capitalise on that, it's because they're stupid.

So, it seems that the organisers of Kazuki's event on 18 Aug asked for the dress code to be casual (important to clarify this since the location/venue is so posh) and they asked attendees to wear something in TOMONO RED 🟥
The people who got tickets seem to be having fun planning their outfits!

Meanwhile, the full version of Hyoen was broadcast today, once again it's nice to see so many people praising Kazuki's acting and singing skills 🥹

Well, the outfit wouldn't be a problem for me as I do have a couple of tees in that color... I just need someone to gift me the ticket 🙈
Anyways, I'm here to ask if Kazuki had, or hadn't, been invited to Japan Open before it got canceled? I can't remember. But I hope he won't be losing a competition.

Also, it's been announced that Kazuki will be leading an exhibition/skating class/talkshow event in Osaka on 28 July!

This will be the first opportunity for the Japanese fans to see his new programme live! Sadly, I don't think there will be a broadcast, and fans will not be allowed to post pictures or clips on social media 😭

I saw this report on my twitter-timeline - Kazuki debuted his FS by Lori!

#Tomono Kazuki's new FS with Lori's choreography is amazing. In the first half, the lyrical tune changes and he just dances and dances. Tomono fans have high expectations. It seems he put all his experience up to now into it.
He also showed off a bit of the Bourne choreography from his SP, which is sure to get the crowd excited as well.

It was a really fun show, with a GN* that Tomono, Oshima and Kishina made in a hurry, even though it was handmade.
Tomono-kun wants to create more opportunities like this in the future. I will keep an eye on Tomono-kun, who is making steady efforts to promote skating, including skating lessons.
* Does anybody know what GN means?

Kazuki participated for the first time in the 2021 JO event, which was held as a domestic event due to covid. At the time, there were only two teams and his team lost lol

But then he was invited again to last year's event, as Japanese bronze medallist, alongside Kari, Koshiro and Satoko. This time, he delivered a beautiful rendition of Halston and helped Team Japan win gold! So, it's bittersweet to think that he was there for the potentially last JO ever (unless they decide to bring it back in the future).

This year, he was unlikely to be invited, given that he didn't place very high at last year's Nats. So he is likely not missing a competition due to this cancellation.

Haha GN means Group Number! They each performed their new programmes, and also a group number (not clear but likely choreographed by Kazuki himself.

I'm SO surprised Kazuki debuted his new free, and have so many questions... Did he go to Canada, was Lori in Japan, or did they do it virtually? 🙀 In any case, he described his new free as 'Kazuki Tomono's full size lunchbox' LMAO, as it contains all the characteristics of his skating. It makes me happy that he feels this programme is very 'him', despite the fact that it's the first time he works with Lori, and Lori is also working with so many Japanese skaters this season.

As for the SP, he performed part of it as an encore, and said it's very 'Shae'. He revealed that initially they had decided on a different song, but when they heard 'Tschegue' on the ice, they felt like 'this is it!' and changed last minute.

Apart from that, the event also featured a skating class, and some fans that arrived early got to see Kazuki practising. They said that Kazuki's jumps are looking even more beautiful, and he landed 3A, 4T, 4S and 4T3T with ease, although he didn't include all the jumps in the free.

Here's a short snippet of Kazuki's new free (that twizzle!), group number and some pictures, from Hiraike-sensei IG:

One thing that got my attention is that the stands were full, which is particularly impressive considering that The Ice Aichi is also happening today. It really shows that it's not really rocket science: if you offer a high-quality event focusing on skating for an affordable price, people will come! I can't help but think that, in this sense, this event channelled the spirit of Kassouya, and in fact I also saw that some Dai fans also attended this event as a way of supporting the Kassouya boys, which made me very happy 🥹

I also want to share this touching thread written by a fan who attended Sunday's event. As someone who has been saved by Kazuki several times (albeit from a distance), I can totally relate:

It's a very personal thing, but it's been really tough for the last six months or so, and it's hard to keep working, even though I'm trying my best, I'm not getting any work done, my life is being neglected and I'm falling apart both physically and mentally, so I changed my job.
I've been working too much for the past three years without New Year's holidays or GW [Golden Week], so why don't I take this paid holiday and go to Hokkaido?

I was planning to travel around Hokkaido by myself in late July because people around me told me to. But I couldn't even make an itinerary or book a flight or hotel. I was halfway through the preparations, but I cried and canceled everything. It's all over. I can't even plan something so fun.

I think it was around June 30th that I gave up hope. I couldn't think about my plans for the future, and just thinking about it made me panic. I was on the edge of my seat, but on my days off, when I had the energy, I would go to the rink. When I was on the ice, I could breathe deeply. I can't explain it well, but it was easier to breathe.

When the information about this event was released on July 4th, I thought I could go to Osaka. It was the place where I had traveled alone just before things started to get tough, and I knew it was a warm place. Above all, I wanted to watch my favourite person skate (not only for lessons, but also for the unveiling of this season's new program).

What's more, if I could be taught my favorite sport, skating, by the person I love, I thought to myself, I'd go all the way to Osaka by myself. From there, things moved at an incredibly fast pace. I booked the Shinkansen and the hotel, and I started thinking about places I wanted to go and foods I wanted to eat. I was so motivated that I even surprised myself.

And today, as I sit in the bathroom of a business hotel, tears won't stop, I think back to the words my loved one gave me at the end of the event: "Don't try too hard, don't strain yourself, just have fun." "It'll be okay," "I'll try my best," "I'll do it," "Let's do our best" - these are the words I use every day.

I felt like I was instantly lifted from the curse I had been putting on myself for the last six months. Thank you, my light. The thread is longer than I expected. I thought maybe I should have written it on note, but I think tweeting it would have been better because it would have put too much force into it. Thank you to everyone who read to the end.
