Shoma Uno

Maybe he'll take a break from the show next year to do something totally different. It won't go anywhere so I am sure he'll go back to it again at some point if he doesn't next year. Maybe he'll do more character shows like One Piece. Imagine him playing all sorts of characters from the good guys, bad guys and even side characters. I'm suddenly picturing him playing a classic detective character with the hat and brown trench coat, a villain in a suit like Crocodile in One Piece (not actually being him though because he is Luffy), a James Bond like character in a suit...
Actually, with the cancellation of Japan Open, it's completely possible that the worry he expressed is about The Ice itself continuing to exist. I heard rumors that the ticket sales weren't very good for the Nagoya leg. Then again, I don't know how true those rumors are or whether the Tokyo leg had good ticket sales or not.

Hi everyone, I would like to ask a question. I will attend the next week's Sorcerer's Apprentice ice show. But it will be my first ice show. So, I am curious whether there would be a place to leave gifts for skater.
So sorry. I meant to answer you and got distracted. There has been no official word on this, but if you have a Twitter account (x I guess it is now, I keep forgetting), you might want to contact @christrevisan. He is affiliated with the Shompery skating school and was very responsive when people were asking questions about tickets. https://x.com/christrevisan

My guess would be no, but that's just a guess.

IMO The Ice was in a difficult position this year because their initial announcement for all-male skaters casting was controversial, and they basically just did minimum promoting and marketing the event since then (probably they know they were in the wrong and didn't want to bring that into attention too much). I think some fans chose to go to Tokyo instead of Aichi because not everyone has the money to travel, and the Aichi venue is also pretty far (and when next to Ghibli Park, you bet people will choose to go to Ghibli Park if they can). In Tokyo there are more non-skating fans going to their first ice show for the first time, so that's something, and the insanely expensive VIP tickets did sell. Is it enough to set off the costs? Maybe, maybe not, but I'm not thinking too much about it.

I think beyond Shoma, some ice shows will have to choose between lowering their ticket prices and making them more accessible and easier to purchase to allow non-hardcore skating fans to start watching them, or continue milking the hardcore fans for every drop of money, which is what they're doing right now. That is not sustainable, and I hope they start rethinking their production.

I hope it doesn’t get cancelled. It’s one of the best shows.

I thought they were just trying to be different by having an all male cast. There may not have been as many ladies this year in the show, but it was still amazing from the videos and images. But I can see why it was controversial. How expensive could the tickets be?

My friend said 50,000 yen ($325 USD) at the Tokyo performance. Not sure where that is in the arena though. Is that front row or 20th row. And people complained because the all-event tickets for Worlds were $450-$750. Sheesh!
I’m just guessing but I would think that front row seats to a show would be more than $100. For The Ice I wouldn’t mind paying that price for a front row seat especially if I could take videos, photos and do a meet and greet after. It would be totally worth every penny, but that’s just me.

The most expensive for Aichi is 28,000 yen so it converts to 180 USD per show, but this one has no issue, it almost always sells out. If anything, fans are getting disgruntled that it's being charged for the first and second row of the premium seat, since the second row has worse visibility than the first row for the same price. But the second most expensive one is around 160 USD (24,000 yen) and that's the majority of the overall seats, which can be a bit too steep for a non-hardcore fan, especially with the weak yen. Even for skating fans themselves.

For Tokyo, there's a lot of expensive seats with various perks offered: the front row seat, as discussed, is around USD 365 per show (50,000 yen), there's also a VIP package of around USD 850 for 2 shows (130,000 yen). The camera seats which was USD 850 for one show. But, Tokyo does have more variety of seats and ticket prices, so I think overall it was better attended than Aichi.

With travels and lodgings, it adds to quite a lot. And the 24,000 yen tickets range are quite the weak link IMO, but they make up most of the seats after the front row. So that's going to be something to think about going forward.

I think the controversial part about the casting is just it's really one viral tweet / tiktok away from general public misunderstanding and casual outrage on why they decided to invite just men's singles skaters and not invite any women's singles skaters. That would have been another problem entirely. Not that an all-male skating group / show isn't new, there are show groups in Japan that consist of fully male skaters, but not the way it was announced here by The Ice... which clearly targeted the rich hardcore fans by giving them the male skaters they're more invested with personally. And considering that it's better to get people who never watch skating to try watching the show, that possible misunderstanding wouldn't help matters.

It also really must be noted that Shoma has been in a lot of shows this year: Stars on Ice, Prince Ice World (Tokyo, Shiga, Yokohama, Kagoshima), The Ice, Champery, Friends on Ice and OPOI. And Prince Ice World Nagasaki early next year. And add to it there are fans who went to Montreal for Worlds which is a quite expensive trip for them. I think even the most dedicated fan would find it hard to go to all of them and pay for all the tickets, which is normal.

Meet and Greet are always fun. This fan cracks me up talking about how nervous she got. I think most people do feel like that! I bought the Meet and Greet for the Friday Shompery show, but I'll be surprised if Shoma is there.

Good luck, I hope Shoma will appear for you! (Perhaps you could get an autograph? 🥺)

No signatures for me personally. I'd like to get him to sign the Sho banner that travels all over the world. I'm going to bring it with. We'll see what happens. I have his signature on a JPN flag already.
That would be really cool for him to sign! 😊

Shoma's autograph is still missing from my autograph collection, though...just saying. 😅

It is now confirmed that Shoma will not attend the medal ceremony on August 7 in Paris due to schedule conflicts 😔 He will skate at the Champery ice show L'Apprenti Sorcier on August 8-9.

The rest of the Japanese team will attend.

Shoma's comment: "I am happy that the team worked together to achieve this result and I will cherish it as one of my great memories."

^^^This breaks my heart. As I watch the Paris Olys and hear the audiences going totally bonkers, I can't help but think of our favorites skating in a close-to-silent arena. Such a shame in a sport where the skaters feed off the cheers, rhythmic clapping, and support of the audience. To not have family, friends, and fans in the stands. Of course it was like that in many events, but then to be robbed of the moment on the podium. Sigh. Who said life is fair?! Sorry for the mini-rant. :ot: Still, happy for Japan to get its first team medal. I hope they are well represented. Maybe Sho can send Emma to get his medal!!! 🐩 :console:

Man, I'm a little bit saddened by this development. (This means no chance of a last-minute trip to Paris for me...😔) I'm guessing he'll probably get his medal via airmail...I do hope we get some photos of him wearing it after the ice show is over!
