2024 CS Denis Ten Memorial Challenge: Info and pre-game chat

I don't think the mens field is particularly strong for this event. I'm struggling to identify five skaters who would be likely to finish above him?
well the home multiquadster boy Shaidorov for sure (i'd put him in first) and probably Egadze too, many others are fine cacti but so he's Daniel and we don't know what shape he's in

Yes, Shaidorov is my pick for the win. Egadze should be able to podium unless he has a bad skate. Martynov and Litvintsev have the potential to do well but are inconsistent. That's still only four, and I'm not sure I'm confident that they could all have better skates than Daniel Grassl. I'll probably put Grassl in third on my predictions. I'd be really surprised if he wasn't in the top 5 in that field. It's probably a good choice of competition for his return. Even if he doesn't have his quads back in competition shape, he could probably get the CTES for Euros and Worlds.

they usually give out nice scores here, unlike at some GPs (Daniel has two). i cross my fingers, of course i want him to do well but i also don't want him to feel too much pressure

A little more info about times.

I agree with your take on this event. Shaidorov always impresses me and he is steady, Egadze always lives up to his name and often seems to over achieve his best scores. Litvinsev runs hot and cold. Right now he seems to have had a slower start so far, why I don't know. His more serious style does not bring out his natural "tiger" spunk and I hope he can have a more positive outing this week. Daniel Grassl - so talented, such a high possible ceiling, but total unknown as far as where he is in his training. I think I will not make up my mind on this race until the last minute. For number 5 I cannot decide without watching more video between Daniel Martynov & Semen Daniliants. Goku Endo has posted a big score earlier this season domestically Pasadena Open 230.26 on 9/15/2024 and may be a wild card.

Interesting that Grassl is back and very few questions. I can think of a female they hounded for two years (and still gets e-bullied), but maybe it's different for men they don't have to explain themselves. I don't think Grassl should be e-bullied I am sure there is a reasonable explanation, but it's all very secretive and everyone is afraid to question anything. It does show that the authorities can keep confidential information secret when it suits them.

I think Samodelkina can win this, it will be close because the judges won't completely destroy Gubanova as always given the composition of her competitors. They will probably give her the biggest scores of the year, and Samo the biggest scores of the year. Samodelkina's skate before the hockey match looked good she did her short program and completed the combo. I think she looks physically in better condition since Ankara and this will only improve over the next 16 months until the Olympics. She's going to make a legitimate push for an Olympic medal, if not gold if ultra-c returns.

I'm so impressed by the consistency of Samodelkina's jumps coming off such a break because in the 2022-23 in Russia she was struggling on 3-3 combos (and everything). This environment and coaching culture is working well for her. If she gets to world's this year I think she'll be top 6.

These choices really intrigue me. A lot of thought has been put into interesting programs. I am taking a big chance a putting Daniel at the top of my picks. What else has he had too do but train right now? He should be healthy and ready, if a bit nervous. The interesting programs will help with this I think. Of course this could go badly for me and he finishes behind Shaidorov - I would still get points.

I agree with you about Samoldelkina. Her jumps are big and fully rotated. She also has a full catalog which puts her and Gubanova in a group by themselves. Gubanova will have to work for this one.
