2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

They have been better this season about sending skaters out, that's why I'm surprised they didn't for Zagreb. They kept it on the Events page (along with NHK after there were no entries there.)

Hopefully they make use of the Senior and Junior Bs in the second half of the season.

The weird part is we have so many men and ladies who are all currently at the same level. So why not send them all out to see who does better internationally. Currently they have a chosen few that get sent out more then others. And just sending them to one event and expecting good results is not fair to them. Or sending them to a lower level event and them do OK then send them to a big event like a GP and expect similar results.

I agree but to me, the second half of the season is "candies post-national" for the deserving skaters. It's great that they get the opportunity to compete for sure, but I would prefer they'd get it BEFORE nationals ;) to make sure they are better prepared and then, can shine at the championships.. or even have the scores for the championships.

I guess it will be a non-issue as I don't expect big surprises for 4CC and Worlds selection.

and finally, i like how he said

Back flip : easier than a triple toe but hard to learn and dangerous.

i think fans need to understand that some of these moves are not that hard but are very dangerous.
I liked that he mentioned the need for safety gear for the coach as well. I've seen gymnastics coaches get kicked in the head by pupils learning new stunts. It would be even worse when the pupil has blades attached.

I know it wasn't Sara-Maude's best skate but like you say she did medal. I could see her sort of start doubting herself part way through her program. This will hopefully push her to go all out next time out and rise her international profile.

Kurt Browning’s thoughts regarding the state of Canadian men. Thoughts??

I watched it yesterday and thought what he was saying in the end about the competition mindset applied to Malinin. Also, was surprised that he called Adam a balanced skater, not Kagiyama. I honestly didn't really hear much discussion there about Canadian men that are currently skating, just all those past greats.

Sara-Maude Dupuis won her first international medal, a Bronze at Tallinn Challenger.
She can be added to the list of Canadian senior skaters to have medaled abroad before home.
I am worried that it will preclude Shiryaeva from being considered for National team or competition selection since medals > score.

National team is the top 3 + anyone who gets a GP. Uliana can still make the team. I don't trust Kaiya will fix her URs anytime soon though she fixed her spins BIG time since moving to TCC. Maddie is improving. Then, there are 4-5 other women in contention, including Uliana. It will certainly be very interesting. I think women will be the most interesting discipline at Nationals this year. Reminds me of when I went to Ottawa, 2017 and it was a tight fight between Kaetlyn, Gabby and Alaine...
Those were the results.. EPIC

It'll depend on the second half of the season. Podium at Nationals is automatically on the National team, then it comes down to the Grand Prix assignments. They may give her a host assignment based on having the second highest SB of the Canadian women at the moment, or be able to get her a non-host assignment.

Heh, Gilles and Poirer still skate.

Well, last time they left her off the podium with basically all the same women skating, so I have no high hopes for Canadian Nationals.

But she's improved though... and others have not necessarily improved. I don't see Hetty making it to the podium this year.

Oh thanks for the reminded of the days of Kaetlyn, Gabby and Alaine. They thankfully pushed each other in the best ways. That is why I though Maddie would come back stronger this year after losing to Kaiya. Felt so bad for Alaine that she missed the Olympics. Still feel she should have been sent over Larkyn. Alaine may have had a bad Nationals but she better rep and potential to score better.

Roman's short program from Tallinn Trophy (his music is included):

Sara-Maude's free skate hasn't been uploaded yet, but her reaction to her medal is on Twitter 🥹
