Glenn is doing so well and I hope she keeps the momentum going into the second half of the season.

Chiba and Kim did better here than at previous events, so that's a good sign to come.

What are your thoughts on the Women's event?

Amber! Amber! Amber! :bsplit::points: I love that she's persevered, after years of striving to reach her potential. She's been called "so talented ... if only.." so many times. And finally her mental component is becoming more strong. She's the first USA woman to win 2 grand prix events in the same season since Ashley Wagner. :party2:

Amber also wears her heart on her sleeve. I noticed yesterday that she connects emotionally with me in a powerful way, even through the computer screen. Great technique, which she has, is admirable but way better when it's in service of emotionally connecting through movement and expression and heart.

And Mone Chiba! What a gorgeous program of skating, what beautiful expression she has as well. I enjoyed her program thoroughly.

This will be an unpopular take, but I found all three Japanese women somewhat over marked at this event. Amber deserved a larger margin of victory. And why did the tech panel completely ignore Sumiyoshi's cheated lutzes?

I think Chaeyeon deserved the silver overall, and while I am not a fan of her skating at all, Kimmy Respond deserved 5th place. Even Mark, who can remain impressively neutral, alluded to as such.

Schizas as stagnated, same old same old. Bring on the Medland-Spence era, please.

This event was generously scored for most everyone except for Mone Chiba. She got a mystery q in the short where she should have had a bigger lead over Amber. And even with a fall, her PCS should have been significantly higher than Amber's in the LP. Skating right after each other, it was glaring how much better Chiba's skating skills, upper body carriage and gracefulness were compared to Amber. I understand they want Americans to succeed, but the pushing of Amber this year is too obvious.

I disagree. I think there has been a small but clear "Mie Hamada bonus" this season. It is of course not even in the same universe as the Eteri bonus, but it has been consistent.

Nothing would please me more than to provide a statistical analysis to prove my point, but my adding calculator is in for repairs.

Finally, PCS is more than skating skills. Presentation and composition matter.

As for me, what I really think is that the ISU is not for anybody or against anybody. Why would they be? What possible reward accrues to the ISU if students of Eteri Tuberidze or of Mie Hamada win a medal or don't win a medal?

Chiba is a superior skater to Amber. Amber has a triple axle and good charisma. I don't mind that Amber won, but Im just talking about skating ability. Amber has never been an especially talented skater, and she isnt now. Chiba is extremely talented. To be clear Im talking about pure skating ability here, nothing about this particular competition.

To me, Amber is still a work in progress. She has come a long way, still has a ways to go. Is she on a trajectory to peak at the perfect moment next year?

Well, nobody knows. That's why we have competitions.
