Hi, all! A few months ago I posted about my Risport Royal Pros. After much trial and error, I finally got the lacing down and I've never felt more confident in a boot. However, as I have progressed in my skating, I have started to notice bumps growing on the backs of my heels. My primary care doctor believes they may be "pump bump"/ Haglunds Deformity, but I am currently waiting to get an appointment with a podiatrist to confirm what they are. They don't hurt when touched, I often forget they're there when I'm not skating.

In the meantime, I have been wearing gel pads which have alleviated the pressure and have pretty much gotten rid of any pain. My concern is though, I did not have any issues with bumps until I started learning sit spins and loop jumps. I'm very conflicted because I really do like how Risport fits my feet, but after reading many posts it seems it might not be the best brand for me. I have tried Jacksons and they are way too wide for my feet.

TLDR: My current boots have given me bumps on my heels. I am a Pre-Bronze adult skater, leveling up to Bronze. I am working on my loop jump and my sit spin and camel spin. I am 5'10 and 165 lbs. I got my Risports at Polar Skate Shop in NJ, but am based in DC. I have been to Fairfax Ice Area to get fitted, but I wasnt happy with the sizing job. I'm pretty willing to drive anywhere to try a fitter. Anyone have any brand recommendations? I am also willing to invest in a pair of custom skates.

Thank you in advance!

Hiya, for what it's worth I also found that Royal Pros aggravated my Haglund's deformities. I had already developed the bumps previously due to ill-fitting boots, but they grew faster and got more inflamed with the Risports.

I think it depends on the shape of your heel. My fitter said the Risport heel counter curved inward too sharply at the top of my heel bone, so it was putting pressure directly on the bumps. Those bumps formed in the first place because of excessive heel movement within the boot. What worked for me were Jacksons (shallower heel pocket) in a split width (to lock down my narrow heels while leaving room for the wider ball of foot).

What worked for me might not work for you though, especially if you find Jacksons too wide. I think trying a different fitter, who can evaluate your foot shape better, would help a lot. Hopefully the other posters can weigh in with some US-based suggestions for you :)

Happy New Year! That's actually really interesting to know. I hadn't heard of a split width before, so I will have to look more into that as an option! I measured my feet and learned my heel is slightly more narrow than my foot, which might be the cause of the issue in addition to how the Risport boot is curved. Thanks so much!!

May I ask if you were happy with your experience with Polar Skate Shop?
