Skaters and coaches among victims in DC plane crash

https://youtu.be/5Oxmg5oW-VE?si=xP6StiYZM5y2vTJi (NBC news report on the tragedy of the plane crash and its impact on the US Figure skating world). This tragic and this comes so soon after the announcement of Mr Dick Button’s passing away. Both announcements have really impacted the tight community of figure skating….its heart breaking - stay safe everyone.

Not trying to be off-topic, but there has apparently been another plane crash in the US (no skaters, but still innocent victims, a medevac?)... so soon after this one that I just wanted to give my thoughts and sympathy to all our Americans, for whom this is an additional shock and grief, on the forum.

Yes. I could not believe it.

My skating fandom has become a big part of my life. After this tragedy, I thought I needed to take a break from skating and Golden Skate, and I did - for a little while. Before the disaster, I was excited about European Championships. After, I couldn’t bring myself to watch it.

But the more I thought about how we wished we had more time with those who were lost, the more I became convinced that the lost ones who loved skating so greatly would want everyone to continue to give their love to skating. I’m just a fan who can’t even skate, and all I do is sit on the other side of a computer screen. Nobody knows I’m there. But these people, these artists and athletes, deserve to be seen and appreciated. They want to reach out and draw our eyes their way, touch our hearts, and inspire other human beings they will never know. We never know how many times we will get to see our favorites out there on the ice, and we never know when someone we haven’t seen before will capture our hearts. I want to remember to cherish these precious moments that we have with all the skaters who are still here. So last night I sat down to watch EC replays, starting with the first group.

So take time if you need it, but please find your way back 🙏 ❤️‍🩹

What ccan anyone say or do at a time like this. It doesn't really matter why, who, what - the fact is these people are gone. In death we are learning about them that they are real people full of life and vigor before tragedy struck. I was shocked one writ up on the victims had no idea Vadim and Evgenia were parents to one of the top male American skaterrs (Max) and that they were world champions. I hope they recover all the bodies to allow the families to properly grieve and have closure. This is so tragicc though. It is numbling. All of them were young and full of dreams even those in their 50's - still so young and so much life to live. RIP skating friends you will be missed.

A GoFundMe has been started for Max in memory of Genia and Vadim. I saw the link in Andrew Torgashev's Instagram stories. Not sure whether to post the link here or not.

EDIT to add the link:
