Legacy on Ice: Benefit to Support AA Flight 5342 Victims

Slight off-topic, but are there any competition programs to "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" that people love? I want to know.

One I remember is from Jennifer Robinson:
J. ROBINSON - 1999 SKATE CANADA - FS

Elizabet Tursynbaeva of Kahzackstan FS age 16
Worlds 2016💜
She is a violinist so her music is Streisand’s song coupled with violin instrumental..

@skatingfan4ever Thank you so much for putting the show up. After the demise of fsvids.net, it's impossible to have a downloadable catalog of FS videos these days, and I really appreciate your efforts in making the show available to all in the era of copyright restrictions.

I have no faith that the show will be available on USFSA channel after the NBC broadcast. Even if it is, it'll be like their broadcasts of past Nationals where they remove the music, which I think is even more insulting to the skaters and fans.

All of the skaters had wonderful performances and tributes dedicated to the skaters and the passion and love they had for the sport. I still cannot really get through Max's beautiful skate without tearing up. I also loved the closing group number. I thought it was perfect. Looking forward to watching it again on 3/30.

Speaking of music being removed from videos, does anyone know which program it was of Jinna's that Jimmy used the music of? Was it her SP or her FS? Both her Sectionals videos have no music, so I can't tell from that. Or could it be music she was going to use in the future? The news piece with this detail just said it's "Jinna"s program," singular, and in my fan mind I'm like, "Which one? Skaters skate two programs at each competition! Be specific with that reveal!"

I found this on his Wikipedia page:

On March 2, 2025, Ma took part in "Legacy on Ice," an ice show organized by U.S. Figure Skating that paid tribute to lives lost aboard American Eagle Flight 5342.[24] He performed to "One Day I'll Fly Away," which was set to be Jinna Han's competitive routine for the upcoming season.

It is so sweet that Jimmy chose to skate to Jinna's music, whether past or future. Not only does it honor her life; Jimmy wanted to skate to it like she would have skated, skating in her place so to speak. That's so beautiful and shows the power of friendship.

"It is very important for me to at least try and get up to her standard, because she worked her butt off." Source

EDIT: As @ice coverage writes later in the thread, there is still ambiguity as to whether Jimmy skated to Jinna's past or future music. Neither the reporters nor Jimmy specified that detail. What is absolutely clear is that Jimmy skated to Jinna's music, that she inspires him, and that he skated a lovely tribute to her.

Thanks, @sadya. In a way, the fact that Jinna never got to skate to this music gives Jimmy's tribute even more impact for me as a viewer. He skated to it for Jinna because she actually never got the chance to. Not only does it honor her life; Jimmy wanted to skate to it like she would have, in her place, so to speak. That's so beautiful and shows the power of friendship.

So poignant and so kind

:thank: from me as well. I had watched about the first 12 minutes of the YouTube version when it disappeared/went private. I was so happy to be able to watch the rest (well, almost the rest). Now will go hunting for Ilia and the finale.

Fancam of Ilia. Don't know how long it will last. Not as good quality as the stream, but at least didn't cut him off at the knees!

the finale on instagram I expanded just the video to almost fill my screen, and it wasn't bad at all.

And even the fan-cam videos are gone. Absolutely stupid from USFSA and NBC. These videos had 400k+ views for Max's skate and quite a lot for the other skaters too. NF had watched Ilia's skate from this. Alisa Efimova had a version of Max's skate on her YouTube channel (aimed for Russian-speaking audience) with hundreds of thousands of views too, and that was also taken down. There was clearly a lot of interest over the last week and now there's no ability for someone to search for it and watch on YouTube. If USFSA goes after instagram or X or tiktok next, then we're really screwed.

I downloaded the whole thing in Dropbox.

I did too, but I actually preferred the fan cam version for the closing number at least. You could see all the skaters as they came out one by one. I felt like I saw the choreography better in that version. We'll see what happens to the availability of the Legacy on Ice videos after 3/30, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you for all those giving souls who gave their time, energy and or money to honour thsese lives I trully hope the money gets distributed in a way hat helps those who must soldier on without their loved ones. The practical side when you think of Max if his parens were supporting him financially he willr really need the money for skating and living. Some lost the "bread winner" not only the father or mother. Nothing will make up for the lost lives and potential. Bless them all!

A couple quick questions:

I think Alydia Livingston was competing in pre-juvenile, meaning she couldn't be on the NDT yet. Did she get an official invite to the Camp, or was she only there to support Everly and make it a family outing?

In the NDC Tribute skate, who were the skaters wearing the red jackets? At first I assumed they were surviving members of the 2025 NDT, but watching again I think I recognize Camden and Jimmy at least? Who were all the skaters in red jackets? In other words, I think a few of the LOI cast members put on red Camp jackets and showed us a skating skills demo, led by Yebin, Gracie, and Ashley. Earlier I was a bit confused as to why the camera wasn't showing us more of the "red jacket skaters," but this could explain why. Unless my eyes deceive me? If true, that makes this even more sweet, to know you're watching experienced skaters do these basic skating skills exercises. It's the foundation of skating for every skater.

Here's Yebin's Instagram post with photos from that number, and she's tagged all the skaters:

Thank you for posting! Goodness, I'm crying again (in the best way). :love2:

... does anyone know which program it was of Jinna's that Jimmy used the music of? ...

As to which season's program, the news site Figure Skaters Online reported: " ... Jimmy Ma performed to “I’ll Fly Away”, which was the music Jinna Han ... skated to this season. ..."
The "source" cited by the Wikipedia article is a local tv news segment that did not specify that it was the upcoming season's program for Jinna, so I do not consider Wikipedia trustworthy on that point. When Jimmy was interviewed in the tv news video, he never referred to the upcoming season. Nor did the tv reporter.

... Alydia Livingston ... Did she get an official invite to the Camp... ?

Alydia Livingston was officially invited to the camp for ice dance along with her new partner, who (with his former partner) had competed in intermediate at this season's U.S. Ice Dance Final.

Here's Yebin's Instagram post with photos from that number, and she's tagged all the skaters:

For those who don't have Instagram, the tagged skaters are: Ian Somerville; Emily Bratti; Molly Cesnak; Yegor Yegorov; Katie McBeath; Daniil Parkman; Sofia Bezkorovainaya; Jimmy Ma; Jeremy Abbott; Gracie Gold; Camden Pulkinen; Ashley Cain. The first photo shows the 12 skaters standing on the ice in those red jackets. There are more photos from during the program, and the last photo is the group hug between Yebin, Gracie, and Ashley. Here is Yebin's full caption; I highly recommend reading every single word.

There are no words—only the depth of emotions felt in the heart. From the heartache for the ones we lost to the overwhelming love and unity that Legacy on Ice brought to us all.

When Kevin asked if I could create a masterclass number like we had done at the camp and skate in honor of those we lost, I wasn’t sure I could. It had been so long since I last performed. But when I thought about our NDC skaters, any hesitation faded. Every ounce of my energy belonged to honouring our skaters.

I also knew I wanted Gracie and Ashley by my side. As coaches at NDC, they had watched these skaters grow year after year, forming bonds that made this loss even more profound. It meant everything to me that we could do this together.

From editing the music to assembling the video montage, I planned every detail along with Kevin. But up until the final dress rehearsal, the montage wouldn’t play. I was stressed—it had to work. It needed to work. It was for our skaters. After exhausting all options with the tech team and finding no solutions, I resigned myself to the idea that it might not happen. But then, during the live show, when it finally played—I teared up with relief that video played for all 151 of us. A deep, silent thank you to the angels above and to the tech team who made it possible. Because this moment, this tribute, the video meant everything to us. It was for them. It was for where we last stood together. For what it meant to us. Jinna, Spencer, Franco, Angela, Sean, Brielle, Cory, Eddie, Olivia, Alydia, and Everly. And for the ever-supportive coaches: Inna, Evgenia, Vadim, and Sasha.

Even after the monumental outpouring of love and support, I find myself randomly crying again in the car today. The weight of this loss is immeasurable. My heart aches for the families, and I send them all the love and strength I have.

But amidst the sorrow, I am deeply grateful. Grateful that we were able to share one last moment together. Grateful that we could honor their love for this sport, this art—the joy of gliding, the joy of music, the joy that they loved so much. Thank you to all who made this event possible and to all who came 🤍🤍❤️❤️

P.S. According to this report on Figure Skaters Online, there were three performances before the broadcast started. Ashley Cain skated to "Footprints in the Sand," DC Edge (synchro) skated to "You Say," and Molly Cesanek & Yegor Yegorov skated to “Come into My Arms.” This report is also far more personal than the ones on the news. Gina Capellazzi has been involved in skating media for 11 years, and it shows. I promise, her report is so worth reading.

The YouTube algorithm brought this to me. It's yet another SCOB interview from before LOI, with soundbites from Alisa, Misha, and Jimmy. I'm sharing it because it mentions Max and has practice footage of him. I absolutely love what Jimmy says about Max: "He is genuinely one of the best people I've ever met in my life. He is a very kind person. We game together, we vacation together, we train together. We go through the highs and we go through the lows. Seeing him do what he's doing right now is inspirational enough. You could see that he carries it, but he's the same old Max."
