I know.. :) it's that Skate Canada for once, knows their stuff before I know mine LOL

Those dates are very peak season for me... and it would be a very quick round-trip if I go... and I already know I can do Gatineau with those dates...

I guess it will depend on who is invited for the GP

as soon as i read that, i was like.. yup...@lariko is going ;)

I have people in the region and considering too but I think i will do olympic year nationals... there's always a frenzy when it's the big year.


Unrelated to you but as a general message

funny how before 2025, the last nationals in Quebec was 1989... so it took almost 40 years to return and now, two years in a row... and considering Montreal hosted worlds in 2024... the sport is picking up though in Quebec (women especially) but I have the feeling the central destinations may be because of synchro.

it depends on who goes where though. I will be looking for a chance to see the fresh transfers if anyone makes it into GP.

i doubt they would get GPs if they haven't competed on the circuit... unless they transfer to host countries... or unless they win challengers right away... but of course, these trips are not cheap and if the line-up isn't good, it's not worth it.

It also depends on seeds

I mean Gneish/Chigirev and Samodelkina, I haven't seen them yet. A lot of recent transfers are juniors, so I am not sure if they will be eligible for seniors next year/secure spots. Then there is the big question mark with the Korean transfer to Canada. Anyway, yes, the location is great, it's all about the line-up.

well, the only ones who didn't surface so far in challengers were Akopova/Rakhmanin, so I'm not sure what's going on there because Titova and Kalugina went out to get technical minimums really fast for juniors.

Obviously, if they suddenly decide to support Ul'yana...
 
Based on the entries, it looks like Skate Canada has the top finishers for each category for 4CC/Junior Worlds as alternates.

What's interesting is that Uliana is an alternate for both 4CC and Junior Worlds, and they have three alternates for Junior Women. It's the only one where there are more alternates than entries.

It be because of Lulu's situation. So they wanted to make sure that if Lulu doesn't go, they still have two alternates for the two entries.

I don't think so. For individual skaters, that's true. For team qualification, I don't think it is.

So Europeans/4CC count only if no World Standing points (not if they are higher). I interpret "if needed" to mean the same rule applies at the next level; JWC counts only if there are no points from either Worlds or Euros/4CC

I think one quad in SP and FP is enough. Jason Brown finished 5th twice, and Roman is not that far behind him in regards to skating skills. Roman can’t land his triples is what has been costing him.

Anyways, when it comes to our men, my only requirement is they make it past the SP at Worlds.

I dragged this here as it is really where we should discuss Roman (rather than in the Euros thread)

Jason Brown is a different case. He had two solid triple axels. Roman doesn't.
Also, Brown scores higher in PCS because he's been around and consistent for a number of years. Roman, with his poor results, will not get advantageous starting order and reputation points.

Regarding a triple flip, I think it's perhaps Roman's weakest jump so I don't think it's a good idea to include it. It's probably excluded for good reason. I think he has a hard time with the edge (if I recall correctly) and landing it with flow is not something common for him.

So...

Finally, I feel like he runs out of steam quite quickly... So perhaps, the right strategy would be to max out his combos in the first half.

To be competitive, I believe he would need (note that i didn't include a 3flip but put a 2a instead) (in random order)

I prefer the lower base value one 😝
But, if he makes it past the SP, at Worlds, I think he should go for your first option. Might as well go for it with his two quads and one 3A. But, he should attempt these jumps at the first half only, like you listed. That is his only shot for top ten status. Perfect, you got it right. Now, send this layout to his lady coach… 😜

“I had acute pain in the ankle nerve due to a new model of (skating) boots,” he explained. “I had to withdraw from the Boston competition and switch to different boots that I broke (in) within three weeks and ended up with pain in a different part of the ankle.

“It was hard to focus on training, when you cannot trust your equipment. Every time I was going into any jump, I had no idea if it will be a flesh-cutting pain or no pain at all. I had to stop learning harder jumps as it was not safe anymore.

Reese needs to focus on landing more triples. She only landed doubles in her SP at Nationals.
Article says she has only tried the 3A in a harness. I’ll put her in the list of hundreds who are in the same position. Attempting a 3A without a harness is different level. She did mention working on development of a better triple triple. I think that goal is more realistic.
