Pairs SP

Any routine that doesn't involve big ugly two-footing or frantic out-of-sync spins is good enough for me these days. K/S deserves the lead by that much because they were clean.
I really liked D/D's music.

I actually thought their score would have been higher if it wasn't for their lack of speed. They showed great finess, was very clean and polished.And their body movement were very expressive. definitly deserve their score.

Ah yes, good point. I kind of forgot about that, was just focusing on the five point lead lol.
For having an injury during the summer, she sure didn't skate like it.
 
My overall impressions

MB

- They are skating machines: they just went from one element to another like two skating machines. The girl is extremely athletic.

DD

- DD: Their basic skating skills are overall better than MB and they do have a beautiful flow, however the step out in the throw jump placed them behind MB. And their triple twist needs more work.

KS

- They upped their ante a major time: they got the biggest applause of all teams this afternoon. Overall program is packed with very difficult elements and they deserve every mark they get.

- On a shallow note, I don't like K's costume at all. It really accentuated her skinny legs.

I will try to do a summary of the group instead of PBP this time. The public wireless net connection is extremely slow.

Amanda and Mark made numerous mistakes in their SP.

- Amanda had a fall in SBS jump. It was worst fall of the day. She just glided from one end of the rink to another.
- They were out of synch in SBS spin.
- I believe she stepped out in the landing of a throw jump.
 
thanks for the update, Fumie.. but if I'm reading the scores right they got a 2 point deduction, fall got one... what was the other deduction?

I just saw their SP on YouTube. Yes, his costume is unusual but it wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be. It just doesn't relate to the music. I feel like his costume is more appropriate for Gladiator or Spartacus.

I'm afraid no costume this season could possibly beat Brian Joubert's and Evan Lysacek's LP creations. 'Spartacus' - that's exactly what I thought too.
 
Yes. They were actually the best team in the first group I thought. All the elements were cleanly executed. One thing I noticed was the girl appeared to be better skater.

Not too young, 20/19. But the girl only started training for pair in 2006/2007, so not a bad start with 3rd at Jr. worlds, and 12nd at worlds.

They have good speed, jumps and throws. But lifts, spirals, spins need major work. The male partner does not have the strength to do difficult lift. There's not much content in their programs. I also don't like the girl's posture. But they have raw talent.
 
Thank you too! I saw the Youtube. It's remarkable how similar Dong's body build is to (yikes - spelling) Xue Shou's. I was watching on blurry vid and couldn't see her face till the end. They seemed pretty good but don't "sell it" compared to top couples.

Now for the life of me I can't see why K&B aren't on top. I thought they were dynamite. D&D majorly boring. K&S too tame (and skinny) a bird. Where was his red glove?

I also find D&D are extremely boring. All of their programs are pretty generic with little choreography. I'm wondering how much longer they'll be able to sell their so-called 'chemistry' to adoring fans.

M&B are dynamic and fast. They have found the right choreographer(Miller?) this season. The choreographer who constructed two terrific programs 'Turado' and 'Nutcracker' and propelled Shen & Zhao to fame in 2003 & 2004. I'm surprised very few skaters have gone to her for help. I'm tired of Morozov and Lori's choreography.

In terms of top pairs' programs this season, S&S have two excellent programs, M&T, K&S(Russia) have good short programs, M&B(US) have two good programs. Zhang&Zhang, P&T's SPs are also quite good, P&T's LP is good but a bit disjointed.

Is Keanu's hand-on-hip death spiral more difficult?

I can see M/B making LOADS of money from endorsements. They're young, they're brilliant and they sizzle!

Sorry I butchered the great Xue Shen's name! :bow:
