Roman wasn't in the stories with the skaters who posted on Instagram (Lia/Trennt, Piper/Paul, Maddie. Katherine made her own posts and wasn't in any of the stories with them.) He hasn't made any posts about being at Pearson, and practices start tomorrow. Unless he says something, I'm going to assume that he's fine and probably doesn't want to post anything about flying after his issues last season.Skating lesson released a video update.

Well, wouldn't this be just perfect. I don't often get frustrated about things like this... but dammit, Roman. Fingers crossed.

I think Gabby is waiting for Gracie to return then they campete against each other. If Gabby could do what she did at worlds in 2017 she would still be the top Canadian.I guess they are saving Daleman for another round as she still hasn't retiredthat's pretty much the entire team from the 2018 golden team event.
Who would have thought Matthew would be the top CAN man after the short! Again it goes to show that CAN does need to send our lower ranked skaters out more, cause you never know when they can have a great skate. Matthew even had the 4th best TEC score. Just think what his score might have been if he was better known internationally.

I have never seen Matthew skate better. Of course, he deserved higher PCS - it was a wonderful program and skated very well. He should be proud.
But wondering how Wesley is doing. Roman got the TES he deserved here. I worry he won't make it out of the short at worlds and not sure he can rotate that 4S well enough to avoid a negative GOE. And then there is the triple axel. Sigh

Based on results this season, Roman seems more likely to make the free than Wesley.
Just rewatched Matthew's program and did he ever get lowballed on GOE and PCS. Yes I know he skated early and is new to big events yet still, USA skaters can come out of no where and score big. If he was skating for the USA he would have scored 5-10 points higher.

I agree that Matthew was lowballed, but no USA skater came out of nowhere in this case. Tomoki is a World Junior Champion, Jimmy has been on the (international) circuit for years, and Camden once was 5th at a WC. Better points for Matthew than Tomoki and Camden (rightly so) in any case.
When I saw Matthew as the top CAN man, I feared the others had bombed. But no, they're all clustered together in the middle of the pack.
There are a lot of men close together in the middle of the standings. That seems to be a trend for the men these days.
I thought the same at my first glance, then realised that Roman's score was okay. Matthew really rose to the occasion, and I hope he does the same for the free. He is now just 0.25 points off the CTES for Worlds, and I would love him to be able to achieve that. I wouldn't send Matthew to Worlds (Roman has much more experience, and that really matters this year with Olympic qualification at stake), but I would like him to be eligible.

My funny story….
As I was sleeping when the men’s competition was LIVE
I woke up in the morning and I usually go to results….. scroll to the bottom and then look at the results slowly as I make my way to the top.
I did this in the morning.
I went up to 12th…. Aleksa…. Not bad
To 9th…. Roman…. You could have done better
(then I remembered that Matthew was the third Canadian)
Instead of going up, I figured I must have missed him…. So, I scrolled down instead of up…. All the way to 22nd.
When I didn’t see his name, I remembered someone mentioned there was exactly 24 skaters. So, I thought to myself…. Matthew must have not made it to the competition. Darn it… oh well
Then, I went back up to 9, 8 and then when I got to 7th, I was pleasantly surprised
So, now Matthew really does have a chance to beat Stephen and Wesley SB and the 203 benchmark. I hope he does it. At least, the 203 mark, to guarantee three skaters from Canada at Skate Canada

He's also within .25 of getting world CTES minimum, having improved his short program TES by around 10 points! We've discussed this before... I am pretty sure @Sackie wasn't talking about these folks. It happens, from time to time, that an American skater comes out of nowhere, wins a challenger with already high PCS... and it's odd at times. Sometimes it's deserved.. but sometimes, we wonder why it takes years for a dance team from Canada to slowly go up that ladder when a team from USA will climb these steps so much faster... it's not just Canada btw.. it's pretty much every country except USA and one country we shall not name.
With the skate Matthew had, a skater from the USA may have received enough points to be in the final flight
This year, one skater from Canada came out of nowhere... KMS. At the same time, she is in her mid twenties already and the event she won didn't have any stars in it... (I am not trying to minimize what she achieved but just highlighting that judges were freer to give her good marks because they didn't have to respect some politics)
