Statement from USFS regarding Dave Lease

It's a pity. The Skating Lesson have great knowledge of figure skating and should be a wonderful source of information. They also have great connections to the skating community and often have very prominent guests.

But...the backstabbing comments at times are just sooo social-media-ish. Very often TSL focus on gossip and tries to make scandals out of them. The sensationalistic focus is just not good for the sport imo.

Yeah, it's a pity.

What he said was horrific.

Some of the interviews with former athletes on that channel were very interesting. I wish those could have stayed up. But the rest was gossip, "absolutely unnecessary and uncalled for" (to quote Uncle Dick). I won't miss Dave Lease or TSL. To think he was so "heartbroken" when the tragedy first happened, and then to say awful things about the skaters involved. Crazy.

I do not want to ask.... but asking- what Dave said? If you do not want, please, do not reply/amswer/
He basically said that the children that died were not that good or talented. Just a heartless statement/opinion. Very typical for TSL.

But to be fair, he was talking about coaches that were taking advantage of young skaters and their parents...and the "not talented" remark happened to slip in there.

I don't know what was said, but the YouTube channel, Facebook page and Instagram for The Skating Lesson are all gone.
He basically said the skaters who died in the crash were not that talented and the parents were wasting their money.

I don’t care if they were just learning to do a snowplow stop or reeling off quad axels. It was a tragedy.

Unfortunately he’s inactivated his channels before and brought them back when the storm was over.

Yes, this has happened before.

I know TSL isn't everyone's cup of tea and it certainly isn't mine as I find the "news reporting style" to be very sensationalistic.

Unfortunately, I think this happens in a sport where a lot comes down to peoples tastes and what they like. It's easy to pull out the knife-backstabbing-comments.

Sarcastic commentary disguised as "keeping it real": not my cuppa, but in the end, who cares. I stopped listening to the TSL commentary ages ago. I would listen to interviews

But these statements from Dave go far beyond taste and sarcasm and keeping it real and any other skating commentary I have heard, good bad or indifferent

it boggles the mind that he thought a review of *this* event was in any way appropriate for the expression of *these* thoughts. Just mind boggling.

"Not everybody who was on that plane was that talented." I saw that, and went beyond horror into cold shock. Even if someone believed that - hell, even if it was actually true, which tragically no one will ever know - to open his mouth and say the words out loud... and at this moment... how could he have thought the hurt it would cause the grieving was worth it?

If the show does come back, after this the insiders, skaters and experts who are its bread and butter may distance themselves after this.

Ilia doesn’t follow him. For which I respect him greatly.

The people who were paying for his comments wanted to hear stuff like this! Why do you pay for Dave lease then?
