I couldn't find where to post this but you skating fans migh have some information.

Does anyone know how Gracie Gold is doing? I think she had surgery? Is she skating? Is she planning o ry for the Olympics? Is she retired - not sure. I heard she was coaching?

Also, what about her kind of mirror twin Gabby Daleman. She has had such bad luck and injuries. I think she is coming back from injury bu is she still competing? Is she going for the 2026 olympics. It's canada and their ladies are weak so you never know. Does anyone know what and where Katia Gordeeva is? Is she in Edmonton? I think she married David Pelletier. And what about Evan Lysacek? Joannie Rochette - I think she was in medical school. Patrick Chan? Jeremy Abbott? Jill TRenary? Karyn Kadavy? Rosalyn Sumners and Linda Fraiianne were all American great lady skaters bu what happened to them?

Emanuel Sandu? Nicole Bobek? These two were wild children. And there was boring skaer who just sort of snuck in for a world bronze but i have not heard of her in years Holly Cook. And they hit rough times but wha is going on with Debi Thomaas? Morgan Cipres and Nik Sorenson. I have not seen much of Sarah Hughes

Googling doesn't say lot of give a lot of dettails.

I think Gracie is coaching now, hasn't formally retired but I doubt with the current US women's lineup she will be thinking Olympics, except maybe as a commentator? (She has a pretty voice and a lovely face, I wouldn't be surprised). And I have read she was at Legacy on Ice.

Patrick is selling real estate, the last I heard? - and appeared at Stars on Ice in 2024.

Well... Patrick is in development/investment real estate... It's not like he is going around showing houses ;)
He has retired from Stars on Ice.
He is a very busy father of two.

Joannie is finishing up her specialty in med school. She is going to be an anesthesiologist.

Jeremy is coaching.

I will not reply to the rest... I think it's fine if "google" doesn't say much about these people.. it just means that they are doing their own business and are maybe enjoying not having a public life :)

She had surgery for an injury in late 2024.

For the Olympics, I don't know if that is her goal. But I'll answer what she would need to do for it since the selection criteria have been published. The qualification period started in September 2024.
  • Medalists at the 2024 and /or 2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. N/A
  • Placement and scores from the 2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. - N/A
  • Placements and scores from the 2025 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. - N/A
  • Placement and scores from the 2026 Canadian National Figure Skating Championships
  • Qualification to the 2025-2026 ISU Grand Prix Final. - Extremely unlikely, she would need to win an early Challenger to have more than a host spot
  • Season best international scores from the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 ISU Grand Prix Series, ISU Grand Prix Final and/or ISU Senior International events. - would likely be a Senior International
  • Demonstration of short and free skate international scores from the current season (2025-2026) for a potential placement in the top two flights at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
  • Any other relevant criteria deemed appropriate for selection.
She is at a disadvantage if she is intending to qualify for the Olympics since she only has a domestic competition from August this season. Her highest international score since 2019 was 176.74 at Warsaw Cup 2021. There are four Canadian women with an SB higher than that this season (Madeline Schizas, Katherine Medland Spence, Uliana Shiryaeva, Sara-Maude Dupuis.)

Her bronze medal at 2022 Nationals was with a score of 167.50. That would have had her finishing in 7th place at 2025 Nationals. Her competition in August was with her jump layout watered down since she was coming back from injury. Any competition she does this upcoming season will also likely feature watered down content since she wasn't able to increase her difficulty this season. Her score there was 152.99, which had her in 4th.

You may have decided that the Canadian women are weak as a field and that would make it easy for Gabrielle to come back and get the Olympic spot. But it won't be easy if that's what she wants to do. The field has changed if you look at the scores and she hasn't come back to the level she was scoring at 7-8 years ago.

I am hoping she is able to come back next season and is able to qualify for a Challenger and can make it to Nationals. I hope that whatever happens, she'll be satisfied with how she did at the end of next season. But I doubt she will be at the Olympics given that qualifying for it in Canada started in September 2024.

Sarah Hughes graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School a while back and passed the bar for both New York and New Jersey. A couple of years ago she dipped her toe in the icy waters of politics, but did not persue it. She has been active in various programs that encourage girls in sports.

I believe that she is serving on the organizing committee for the 2036 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

It’s always interesting to see what skaters get up to once they retire. Some stay in the sport as a coach or commentator, others go to school, and get “normal” jobs…it all depends.

I mean Michelle Kwan is the literal US Ambassador to Belize. And of course Natasha Zabiiako is vlogging and traveling the world on the WTA tour with her girlfriend…

I think Kwan no longer has that post and now she is a mother.

She was a mother before she was appointed ambassador. She left the post with the change in administrations.
Michelle never lacks for outside activities. :)
Ah, politics. The funny thing is that Michelle's title "Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary"is now vacant. The current guy -- a career diplomat with extensive service in Latin America -- is "Chargé d'Affaires ad intertim." The current President has made such an appointment three times in his two terms, but has never gotten around to acually appointing and ambassador.

(*I don't know why I have such an interest in the affairs of this country, but oh well. :) )

I wonder what happened to that Patrick Chan skating school that was planned once. I know he one said he had a dream a few years of ago of owning a million dollar condo in Vancouver. He didn't realize what do you get for a million in Vancouver.

Not that it matters but Michelle had the post well before she became a mother. It was when Hillary Clinton was involved maybe Secretary State?

The Hughes family are phenoms. I think her younger sister Emily? is also a lawyer for the United Nations??? I see David Pellieter is teaching power skating to Connor McDavid and friends from the Edmonton Oilers. Any news about Jamie Sale? I think Susan Humphries is doing some coaching.

Michelle Kwan was appointed ambassador to Belize in October 2022.

are you referring to another position?

You are right, not that it matters. :)

Last I knew Jamie Sale was a "motivational coach"

Jamie Sale has gotten a lot pushback in recent years on her politics/conspiracy theories.

Michelle Kwan's baby Kalista Belle was born in January of 2022. Michelle was nominated for the Ambassadorship to Belize in the same month, but the nomination was not confirmed by the Senate until October.

I am pretty sure that this was Michelle's first actual diplomatic post. Previous to that her assignments were along the line of "good will sports ambassador," under both the George Bush administration (her political mentor was then-Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice) and the Obama presidency when Hillary Clinton was in that post. She served in the Hilary Clinton campaign in 2016 in the role of surrogate manager -- her job was to line up famous people to endorse Clinton's run. She also achieved a prersonal friendship during those years with then-Vice president Joe Biden, even traveling together in connection with the Special Olympics.

Here's Michelle chatting up President Bush at a state luncheon in honor of then-President Hu of China in 2006. A week or so earlier Kristi Yamaguchi's did the honors at a state dinner for Prime Minister Kozumi of Japan. (The U.S. was on better terms with Japan than with China, so the Jamapese PM got an official State Dinner, while President Hu only rated a Luncheon.) A few years later Maia Shibatani, escorted by Alex, was tapped for the "accomplished and beautiful Asian-American" role.

January of 2002? I thought it was much more recent?

Wiki says 2022.
