2024-25 British and Irish figure skating

Britain could qualify for the team event with entries in 3 disciplines. I'll be rooting for your pair! Pairs FS is starting now.
Pairs spot and a high enough total ranking across all disciplines is what we need. I think we were ranked around 7-8 on the last table Saine posted.

That table is VERY tentative. Points could go up or down after Worlds. Plus points from next year's GP will be added.

Last Olympics, only 10 feds qualified 3 disciplines for Olympics, so points didn't matter!

I think they should and may have enough points to get Ed to the Team Event if he doesn't qualify in Beijing with one of the additional entries since Fear/Gibson can do well on the Grand Prix.

Yes, very tentative. The points will matter for countries that don't have complete teams so that they can use one of the additional entry quotas for the Team Event.

Do the teams that qualified in all 4 events have precedence over those that only qualified for 3, or is it by points among those who qualified for 3 or 4?

From my understanding of the rules, it's by points from those countries. I looked at the tables for 2022, Italy (3/4) was above Georgia (4/4) in the points tables.

Was it an official table or a fan-generated one?

I think you're right that 3/4 are on an equal footing, from my reading of the rules. But I thought it was the other way.

Given what happened today in the rest of the dance field, I don't want to tempt fate, but the first part of the campaign for two Olympic Dance spots has gone well.

I'm probably biased, but Phebe and James' RD is one of my favourites of the season. The music cuts work, their styling is on fleek, and they embrace the "social dance" aspect.

And Phebe's lovely costume. So fitting for The Beatles.

I like Phebe and James Free Dance so glad they will perform it at Worlds. And happy they qualified for the Free Dance by their own efforts and didn't have to rely on mistakes of others that unfortunately happened later. Really good luck to them later and to Lilah & Lewis. (not making any predictions after yesterday's chaos)

@saine are we in the same position that the Germans and Italians were for pairs? - as long as our first ice dance team places high enough for the combined position to be 28 or less, we get two spots confirmed today because our second team made the free? Or is ice dance different and Bekker/Hernandez need to place top 19 as well?

For Pairs, it's one spot. Vaipan-Law/Digby needed to place top 10 to have a chance at a second spot. For Ice Dance, Bekker/Hernandez qualified for the free, so Fear/Gibson only need to place top 12 to qualify two spots at the Olympics.

Thanks. :) Yes, I knew it was one spot for pairs. We don't have a second senior pair anyways. It was ice dance I wanted to check that Bekker/Hernadez could finish 20th after the free and us still have two Olympic spots provided Fear/Gibson placed high enough.

Just popping in with a reminder that in an hour from now, BBC2 will be showing 90 minutes of highlights from the Senior World Championships.

Here is the link for the BBC2 coverage on the iPlayer:

Details on how to receive BBC2 are in my TV Schedule post earlier in this thread.

Hope this helps

Thrilled with that worlds performance all round! Lilah and Lewis on the podium! And a second spot secured for Phebe and James (they got to perform Bond in front of the WC crowd and they were SO GOOD)! 4 Olympic spots over three disciplines!

Also qualifying for the team event being a real possibility is so exciting!

Ed, work hard for Beijing :hap10::jump:

After European performances I was quietly confident about Worlds but equally ice is slippy and I was also concerned that maybe they wouldn't all repeat those performances.

Ana and Luke were just as good in the short and then were even better in the free where they didn't have to skate only a few hours after Ana had a nasty fall. If they can up the difficulty a little bot on their jumps they can sore 190+ next year and can target finishing top 10 at Worlds and Olympics.

Kristen not as good as Euros but shows how far she has come that this is now good enough for her to qualify for the Free and maintain her position there. She has every reason to be confident going into next season. And hopefully she fully appreciates this time knowing how close she has been to injuries curtailing her career.

Must be hard in a way for Ed being the only one in Worlds team not to qualify an Olympic spot. Onwards to Beijing; that will be tough but better to try and fail than fail to try as they say. And given GB is in a good position in the Team event he may well end up going anyway for that although I am sure he would prefer to qualify for the main event as it were.

Really good to see Phebe and James progressing in their senior careers. Last year they were 17th at Euros and 21st at World; this year 13th and 17th. And have qualified an Olympic spot.

And finally well done to the history makers Lilah and Lewis. They looked nervous waiting for their results and also I think they & Romain thought they hadn't done enough initially and then a lovely reaction when they realised the were on the podium.

British Skating has a fabulous opportunity over the next year to build on this years success; hopefully sell lots of tickets for Euros and get some more media coverage and eyeballs on the sport building up to the Olympics followed by an Olympics where nearly all of the skating is on in prime time. Fingers crossed they can take advantage of this.

Phebe and James are currently no. 24 on the season's best scores - am I right in thinking that means its fairly likely they will get a grand prix assignment, and have a chance of even getting a second?
