2025 World Championships Pairs Free Skate

Someone on another site commented that there were a lot of people crying on the concourse.

I’m there and did see one person crying.

Is it just me or was this pretty poorly skated overall?

The sad side was Deanna and Maxime don’t got medal , is a pity and looks like wasn’t a good season for them like it was in the past seasons

Anyone know who the guy was between Ben Agosto and Ashley Wagner when they were interviewing Miura and Kihara?

It’s a home worlds with home cookin’

I think it had a lot to do with Alisa and Misha overperforming expectations by quite a lot, and Ellie and Danny finishing about where I expected.

But, I'm interested. What would your placements have been, taking both segments into account? I don't see where it would be any worse than where they ended up... 6th and 7th. That's not home cookin'. That's just the placements landing where they did.

Of the only team to have 3 spots at Worlds and possibly the Olympics next year who had it being the USA?
Spots are one thing... chance of winning is another thing.

Kam O'Shea are very good but these throws will set them back until they learn them.. .
Efimova doesn't have citizenship and I don't see how she'd get it at this point... She has less than a year to get it (even less than that) and doesn't have the results to back her "special status" IMHO
So, will Valentina and Max be ready ? I think they also had issues with jumps.
Chan and Howe are good but not Olympic medal good yet... I believe in them in the future if they get through injuries.
McBeath Parkman may go but though they are solid, they are bland...

So again, a country can have many spots but no team on the podium.

Also, as some, including you, questioned the logic behind the rule : It is exactly to prevent a nation with two very strong teams but one weaker team, to take the spot from another nation. For instance, let's say a country had 3 entries, had qualified 3 spots, but their third team may have not made the free skate, it would be ridiculous to give them those 3 spots... So that third team can still earn it, but has to compete in the last chance qualifier. I think it's a pretty good rule, especially when it comes with the third spot. For worlds, it doesn't matter because any country can enter one spot with the tech minimums.. but for Olympics, with reduced quotas, it's a good idea... that way, the Olympics are fairer and stronger.

If a country has 3 pairs entered And…

1. First pair comes in 3rd place
2. Second pair comes in 9th place
3. Third pair comes in 17th place (makes the free)

How many Olympic spots would they have gotten?

Crying? I was there. What did I miss?

I would have given 7th place to the Hungarians. Their errors were flukes but KO’s errors are perennial inconsistencies. You never know if they’re gonna land a throw. Not sure why the judges are rewarding that. That said, I like KO’s choreo better but this is sport not dance.

THRILLED for Alisa and Misha. Dare I say best throws of the whole field? A good, clean throw is becoming as rare in pairs as SBS jumps, so to see solid ones is just refreshing. This nearly matched their US Nationals performance. I said in the SP thread earlier today that I wanted her to relax and trust herself because they could be top 6, and they were! And very close to top 5 to boot. I would be OK with them keeping both programs next year for the Olympics... but then there's probably no Olympics for them. :( But in any case, this is such a great partnership, and I loved them having another big moment on home ice.

I'm a bit over Kam/O'Shea. Lovely skating, but the throw jumps have to be better than this after 3 years.

Hase/Volodin nearly had it, but this is why you have to keep the focus to the very end. As soon as they finished, I said to my friend that the error could have cost them the title. Good for Miura/Kihara not letting the title go without a fight. Also thrilled for Conti/Macii hanging on for the bronze, well deserved. Metulkina/Berulava were so boring. That music went nowhere. For the Hungarians, they were technically solid, but they had absolutely no connection to the music either.

In that scenario, they'd get 3.

The judges are supposed to be judging only what happens during THAT event.
