2025 World Team Trophy: Info and pre-game chat

OK it's confirmed, Georgia has unretired skaters for this..... Looking forward to seeing show programs in the actual competition....

You said that very diplomatically. From a GS forum.
This year they held Georgian Nationals for the first time, because they finally have a suitable ice-rink. As far as the results are concerned, there was nothing to bet in. The only exception is in ice-dance, it looks like Davis Smolkin didn't compete, so Kazakova Revia are the champions.
I found the information here https://m.sports.ru/figure-skating/blogs/3211618.html
Original information is available on Facebook and Instagram of Georgian Figure Skating federation.
To be honest, I wrote the message 3 or 4 times before publishing....

For those not clicking on the link, Jason is confirmed for the US team (strictly by World standings, he was not next in line; I believe Camden was. I doubt the US had to do a hard sell to get the ISU or Japanese sponsors to accept Jason).

And I am like Jason himself, who unapologetically loves this event. :)

Is this official? I clicked on the entries link and saw nothing. I did see the announcement by Japan of Team Japan, but that's all. I don't think the choice between Jason and Camden was difficult for anyone. Jason's ranking comes from not having competed much for 2 years and less than his usual results at the GPs that he did do. But his international scores are higher than any other Team USA skater except, of course, Ilia. And he's a big favorite in Japan. I am thrilled to hear that he will there. He absolutely loves doing it. Where can I find the list of participants?

Team Challenge Cup was a different event... :)

Whatever it is, WTT or TCC, the fluff is real. The skating can be real too. One doesn't prevent the other.

I don't think Uncle Bobby's skate-a-thon in a church parking lot would have helped Shoma's quad flip get ratified by the ISU. Just a hunch. It looks like we have different ideas what fluff is.

We certainly do. Some events, even ISU certified events are fluffier than others. TCC and WTT, or the famous Mordavian ornament.

I had thought that the 1st April instagram/X post (can't remember which it was) about them competing was an April Fool's Day joke! :ROFLMAO:
To be fair to the person who posted it on Twitter/X, they weren't sure if it was actually going to happen or it was just the hope of the federation 😅

If the event were just fluff, you couldn't really make history there. That photo was taken at the 2016 KOSE Team Challenge Cup. Shoma Uno made history landing the first ratified quad flip in int'l competition at that event.
I was there. It is sanctioned. You can make history there. It was fluff. There is nothing wrong with fluff ...like an exhibition game of baseball held in Japan with a US Team.

The Medalist is a manga about Figure Skating that has started in 2020, and been made into an anime series since January this year (it's available on Disney + in some countries or with a VPN). Their PR team seems to announce a participation in "World Championship" but these are past, and they mention April 17th and the logo is that of the World Team Trophy, so... I don't know if there's any information regarding what this participation will be, or may it be a surprise? I assume it would be for the Gala but who knows? Maybe signs for the teams, or the like?

As per the announcement, Inori (the Medalist's main character), or rather the actress Natsumi Haruse, will host the opening ceremony :)
There will also be a thematic photo booth at the venue where people can pose and take shots if they like.
They also mention distribution of "gold medal style cards" among the audience.
I also expect the anime's opening song "Bow and Arrrow" will be played a lot at the venue. It's a big hit in Japan right now, both the song itself (by Japanese superstar Kenshi Yonezu), and the music video clip (featuring Yuzuru Hanyu skating to it, yes, no less!) topping the charts.
This anime is focused on skating and hugely popular now in Japan, both in terms of views on TV Asahi, D+ and social media engagement / comments. So is the manga. Hence the buzz :)
