The First Skate | Jul 5, 2025

Waiting for details of a possible broadcast/livestream (apparently there will be a lottery, for locals first and then general audience of any tickets are left?)

There will be an ice show to commemorate the opening of newly refurbished Xebio Arena Sendai.

Skaters: Yuzuru Hanyu, Takeshi Honda, Akiko Suzuki, Rika Hongo & skaters from Ice Rink Sendai.
Choreographer: Nanami Abe
Jul 5, 2025
13.30

Further details on Jun 1 onwards.

So as we are waiting for some more info maybe it is time to reminisce a bit. Actually 3 of these 4 skaters already skated once a joint programme choreographed also by Nanami Abe, Yuzuru's coach at a time. It was the legendary Hana Wa Saku, a song of remembrance and hope for the Great East Japan Earthquake survivors, at an NKH Special from January 2016. Yuzu, Akiko and Takeshi Honda were there, with Shizuka Arakawa instead of Rika Hongo. A thing of beauty it was, worth of remembering.
They jokingly assigned themselves then the roles of mother (Shizuka), father (Takeshi), older sister (Akiko) and younger brother (Yuzuru). Now the roles might change as they are all a bit older, and the youngest one, Rika, is replacing the oldest one (Shizuka).
Hopefully the warm and family-like atmosphere remains. Even more so, as 3 of them - Yuzuru, Akiko and Rika (who is also originally from Sendai) - skate together each year in the Notte Stellata show. Yuzuru and Akiko both took also part in the Challenge charity show for Noto, and had a hand in the recent success of the Medallist anime. :)

Registration for the tickets is starting on June 1st, but I suppose that it's for Sendai residents, then non residents can register from June 10th?

So it seems. Lottery dates usually mean the registration dates with the actual lottery drawn after closing the registration - on the last day or even at some slightly later date given as the date for the lottery's results.

An official website has been launched for the show/the new rink. There is a FAQ section with all useful information including what can/cannot be brought into the arena or expected there, access and transportation details and tips, a local map etc. Also very important info on ID check to be performed before The First Skate show, and the ID documents required / accepted for identification if you're lucky to get a ticket and enter the venue, with separate section on identification requirements for Japanese vs foreign citizens. The requirements are essentially very similar to those introduced for Yuzuru's ice stories.
The main purpose of this check is to prevent unofficial trade in tickets at sky high prices. With Yuzu performing at his home city and a very limited number of seats for this particular event, risk of illegal trade would be very high, hence precautions.

Here's the link:

Given that it happened even in the biggest of his solo shows and as you say, this is smaller and very very special, I think they are wise.

They have updated the cast page.

I’m sure it’s an error, but there is no bio for Yuzu just now. It got me thinking about “You know me, no introduction needed” phrase and it’s rather hilarious.

Well, it's not wrong  And by now his bio is so glittery and (looking at wiki) so very very long...

Lovely pictures! And I am always happy to see Rika again

I will be happy if we can have a stream. Local TV should be okay, fans will find a way to watch.
Judging by the past practices (Yuzu, not Sendai), livestreams would be usually announced after the lotteries are over, and I see logic to it.
So let's keep hoping and thinking positive (and exercise some gentle pressure on TPTB through public prayers on social media, lol).

Lottery period for Sendai residents: 1-8 June 2025 (1,700 seats available)

Lottery update after 2nd June 2025 17.00: We received 6,450 applications so far.

:dbana:

I am happy that they're negotiating things to provide streaming. Much appreciated.

"Regarding the video distribution issue that you have inquired about, I have also strongly requested that it be done. The city of Sendai is currently in negotiations with Hanyu's side, and it appears that they will also need to make adjustments regarding the handling of copyrights for the music that will be played in addition to the video."
