Wow, I really wasn't aware this section existed, or if I ever saw the name, I had no idea what it is or means. Could mean interviews and articles, or whatever.

Perhaps you might rename it as, 'Archived Videos,' and then promote it to members. Take us on a tour of the site, and surely neglected sections will receive traffic more often! 👍 Thanks!

It would be popular if it were more easy to find. It should be in the Main Arena and labelled Archived Videos.

What is the easiest way to get to it from the front page?

Afaik the only way to get to it is click on the three line menu and scroll to to the bottom.

Alternatively, pick What's New and then pick New Media.

It does not come up in a search.

I uploaded some videos to the "Media" section when it was first started, but then forgot all about it's existance until this thread appeared.

I have never bothered with the blue tabs at the top of the forum pages at the best of times. But at the time that the "Media" section was added, I was using a 1,366 x 768 pixel monitor, and the "Media" tab was hidden behind the grey tabs (which I do use). You had to click on an arrow to scroll across to get to it. And because it wasn't readily visible, I forgot it was there.

Now that I am using a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel monitor, all of the tabs can be seen all the time. But, I've got used to not looking near them. The old adage about it being hard to break the habit of a lifetime is true.

To be honest, I don't really see the benefit of the "Media" section. When it first started, I thought it was going to be a way of saving videos to the forum, and thus preventing them from being zapped. But, when I started uploading videos, I discovered it is not that at all. It is just a fancy interface for lists of embedded videos from YouTube, Daily Motion, etc. And lists of videos elsewhere on the internet can be done just as effectively (and no doubt using up a lot less server space) in forum threads. As @labgoat's Re-Watch threads demonstrate.

Personally, rather than having a "Media" section as a tab at the top of the pages, I would have an actual forum for the Re-Watch threads, and have more members helping @labgoat. Let's face it, with the way they are located in the General sub-forum of the Fan Fest forum, these valuable and very useful threads are kinda buried. They deserve to be more prominent.

But, that is just my opinion.

I think it's a good one!

They are buried for a reason. They have been much harder to find and get deleted this way.

Ah, I see.

I have an admiration of what you have done in compiling the Re-Watch threads, and thought that your work deserved to get more recognition by the threads being more prominent. But, now that you have pointed out your reasoning, I agree that this is probably the right tactic to take.

By the way, I discovered recently that for some of the events that were done on SolidSport this season, the archived livestreams have now been taken down. So, so much for this being a way of ensuring the skating remained available.

Ironically I started compiling these rewatches during the pandemic for something to watch and because people were uploading tons of stuff at the time while isolating at home. I was curious to see how many competitions I had on video had gone digital - thus allowing me to get rid of many tapes. After I found all my videotaped stuff, I decided to see if i could find the non-USA coverage and recreate the competitions as they happened. First I did the major events, then branched out to the GP and finally the JGP and so on. It was therapeutic for me as something to do to take my mind off the tragedy of hospital work in the time of Covid. When I realized other GS people were looking for skating events to watch as well, I decided to share my rewatches but only for dedicated fans. Every so often, videos get purged and there is nothing I can do about that. As I watched channels go down, I realized my lists could unintentionally be used to wipe out many many events & channels and decided to keep the lists in a quieter thread for only the most dedicated fans. I do restore new copies as they become available - but at this point we are talking about a mammoth number of links to check and I just accept that videos come and they go and that's life. There are always gonna be broken links. There are many dedicated posters (I am NOT one of them) and I do my best to share their offerings hopefully without jeopardizing their channels. The friendships and lively discussions stemming from the rewatches is all the recognition I would ever want other than the unrealistic wish that the lists & videos would be preserved forever. Making the videos available to serious fans increases the chances that these events will not be lost to history as I know of many others who have archived collections now. It is also really fun to hear from people who watched something from long ago that they always wanted to see again or had never seen before. How cool to be able to list all the videos so that someone like Ilia or Max could rewatch his parents compete. I'm sure they have videos, but how neat that they are here for us as well.

ONE MORE THING: A few people have reached out to me asking me to share ALL my stuff with them. First you'd need a mammoth storage set-up to house such a collection and second I DO NOT SAVE EVERYTHING - I am not a library! My collection is here in the rewatch threads mostly.

@dorispulaski The media tab (is and always has been) located on the tab on the navbar at the very top of the forum. :) Once you have clicked on the tab, you can see "What's New", "Search" etc for media.

Thanks for the idea @CaroLiza_fan!

Many have contributed to media portion, spending endless hours and days creating links. You can see this here:

As you can see, some members have made thousands of contributions, including @labgoat.

I'm trying to determine how often it is used :)

Having a Rewatch Forum is not a bad idea, but would entail a great deal of work of mirroring those links...

For a user who has his computer set at bigger than normal font size the media tab doesn't show. Likewise the tab that displays the available smileys doesn't show (you have to know to click on the little unmarked "more options" thingy to get it.)

If you read the forum on your phone, no such tab shows when in vertical (portrait) orientation. If you use horizontal (landscape) orientation, it only shows if you slide the bar over.

When using the mobile phone, you need to look at the "hamburger" menu. This is typically the case with all sites read on a mobile device.

You simply scroll down the menu.

Yes, that is what I described doing in post #7

Oddly enough, on my Kindlefire, it looks like there is a slide bar in portrait orientation, but it does not slide.

The tab shows in the landscape orientation.
