The First Skate | Jul 5, 2025

A professional photographer's impressions from The First Skate compiled in an article on his blog / website with a bunch of truly great photographs of all the skaters added in the portfolio section on the website, including lots of pics of both the stars and the junior and amateur skaters who took part . Enjoy!

Here's the photo gallery

and here's the article

and an X post from the author with the pic servings as a link

A new report on The First Skate coming up in the Digital TV Guide to be issued on July 24.
As the title says, it is a TV guide. First Skate was not on TV, Would it be about to change? :unsure:

The First Skate will be visible on Zaiko for a pay, from August 8th to 14th, tickets being for sale from August 2d:

A good news for international fans of the skaters (or supporters of the rink) is that the process to buy the tickets and watch the show seems rather straightforward; and the 3% fee (plus exchange rate depending on the banks) on payments with international cards seem very reasonable, particularly on a 1000¥ ticket price. This poster advises not to forget to test the compatibility and shows how in their tutorial:

This is great and long-awaited news indeed! The First Skate stream! I am sooo happy we got it at last!!!!
:rock: :rock: :cheer::cheer::jumping::jumping::party2::party2:

Very interesting article by Fuji News Network on the history that led to the opening of the new ice rink in Sendai, the city as the birthplace of Japanese figure skating, its phenomenal sport success around the time of Shizuka Arakawa and the later crisis with ice rinks being closed in the area one after another, the number of skaters cut by half, and a miraculous stubborn young boy who kept practising against all odds, ans was to become the brightest legend of the sport in no time at all :rock:
Very good reminder of the history behind it all, well worth reading as we are awaiting the opening of the paid stream for the First Skate show on August 8.

I hope that the new rink wasn't damaged by the tsunami this morning! I understand that the warning has been uplifted while the advisory is maintained, and that there was moderate damage in Hokkaido, 250km from the epicentre, and little damage in Honshu but we don't really know yet and I wonder if it's high above sea.

Luckily, I think everything is fine as I guess if there was any damage, we would have heard of it by now. In this case, no news is good news!

The second article in the series on the background story behind the creation of the new ice rink in Sendai and why it is such a big deal.
I love the title: "The Day Prayers Turned Into Ice".
Yes, this is quoting Yuzuru :rock: :love2:

Reports from people who have experienced problems with buying in Japan in the past, are very positive: registration needs a VPN set to Japan but it works even with free VPNs, international bank cards work as announced, and the provider says that the viewing should go well also from abroad.

More than 200,000 archive streaming tickets were bought within the first 24 hours (and counting of course) !!!! :rock: :rock: :rock: :clap: :clap: :clap:

And that's for an 1-hour long show celebrating the opening of a local rink, with only 4 pro skaters participating, performing 1 individual program each, plus a group of local amateurs in group numbers, partly with the pros.
And remember - this is a paid stream!
Amazing!!!!
:clap::clap::clap::clap:
