2026 Olympic Season | Music Suggestions

Old choices but IMO very skateable......Out of Africa and Legends of the Fall. Just please no more Carmen or Roxanne or any of the wretched tangoes that seem to be so popular.
Out of Africa.. haven't heard that for a while, but I agree, that is a perfect example of epic, soaring, soul-stirring music for sure. I actually can't recall that many skaters using it, to be honest ...

Someone mentioned Italian music... well... that is scary in some ways :)
Do we really need Bocelli and Einaudi to spam us for the entire season ? There are also some operas which shouldn't be used by young skaters... just saying.

But here are a few examples...

Pines of Rome by Respighi (there are a lot of good parts... this is just one excerpt)

Wasserklavier by Berio

Chi Mai by Ennio Morricone (I mean lot of his music has been used for figure skating and rightfully so but perhaps not this simple and nice tune on the piano)

I linked this as I cannot embed it (limit of two) which means I won't look for more for now... you got the point though... there are options outside of Experience and Io ci sarò (sorry Frangi)

Ughhh... Einaudi. Please, shoot me now. How many times if I heard his pieces in the last 2 years, or knock off versions. About a million too many...

I prefer radical and bold music choices, Olympic year or not. I wish we would see at least one Carmen, PotO, Turandot or, dare I say, Tosca, but one can only dream, I know.
You know, once overused War Horse that I rarely get tired of hearing is Nessun dorma. I know, way overdone, but when it works, it works better than just about any other piece of music for skating. It's like it was written with a combo spin into a dramatic pose ending in mind:-)

I'll take pre 2000s rock music, video game music, animemusic, movie music...anything but the usual warhorses, whiny balads, lyrical classic stuff, pseudo- intellectual voice overs, pseudo rock... hell, I'd take some Wagner even. Something with some oomph.
100%

Cinema Paradiso. Enio Morrocine is a genius, and I still think the music from The Mission is probably more brilliant from the perspective that it is so unique and has such a brilliant juxtaposition of musical styles with the European meets South American indigenous sound.

But I think Cinema Paradiso is one of the best films ever made, and the music (although a bit repetitive thematically), is perhaps the most beautiful piece of cinematic music I've ever heard. It's ability to reach into my heart and bring me to tears after just a few measures puts it in at a whole different level.

I'm not sure who I could see pulling it off best to be honest ... but I would love to see someone give it a try from this current crop of skaters.
Bradie Tennell skated to it a while back; a favorite 🤩

Would love Soundtrack to the film
The Luzhin Defence (Suite)

beautiful Desplat score.. an alternative to Queen’s Gambit

I think this podcast host has some bang-on, excellent suggestions for particular skaters! Plus, she offers convincing reasons why these would make good choices for respective skaters, and she plays excerpts of the music.

I love, love love, Quando, Quando, Quando for Donovan Carrillo. I think Amber Glenn has skated to Poker Face in exhibition previously, but it is perfect for Amber. Plus, I agree with the host that Amber might do better shedding slow, emo for upbeat, fun tunes and themes. Kiss From a Rose, by Seal, for Kao Miura, makes great sense! The explanation as to why is on target. 👌

Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair, by Nina Simone, for LaLa is quite intriguing. 🤔

Alysa Lui's refreshing personality and story def makes her a Genie in a Bottle, whether or not she would choose this Christina Aguilera hit song. In this case, the song is likely more suited for an exhibition performance. 😉

The podcast host misspelled Ilia Malinin's last name, but the MC Hammer, 2 Legit 2 Quit suggestion, is chef's kiss perfection! 💋 Again, even if for an exhibition.

Here's the MC Hammer video, which I actually never saw before. The James Brown sequence where JB tells Hammer to, 'Bring back the Glove,' is like Nathan Chen willing Ilia Malinin to 'Bring back Olympic gold.' 🥇

An oldie, but goodie:

This year, an indie game studio in France released their first game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It's a stunningly gorgeous game with amazing characters and a beautifully tragic storyline, and it's taken the gaming world by storm. In fact, it's been such a huge unexpected success that French president Emmanuel Macron personally congratulated the design team on their achievement.

The soundtrack for the game, composed by Lorien Testard, is chock-full of fantastic music in a variety of styles that I think could make an incredible program. The game and the soundtrack both have a lot of French character to them, so I'd love to see a French skater or team perform to it.

Here are a couple selected pieces I particularly like:

No warhorses and no tangos please! I’m hoping for more contemporary and more original pieces, but I’m not holding my breath.

In this rather dark and foreboding time, I would love to see more happy and spirit-lifting music, and I know no one outside my own country knows this work but I would happily put up a hand for Forty Reasons To Be Cheerful by Graeme Keohne

and Ian Dury's Reason to Be Cheerful too, for a gala piece :)

They played Karl Jenkins' Palladio on the radio as I was driving home.

We need more Karl Jenkins.

One of the bands I loved to listen to in my youth was the Golden Earring, a Dutch Rock band. Their Guitar player as well as composer and singer died last week, but this song is totally his: Weekend Love. I wish someone would skate to it, but I don't know if it's even skatable!

Italian classical rock. Live in 2007, Originally released in 1971.

I recall decades ago some Japanese record rebel had series of release "a kind of " Italian rock in 1970s.
(like New Trolls, Osanna, Goblin, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Premiata Forneria Marconi , Area, Il Balletto di Bronzo, Arti & Mestieri, Locanda delle Fate, Formula 3,,,)
