Worst programs of all time

I've seen worse. It might not be their best ever (they have plenty of better ones). Personally I don't like Domnina/Shabalins's OD in 2009/2010 (I'm not the only one), mostly because of the denigrating costuming, and Tarasova/Morosov's Candy Man is also a 'highlight' (for very different reasons). But then, all good skaters can have wtf programme once in a time. Even Savchenko/Solzkovy... I'm still your friend @4everchan I hope, but I rather liked watching this particular programme again.
Domina/Shabalin falls into "offensive" for me. Definitely one of the worst but in a way where I don't want to rewatch it, ever.

Agreed that plenty of good skaters have WTF programs now and then (I remember loving Bobrova/Soloviev's Anna Karenina, for a positive counterexample. And for an example of a team I otherwise liked that had a program I truly hated... Smart/Diaz's ballerina/mime program with the voice overs. Way too cutesy and twee for me, and voiceovers are almost always a no.)

And then there are the ones that are 'worst' for us personally even though so many others seem to love them. Not naming names, but an ID pair's lauded program a couple of years ago made me cringe and click off immediately because of one partner's excessive-even-for-ice-dance mugging.

Well, sometimes something turns your stomach so much that you can't appreciate the good parts. I hate one skater's toe jump technique so much, I find it hard to give credit for their good qualities.

OTOH I find few redeeming qualities in Plushenko's "Oops I Did It Again," and none at all in Domnina & Shabalin's "Aborigines."

Perhaps I'm biased because it was so recent, and because my heart sank so low while I watched it. And because it is from a skater I've semi-followed for years, waiting/hoping for a breakthrough performance...

Daniel Martynov's SP at Cranberry last week. It is so bad that I wonder if his team is trying to sabotage him. Even during an event with so few high quality performances, this one really stunk up the joint.

I like him too. I suspect he designs his own programs, music & costumes, and might not be open to suggestions. He’s a really good skater so it’s a pity but I somehow get the sense he only half wants to be there or just hates competing 🤔 Of course we don’t really know what’s going on there, but it’s something for sure

This would explain a lot. That looked like something a teenager might think is cool, but is actually just plain bad. This young man has so much talent, but if he doesn't want to do this sport, I hope he's in a personal position that he can exit without blowback.

I think if he had any kind costume instead of sweatpants and random tee and boot covers to hide the tape, it may have not looked that bad. Ot maybe not.

The skating was:

Skate around the rink on two feet, then jump. Skate around the rink on two feet again and then go for another jump. Fall down. Skate around the rink on two feet some more, go for another jump. Skate around on two feet again. Fall down. Frenetic music made it unbearable. At one point she looked as if she were about to throw up on the ice. It was the worst thing on ice I have ever seen. And made a mockery of the sport. What made it the worst program was, there was no program.

2021 is the only hint.
Any more hints? I think we're all stumped but certainly curious!

Or gains patience, maturity and good common sense before all is lost 😞

His opening pose alone made me go "wait, what is he-is he going to talk to the judges about something or... oh no. No, no no." And then laugh.

I feel like we are talking about a russian skater?

Daniel has such long stretched lines and great power. He has the potential to be a Boitano or Cousins type skater. I too lament his program choices this year - it’s sad to see talent sabotaging itself.

Yes! I've thought this for a couple of years. Power and line. I'm not sure why the team is going in a direction that distracts from his excellent qualities.

And, perhaps I'm being too pessimistic. Success is rarely achieved in a straight line of progress. I'm never going to enjoy these programs, I don't think, even if they were technically perfect. But perhaps in the long run, this is part of a longer term trajectory. A "live and learn" type of situation.

Sometimes I still remember this Dan and Hao gala program and think "what the heck?"
