2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

Just watched the Sr Men's Medal Ceremony from Cranberry and to me Gogo just seemed disinterested in the whole thing. To me he also seemed off in the Kiss and Cry after his FS. Grant it his score was way too low but still he could have smiled a bit, after all it was a great skate for him. Or is this just his way... doesn't show much emotion?
I think he doesn't show much emotion. I'm someone who doesn't either, I think I'm smiling but look 😐 instead. He may be the same.

He did look happy in the second picture here taking goofy photos with the other medalists.

Gogo : in the KnC he was not happy with the score and I cannot blame him. Barely getting 7s for that program is a choice.

Afterward, I thought he was fine.

Nothing much from what I can tell. They've been training in Montreal and are now representing Quebec instead of Ontario, with Julie Marcotte listed as their coach on their Skate Canada page
Sorry. I understand that. Just that they pulled out of Quebec last week and aren’t scheduled for another competition (yet) before the GP. Hoping not injured. They usually compete in August.

I think SG PCS will improve with more fluidity. He is a good skater but there is still too much stiffness. He needs to relax and buy into the program and frankly Im not even buying into it. I think PCS scores in low 70s isnt quite a shock right now to be honest. Most I would of given him would of been 75. Anthony I would of had closer to 80 TBH

well, the ice will be the same for everyone... just happy she's now officially skating internationally so there are no unresolved issues with releases nor Skate Canada
Yup, but i would love for her to also have a strong debut, so she can have a respectable score from the start. This sport sometimes makes it difficult to change judges' opinions even when changes are evident as an athlete competes in different events/seasons. Fortunately, less so in juniors.

I think if there is an issue, it may be due to visas not being handed out to Russian passport holders. If she doesn't have a Canadian passport then she needs a visa, and if her only passport is a Russian one...well...it gets complicated cause Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Norway, Czechia, Poland and a few other countries have a visa ban in place since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. EU also has some restrictions in place.

yes... that's why she's going to Bangkok :)

Her being assigned to Bangkok was actually what made me look into the visa situation, cause from a purely merit perspective, I would have given her an earlier assignment. She currently has the best tech out of all the age-eligible junior girls, after all. Abu Dhabi shouldn't be an issue, if she skates well enough in Bangkok and is deemed worthy of a 2nd JGP

Based on Skate Canada's criteria, Uliana won her spot at the GP of Skate Canada.
She is the only one to have reached the benchmark of 166 points twice this season with her win in BC and in Quebec.
I hope they give her the TBD spot. I like Gabby and Kaiya but they failed with the 166 points benchmark.

I don't disagree that she's the highest scorer. However, Gabby and Kaiya haven't competed in a long time and are just starting back. I believe that Gabby can get those scores considering she is still adjusting. She's playing with her layout too... Yesterday, she didn't start with the usual 3t-3t but with a 3lz. I wonder where she wants to put her combos because she only included one... and before the rule changed, Gabby was already using a +2a sequence... Just doing that would have secured her that score.

I am on Gabby's team for that TBD for a bunch of reasons so I would wait to see how all 3 are doing at the high performance camp. Uliana is not the most consistent skater either and I feel she needs still to improve on the PCS side of things.

For instance, in the short, the singer is pretty much screaming to be heard, looked at, listened to... and she doesn't convey any emotion nor any connection with the music/audience. I don't think she is ready for a Grand Prix based on that.

So, we have a few skaters here. None of them is really stable technically but sure, Uliana has an edge over the others... but when it comes to the second mark, she's by far, the weakest and that seems like it would be exacerbated at a Grand prix level with international skaters who rank in the top 10 at worlds...

The Skate Canada GP is later this year. There are a couple of months still before they need to decide who gets the host spot. At the moment, Uliana is the only one with two competitions >166, but there is still time for the other two to gain the scores needed. I don't think we can make any assumptions yet about who will get the spot.

Edit: what I was really trying to say here is that, based on current form, Uliana should get the spot. However, I am not certain she will. My hunch is that they would probably prefer Gabby to get the spot if they can find a way of her doing so. Gabby is a higher profile name who will sell tickets and therefore bring in more money for Skate Canada. Casual viewers would also love the 'returning against the odds' backdrop. Fewer people will have heard of Uliana.

Well, as someone actually going to skate canada, I would rather see Shiryaeva than Daleman, since Daleman already tried come-backing and it didn't turn out well. She is almost 28 now, so i would rather see someone who could gain into the next few years, rather than someone whose best results are behind us. Last time in Missasuaga both she and Schizas looked so promising after SP, then it was a total melt down in FS. No, thank you, for a repeat of that. And, i would vastly prefer Samodelkina to both of them, since i never seen her live and she is doing great so far this season.

@lariko i hope you enjoy. I considered going since I have friends there and it is just a weekend : my schedule is crazy this fall.

But, yeah.. not going. Skate Canada has other options. High performance camp will be the decider. The reality is that I don't think the TBA woman will do that well at SCI, no matter who it is- Just from what we have seen so far this summer. Uliana's first event was a disaster. Yes, she's done better but she hasn't managed to skate a clean competition either. Not like anyone else has :) but I find that her summer results are a tad overhyped. She's not miles ahead from anyone else of the top contenders for that spot.

Victoria in the juniors, is way ahead of anyone else who is age eligible and she should get two spots.

Since we are just couch commentating, if I get two JGPS for Victoria, I couldn't care less about the rest. I am not invested that much in her skating but she's the one who came out of the gates ready to play and has shown that.

Sara-Maude is also doing well I would say but then, she's already at SCI :)

If Barakhtina is ahead of them, then things are indeed not great. Heh, honestly, wish Zhilina could afford Canada not Aze. Or someone like Morozova or Dzepka or Pleskacheva....

That's a pretty rare opinion though is it not? Gabby Daleman has a ton of name recognition that they might bank on for ticket sales. I mean according to twitter, tumblr, and podcasts people seem to want Gabby over Maddie in the olympics even though shes been mostly gone the whole quad. Most skating fans have no idea who Uliana even is and if they do remember her its from her not great performance at nationals. Also no need to age shame Gabby, if she is till beating skaters younger than her, no reason she shouldn't get the spot. Uliana can excel for the next quad but I do think it makes sense for Skate Canada to go with any of the three Canadians between Gabby, Kaiya, or Uliana for the spot.

Also I saw Samodelkina in person at Worlds and thought she was probably one of the most underwhelming. I have faith in her this season to perform better but I didn't think she stood out at all.

I can only vouch for my opinion and not gonna hide it because someone else saw something on tweeter, lol. I prefer to see as many skaters as possible live, so I saw them three already, but never Samodelkina, so I would rather see Samodelkina, then whoever outscores others without extravagant handouts on PCSs. If Daleman can hit higher score without them overscoring her like crazy, then deliver, fine. But I doubt it, tbh. I also know that Shiryaeva ain't gonna be overscored, so so far she's earned her benchmark fair and square. Plus, people saying Daleman over Schizas are ingrates, because the only time Schizas pulled together two clean skates was in team Oly, going all out for Canada, showing great team spirit. And if any of these other people who want to see someone have tickets, then they can speak up who they want to see. I do have a ticket. My mom does. We gonna drive 8 hrs to Saskatoon through the prairies. Our voices count. We'd rather see skaters scoring 200s than 170.

This is the thing for me. It shouldn't be chosen based on name recognition for potential ticket sales. People may want Gabby to get the spot for SCI or the Olympics, but she doesn't have the results for that yet in my opinion based on her free programs so far. Whether she will get them or not remains to be seen.
