2025 Robin Cousins Cup | Aug 21-22

First kids of the day, going for a medal.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST ZARAH AND ALEX!!! :cheer:

Strange starting position. And a creaking door.

It's a spooky programme!!! "The Addams Family", to be precise.

They are obviously portraying Morticia and Gomez. Zarah is wearing a beautiful black dress. It is no-where near as long as Morticia's dress, but that would be too difficult to skate in. Alexis wearing a suit, without the jacket.

Lovely throw to start off with.

Out of sync on their jumps.

Lift beautiful.

Beautiful throw.

That set of jumps was much better than the first.

All in all, a great skate!

It's a pity there aren't microphones in the results area. I would love to know what Zoe and Alex are discussing.

Well, they have definitely assured themselves of a medal. But, what colour will it be? With how close the Top 3 were after the SP, it could be any colour!

For now, they go into the lead.

OK. At the end of the Judges being introduced, the announcer asked my kid Alex Lapsky to come out onto the ice and close the gate.

And such a round of applause he got. And boys but he milked it!

Ah, Robin Cousins is in attendence today. Bet you he'll be giving out the medals.

The question is how many of my kids will be getting medals? And what colour will they be?

Not long until we find out for my Pairs kids. They are on the ice now doing their Warm-Up.

Robin Cousins was there yesterday, too. (Michal Brezina was also there - he coaches Tao Macrae)

I wish that version of the song that Rebecca RITCHIE / Kyle McLEOD (GBR) are skating to would join Jack in hitting the road. I got fed up with it long ago.

Rebecca is wearing a beautiful black top and skirt. Kyle is wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and black trousers.

They were really good. I really enjoyed that (in spite of the music!)

I am pretty sure that they are going to go ahead of my kids. But, will they also finish up ahead of the Americans that are about to skate?

What?! They go into 3rd overall?!

I was not expecting that!

CaroLiza_fan

Milada KOVÁŘ / Jared McPIKE (USA). They are wearing beautiful black costumes with royal blue highlights.

"Crocodile Rock" by Elton John!!!

I've never seen anybody skating to that song before. But, it is really working!

Oh, it's changed to a slow version of "I'm Still Standing". And then "Rocketman".

They were good. But, I preferred the upbeat part of the programme at the start.

Well, my calls haven't worked so far, but I think they have won.

No, I'm wrong. They are second overall.

MY KIDS HAVE WON!!! :jaw:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

:cheer: WELL DONE ZARAH AND ALEX!!! :cheer:

Ah. Thank you for that info. The stream didn't come on air yesterday until the start of the Warm-Up, so I didn't hear any announcements. So, I didn't know for sure if he was there or not (I suspected he would be).

:thank:

Enjoying the pair skaters before returning to Riga. Thank you @CaroLiza_fan for reminding me in time to watch. :thank:

You're welcome! :thank:

yes, thanks for the updates @CaroLiza_fan - very useful!

And you are welcome too! :thank:

Are you heading to the arena today?

Yes, I'll be there for the senior men and the medal cermonies!

Am I the only one getting fed up with these "epic" versions of songs? "Eleanor Rigby" in it's original form is a lovely song. It didn't need this tampering with.

Solomon wearing all black - trousers, t-shirt and goves.

Unfortunately, he made quite a few mistakes. A fall, and some pops (including on multiple parts of a combination jump).

I have a feeling he is going to drop off the podium.

He's taking it in good spirits! (Can you blame him? He's got a cute girl sitting next to him!)

He goes into 2nd position. And given the gap to the two skaters ahead of him, that means he will indeed finish in last position.

I liked Denis KROUGLOV (BEL)'s music.

Not fussed on his costume. Cream top and brown trousers.

That was a really good skate.

He had a massive advantage over the two saters that have already skated. And I can only see him extending it considerably.

He does. New leader.

I always find it surreal posting about Lloyd THOMSON (GBR). Because I went to school with a Lloyd Thompson.

This Lloyd is wearing a purple top and black trousers. I could have sworn that he was skating to Andrea Boccelli, but it is actually Mark Vincent.

I really enjoyed that.

This is going to be close.

He goes into 2nd position overall.

Not as close as I thought - 23 points behind.

Right, time to make sandwiches before the girls come on.

We're back!

"C'est La Vie" by B*Witched!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

And then "Fairytale" by Alexander Rybak.

Hope you enjoy it!

Tell me something I was wondering. Are cameras allowed? I know some skating events specifically say that they aren't, but when I was investigating going to this event, I couldn't find any mention of whether they were or not.

If they are, could you take a photo of the Senior Ladies podium for me? Unless something really dramatic happens, my baby girl is going to be standing on it in her first Senior level competition.

Incidentally, the new camera lens I mentioned arrived yesterday during the Senior Men's SP. And I am delighted with it.

You see, when I got my Nikon DSLR camera years ago, the lens that came with it barely zoomed in at all. So, we ended up having to spend a lot of money on a 2nd hand 18-200mm lens off a well known auction site. And when I got it, I was disappointed to find that it didn't zoom in as far as my trusty old Olympus bridge camera. So, when that lens broke last week, we had to spend another lot of money to replace it. But this time, I went for a 2nd hand 18-300mm lens off the same well known auction site. And when it arrived yesterday, I was happy to find that it zooms to the same extent as the bridge camera.

I would love to use it at a skating competition some time (although not during the programmes, as I wouldn't want to miss anything).

What a lovely programme from Layla REAY (GBR) to start off the competition.

She is wearing a pale blue and purple dress.

Not perfect. But nevertheless enjoyable.

And I see we now have a wee picture-in-picture box showing the results area while we watch the replays.

A couple of seconds after Mia CRAIG (GBR) started, I thought it was the wrong music, because she seemed to stop in her tracks. But, it was part of the choreography, because she started going again, and then stopped again for a moment, before carrying on!

That was beautiful. The music was beautiful. The dress was beautiful. And the skating was beautiful.

I really liked that programme.

She had a good advantage over Layla, so she is definitely going to be the new leader. But, the next two skaters are within catching distance, so she may climb.

Yep, new leader.
