I think we will have a withdrawal in ice dance. Paolino/Tuba won the Italian competition for the Qualifier spot, so they will go to Beijing and maybe not to Oberstdorf.

Wow, that's incredibly surprising. P/T are not a bad team at all, but their scores were well below the other teams' scores (including Tali/Lafornara) last season.

I've seen debates on X if the Italian fed will really send them now. But if not, what was the point if this competition...

They do need another challenger though. Not sure how important it is for them, but they might drop out of the top 4 in WS by the Olympics, missing the final warm-up group.

unfortunately, the fed hasn't played that game very well in the past... we will see if they do that this year.... it's especially crucial for Piper and Paul

It is best that they take the time they need now. The second half of the season is more important. If they push things now, when one of them isn't fit to do so, that could take them out for a lot longer (and potentially out of the Olympics). It wouldn't honestly be the end of the world if they missed the grand prix, if that is what is needed for them to be fit later.

Two skaters last year skipped US nationals and still got selected for major championships. I would expect USFS to do the same for Ellie and Danny if they are not fit for nationals and pass the relevant medical screening afterwards. Ellie and Danny are their best chance for a high placement at the Olympics, and USFS know that.
 
Sad but not really surprised, I thought it would happen after how they did at John Nicks. They still have to sub pairs, wonder who will be assigned next...

I wonder if they might wait and see how Plazas/Fernandez do this weekend, and even still, I'm sure they'll get enough assignments to get a Nationals bye.
 
People who are going to Nebelhorn, there's just one all event ticket price for all ages (sans children and disabled people), correct? I keep confusing this with Finlandia where there are some senior discounts.
